ABBUC Nationals Cup 2004

At the Atari Day Netherlands, we organized the first ABBUC Nationals Cup. The tournament is really easy: We play common multi-player games with teams from as many countries as possible.

The qualification
At the last WGL meeting, we had a qualification round for the German national team. We decided to play MultiJoy8 Cervi, because that's a game where eight players can play at the same time, so we expected less organizing problems with the contest. At the meeting were four players, and Bunsen and I were the winners.

Bunsen was so happy, that he created a T-shirt and two caps for the competition, so that everybody would know that he represents the German Cervi national team.

The training
We travelled together with the Czech team to the Atari Day, and met the day before at TWW's flat in Breda. There Ellen from Belgium also appeared, so all teams were on site, and we played a training match. After the normal problems with the joysticks, we had a lot of fun, and the amateurs in the round found out, that it is important to have your own joystick with you at all times.

The teams
At the party, we tried to find another Belgian team member, but there was nobody. So we asked Jar Jar to join the Belgian team as a guest and she agreed.

The German team: Mad Butscher (Foundation Two) and Bunsen (WGL).

The rules
We play Cervi for three rounds. The scores are accumulated and the winning team is the team with the most points. Easy, isn't it?

The competition
As a judge we got TWH (Foundation Two). He had to calculate the scores, and checked that every joystick works. Then the battle begun.

The first round ended with a suprising second place for Jar Jar, who did not train the day before. The German team had a good start and led the table.

The second round was a hard fight, but the German team increased the distance to the Dutch team. In the last round, TWW was able to decrease this distance, but in the end it was a big victory for the German team.

Final result

  1. Germany 303 points
  2. Netherlands 295 points
  3. Belgium 232 points
  4. Czech Republic 205 points

It was great fun for all, and a lot of teams wanted to get revenge at the next meeting, so watch out for the next ABBUC Nationals cup.
