I've got the cup, seen the animation, but can't find a way out. There's a door at the bottom of the ladder, on the right as you leave the hall, that isn't open. There's no keyhole, and I can't find a button anywhere. Spoilers welcome,. as my guys are out of food and dying. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 26 Fri Dec 27, 1991 JLHOFFMAN [John Hoffman] at 03:01 EST I am stuck on the first quest for the shield. I have just completed the sewers and and stuck in the prison. I have the iron key but can't find any keyholes to open the gates to the prisoners. Help please. I have searched for false walls, buttons, cast spells... Also does anyone have a compiled list of spell descriptions. Most of the cleric spells from the holy wand that you get on the first quest don't seem to have any effects that I can notice other than visual flashes and distortions. REM is the only one I know. Thanks, John - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 28 Sat Dec 28, 1991 D.LEMAY2 [Darwin] at 21:05 EST If you haven't already found it, look for a false wall along the section with the two gratings. just hit the wall sections with swords or spells, until one section of wall doesn't respond. The priest spells have to be cast from the back row. There's restore, which gives the player in the front row life back, also you can increase stamina, cure poisoning, do first aid, and in general keep your fighters in good shape. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 30 Sun Dec 29, 1991 R.SENSKE [Tradewind] at 04:44 EST I'm stuck. I've defeated the tree monsters that guarded the quests (although it took forever) then entered the first quest and got the first iron key. I used that to unlock the door on the outside that contained the 4 trolls. I defeated the trolls and got tWhe shovel and dug the whole place up and found a lot of apples. Now, that I've used the first iron key on that particular door, I can't find another key to open up the second door inside the fist dungeon (I used the second key to open the fist door inside the dungeon). Am I missing a third key somewhere? Should I have just left that door with the trolls and the shovel alone until later? And last, and maybe least, what is that big hole in the sky, and how do you get up there? HELP! - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 32 Mon Dec 30, 1991 R.SENSKE [Tradewind] at 05:21 EST Okay. I know what that hole in the sky is for now that I completed quest 1. What I still want to know is where you get that extra iron key to open up that door on the outside. Anyone know? Quest 2 starts tomorrow. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 34 Wed Jan 01, 1992 G.ABBOTT1 at 19:12 EST Help!!! I'm stuck in the third quest (The sword. I'm on the second level (the place where there are skeletal remains imbedded in the walls). I've been through the portal maze (confusing as hell) and opened all door that I could find. I've fought the small blue dragons in the large room with the fireball launcher and spinners (The magic mouth at the door says "Hunt for gold"). I've opened all areas that I can find and fought the stationary chap in the alcove, and received a gold coin. How do I use the coin in a useful way. I've tried throwing it in the well, where it disappears, but nothing happens. There is no place where I can find any secret doors that I haven't been. I'm now trapped in the dungeon, and I don't know how to get out or go deeper. I'm stumped. - G.ABBOTT1. Well, ( pardon the pun ), you need to think about the well hint some more, then think about a wand that seems useless on your characters. Need a more specific hint? - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 40 Thu Jan 09, 1992 G.ABBOTT1 [Gregg Abbott] at 03:41 EST I've solved the well problem. I'm now in the castle of Lord Fear in quest four. I've killed two floating knights and got a key which opened a door to a room where wraiths are regenerated. I have a problem there. there are many doors, a keyhole, but now key. Where is the key. I'm in a place where I can't return to the rest of the dungeon or the outdoors (a one-way silent teleport saw to that. I can't find anything in there (such as buttons switches or secret doors). I'm quite stuck! - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 41 Sat Jan 11, 1992 D.LEMAY2 [Darwin] at 03:01 EST Gregg. In the ghost room, there's a hidden switch on the pillar where the keyhole is. This opens a section with a pressure plate. There's a button in here too. - well. Where I'm stuck is at the door in the dungeon area with the two swords. There is a keyhole but I don't seem to have the required key. Does anyone know what key I should use and where it is located. I have pushed a total of four buttons three which opened obvious areas and one just outside the dungeon that made a sound but didn't open any areas. I have also found one false wall. Help please! - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 45 Mon Jan 13, 1992 J.HOLLINGSW4 at 00:34 EST Real basic direction needed. At the start there are two carts. One before the forest shortcut-and one in the forest. ARE THERE ANY WEAPONS TO BE FOUND in those two areas. I have been stuck trying to kill a tree that stands before what looks like an open door, but I can't seem to off him. Also, Can I get through the ceiling hole??? Just clicking on go up does not seem to work. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 46 Tue Jan 14, 1992 G.ABBOTT1 [Gregg Abbott] at 03:32 EST I'm having a problem with one of the Staff mini-quests. I'm in the one with the rock block walls with the rotating doors. I've search every- where, but I'm short of keys. One area I opened has I giant behind a locked gate, a wall on rollers that won't move, and a switch that makes a wall form in front of the roller-wall for three presses, and then disappears again. I tried using the key I used to enter this area on another door, but all I get is a key that seems to not open anything. What do I do? Someone asked if there are weapons to be found in the first outdoor areas, well yes, there are weapons. There are a set of balls (like the ones you threw in Captive, and at least two pocket knives. Wands are found at the beginning of of the first quest, and higher level ones are found in quest three. There may be higher level ones that I haven't gotten to, yet. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 47 Tue Jan 14, 1992 FEDII.2 at 17:16 EST Don't worry about the hole in the sky for now - you'll find out what it is for later. You don't need to kill the trees to progress. Go back to where you entered that part of ^the forest, there was a switch on the wall that you pulled to open up the hedge. Just there (or in one of the adjacent spaces) there's a twig on the ground - it's real difficult to see, so just fumble around till you find it. Throw the twig at the tree that says "I have lost my child" and it will vanish, giving you access to the first quest. WHen you explore this forest area, look very carefully for objects, they are extremely difficult to see in the grass. There's a key somewhere here that you will need later. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 48 Tue Jan 14, 1992 JLHOFFMAN [John Hoffman] at 22:58 EST I don't remember if there are any important items on the other side of the cart. You can find at least one pocket knife somewhere and the other side of the cart in the forest provides an additional goblin to 'off'. The trees are hard to kill but they also don't do much damage. They also talk if you click at the bottom of the image displayed in the view. I think that one of the trees wants something but I don't know as I killed them all. This is great way to get new characters some much needed experience and hit points. I also cast spells at the trees and that helped my experience. The tree never did open though... :-) You can't go up the opening in the middle of the forest. It's purpose will be revealed later in the game... - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 49 Fri Jan 17, 1992 D.CRANO [Big D] at 19:06 EST Can you or any one else give me a helping hand?? I have been stuck for a few days in the same basic areas... I am on quest 4, I have been through all the training rooms several times.. I have stayed alive eating spider legs from the spiders.. I have been down to the Conveyor of Life, and up to the Target practice, can not seem to do much with either the conveyor or target practice... My problem is the door with what appears to be two knights behind it.. It is the first locked door I have found in quest 4.. It is just before you go up the ladder to the target practice area... Where is the key, or is there something to the target practice beside just snakes.. Or what the heck is the secret or the conveyor of life.. Any hints help or really anything would help... I have really enjoyed the game so far but after 3 or 4 days of being hung up in quest 4, I am starting to get frustrated. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 50 Sat Jan 18, 1992 R.EIDAL at 00:25 EST You'll come across the key you need, but not quite yet. You'll need the proper tool to shut off the conveyor of life. Come across any lately? In the target practice section, if your aim is true it'll open up a section of wall so you can get off the cart at the other end. Say, while I'm at it, has anyone figured out how to get across the three pits in that big room farther on in level four? I'm stuck! - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 51 Sat Jan 18, 1992 G.ABBOTT1 [Gregg Abbott] at 01:28 EST There are many pits, I I don't remember what to do there. Try throwing things over the pits, or look for a button or pad. I'm still stuck in the area where you find gold coins the throw through the doors. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 52 Sat Jan 18, 1992 J.HOLLINGSW4 at 02:50 EST I only found one wand at the start of quest #1. Is there another?? My priest is not too effective without one. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 54 Sat Jan 18, 1992 FEDII.2 at 11:49 EST Richard, to deal with the three pits you use exactly the same method as you used on the two pits in the previous room - the only difference is that "the solution is not in plain view"! If that doesn't help enough, mail me. :) I'm completely stuck, and I hope someone has solved this bit. I've entered a room and the wall has closed behind me. The room had two knights in it, which I killed, and one of them dropped a twig. There's loads of crosses on the floor, which don;'t seem to do anything (at least they don't make any noise when I tread on them), four empty cupboards on the walls, and a false wall that leads to a dead-end with another useless cross in it. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 56 Sat Jan 18, 1992 G.ABBOTT1 [Gregg Abbott] at 17:15 EST The trig activates one of the pressure plates (I forgot which one it worked on since I've been stuck on a much later puzzle for a week). Try it on all pressure plates you find. The right one will click, and the twig will vanish. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 58 Sat Jan 18, 1992 JLHOFFMAN [John Hoffman] at 22:52 EST You should have found three wands at the beginning of quest number 1. A wand of magic, wand of healing and a wand of something for the genie in all of us. As I remember they were in the very beginning. I think there were some cabinets on the wall that contained the items you need. You will need to have these Items to continue in the game, particularly the wand of healing. There are also several wands in the 3rd quest for the sword. As yet I'm not sure what they do. Several of them don't even show any options. I guess I'm not skilled enough in the appropriate profession. By the way, It seems that most people are doing the quest of the cup before the quest of the sword. I am doing the sword before the cup because that is what the dialog in the book indicated that you should do. Is the cup easier than the sword?? - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 59 Sun Jan 19, 1992 W.SUDDERTH2 at 03:34 EST You people have saved me from a monster headache; I've been stuck on the 2nd floor of quest #3, with the well. I didn't want to have to pay just to get hints for a game, but finally broke down and came here. Good idea: the solution was posted by three people, so now I can get on with the game. One little thing: if you throw the "funny stick" at the jester he will vanish immediately, leaving the coin, and you won't have to fight him. Then again, you might want to fight him, and keep the funny stick too. To return the favor, for the solution, I'll pass on what little hints & info I've obtained so far: The whole in the ceiling of the forest is the exit from the first quest. To exit from the 2nd quest, in the area of the cup guardians, you have to find one *last* button, that opens up an area with a *dragon* in it. this area is behind the illusion wall, near the spot with the two switches. From my maps (which are a little messy) I think that button is near the cross pad (and if I remember right look like a purple diamond in the upper right corner) This may be obvious to some: kill the rabbits, to stock up on rabbit pies. In between the quests, the forest will fill up with them. Also dump all the useless stuff between quests, so you have room for more pies. I found two "hidden" objects on the second floor of quest three (when I got stuck, i searched it from top to bottom). Both objects are f on the route leading up to the big room (with the bouncing fireballs, and all the dragons). The first is another chest, which I found when i jumped down a trapdoor. It's the trapdoor with the cross pad right in front of it (the one where you have to weight the pad down to keep the trapdoor closed). some of you veteran adventurers may have seen that little trick a mile away, and didn't get dumped down the trapdoor. The second object is a second "fencer" sword. Go all the way down the corridor with all the cross pads that trigger the fireballs (the corridor that has the hint" remember to hide" right at the beginning), to the door that lead into the big room. Immediately across from the door (behind you when you are facing the door) is an illusion wall. it leads to an "L" shaped room, with the sword in it. If you put the mouse *ON* the monster in the screen, and a message pops up in the bottom, it means the monster is carrying an object. most of you probably already know this. If anybody is stuck in the forest, about quest three, the room with the trolls & shovel, and quest one: There's an iron key, inside a maze that fills the lower, left corner of the forest (assuming the the entrance to the forest is in the middle of the top, and the troll/shovel room is in the lower, right corner). *that* key is meant to be used for the troll & shovel room. The iron key you find in quest one is meant to be The cleric staff commands are "Rem, fitness, restore, aid, cure (d*mn, can't remember what sixth one is), and the last is "see". the see option is a counter for one of the monsters that can throw an object which blinds you (it's the "earth" elemental in the big room on quest #3, most of you probably were never hit by it's projectile, if you were fast enough). Well, that seems to be about all the stuff I can remember offhand. I probably won't be back to this area, unless I run into another brick wall like I did with the well. Cheerio! - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 60 Sun Jan 19, 1992 G.ABBOTT1 [Gregg Abbott] at 04:12 EST I finally solved the "Dizzy Rooms" puzzles. Boy was that tough. Don't ask me hints for the final solution of this Knightmarish puzzle, since I finally solved it by throwing the two switches near the locked gate at random. This game is MUCH tougher then Dungeon Master or chaos. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 61 Sun Jan 19, 1992 G.ABBOTT1 [Gregg Abbott] at 04:16 EST Oops, I almost forgot to ask. How does the DESTONE potion spell work. After fighting medusa, I make a DESTONE potion, but my "statuesque" characters refuse to drink it (because they're rock and can't move. How do you DESTONE a character, other then reloading your game if a character's stone status is in the red (permanent without spells)? - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 66 Sun Jan 19, 1992 R.EIDAL vat 22:56 EST The ramdisk to use in order to play Knightmare on a Mega4ST is Maxidisk. I have opened the gate when the long hall goes to the left at the end.. I used a key for that one.. I also have two other keys now, but can not seem to open the gate at the end of the hall when it goes straight.. The one with the snake behind it.. Is there any rhyme or reason behind the moving walls and the four switches, and do I need to find a lock or a button or what to open the far gate at the end of the hall??? Can anyone tell me what that button does. I think I've gone everywhere and I can't find anything changed. I've been making detailed maps and it looks like I've missed three large areas, I thought this button would get me into them but it doesn't appear to. I would really like to know what it does before I lock myself in the castle. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 71 Mon Jan 20, 1992 JLHOFFMAN [John Hoffman] at 21:59 EST Examine all the walls around the sewers for buttons... One of these will open up an area with another boat and the prison can be generally found in this new area. You will also need to search this are for buttons to finally get into the prison. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 72 Tue Jan 21, 1992 G.ABBOTT1 [Gregg Abbott] at 03:39 EST The button near the spring in quest four is used to open the dungeon to the wilderness (so you can get some fresh rabbit pies). The dizzy rooms is a puzzle to completely fry every neuron in your brain. The doors turn clockwise when the switches are flipped. Think of the rooms as four turning blocks with floating doorways. The doors will switch blocks if the adjacent block is turned. Here is a rundown on switch/block relationships. Switches are numbered from nearest to ladder, to furthest away. Blcoks are named by there relationship to if as you face them using the code L=left, R=right, N=near, and F=far. The block that may open a door near the left wall will be referred to as block LN for left-near. The block behind it is block LF or left-far. Four doorways float freely within the blocks, and you have to line them up in the right ways. A block with a doorway on opposite sides will form a straight passage. A doorway on two sides sharing the same point or vertex will form an bend or L-shaped piece. Here is the switch key #1 operates RF #2 " " RN #3 " " LF #4 " " LN Remember that the blocks always turn clockwise. Doors will always "Stick" to the block operated (although only one doorway will stick to a side at a time, but a block may have all four doors on it. After you open the area up (with all the keys) by skillful use of the switches, You will have two different keys. Use the iron key on the door in the room with the pits. There is another switch puzzle there. I don't know how that one works, but I solved it by operating switches at random (there were only two switches). You will get a final key there that you use to open a gate, fight a giant, and gain another coin. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 73 Tue Jan 21, 1992 G.ABBOTT1 [Gr5egg Abbott] at 03:43 EST I'm now stuck in the square maze titled (Hunto for a switch). It's very close to where the button is - just go back out past the keyhole that let you into this passage and I think if you turn right and just go up a little ways you'll find the portal on your left. I'm stuck in the section that says it's the route to the castle of fear. I've made it into the section with the four rooms connected by walkways, two of the rooms have ladders going down into other rooms. One of these rooms has no doors, and the other has two doors, neither of which I can open. Upstairs, on one of the walkways, is an iron grill with a keyhole next to it. I have a bronze key, but it doesn't open this grill and I cannot find another keyhole anywhere. I have a hunch the next thing I must do is get through at least one of the doors in the room below, but I'm stumped as to how to open them. I've scoured the whole castle for keyholes, keys, and secret buttons and haven't found any more than I already did. Can anyone help? Thanks for all the answers where I was stuck back in the room with the three pits. Of course! You have to open the door with the spell before throwing something on the pressure plate! - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 76 Wed Jan 22, 1992 FEDII.2 [Fi of H-by-A] at 18:11 EST Richard, if I remember rightly there's a button in the room with the two locked doors, to the left of one of the doors. Have I missed something? - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 84 Sat Jan 25, 1992 FEDII.2 [Fi of H-by-A] at 08:20 EST I'm completely stuck here, hope someone can help me out! I'm at the bit in the 4th Quest where there are rooms and doors that switch around when you press buttons. Pressing the buttons at random revealed another set of buttons, and I found a key near there. More random pressing revealed a door, I used the key to open it and in there was another key. More pressing, another door, used this key and now I'm in a room with lots of pits. I killed the nasties (some knights and a medusa) and there's one switch on the wall, but pushing it seems to have no effect! What does this switch do, and what do I do next? I did discover that it's not a good idea to jump down the pits. There's loads of extremely dangerous monsters down there that turned me into hamburger before I could say "run away!" - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 85 Sat Jan 25, 1992 D.CRANO [Big D] at 16:19 EST Well jumping down the pit, even though they want to turn you into hamburger, is the only way to go.. They have a key waiting for you down there. About the best thing I can tell you is to find the right pit/s to jump down... Alittle recon work down there will help you decide which pit to jump down. That is after you find the way back out of there... Have fun, and just think how strong your guys will be after you are done hahaha. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 86 Sat Jan 25, 1992 FEDII.2 [Fi of H-by-A] at 17:06 EST Humph. I might have guessed. Need the help real bad! - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 88 Sun Jan 26, 1992 L.DUMAS [Leland ] at 20:51 EST Now I'm stuck on the Quest for the Sword (no. 3). I'm on the second floor and I got the Gem key which opened a door that gave me another key to open the door in the area where I first came to this floor. Problem is, I can't find any more keys and the rest of the doors seem to need them. There is a room just before the "Bread Crumb" area that I opened and inside is another door that doesn't seem to have a keyhole. I tried the open spell and it didn't work. I've bounced off all the walls and gone through what I have open on this level with a "Glow" spell but I can't find anything. Can someone tell me what I'm missing? I would prefer that it be as specific as possible. I'll post this in CAT 9 and 21, but if you're specific please respond in CAT 21 or by E-Mail. Thanks...You may be able to save me a psychiatrists bill! - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 89 Sun Jan 26, 1992 JLHOFFMAN [John Hoffman] at 23:08 EST I'm not positive but I think you may be missing the buttons. There are buttons on this level but they don't look like buttons. There is also a key in the bread crumb area. I think there might be one in the room hidden in the bread crumb maze. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 90 Mon Jan 27, 1992 R.EIDAL at 00:52 EST I got through that area with the door and push wall, but can't tell you exactly how I did it. Maybe I can help a little, though. There's one lever on the same wall as the door shows up on, I'll call that lever one. As you face lever one, the other lever is on your right, that'll be lever two. What I did was work various combinations of the levers. I threw lever one once, then lever two once, then back to lever one to open up the door. Then I went and tried to move the block. If it didn't move I went back and moved lever one again, then lever two once, then lever one until the door reappeared. Then I again tried to move the block. When those didn't work I began moving lever one twice, lever two once, then lever one to open up the door again. I can't tell you which combination finally worked because I don't remember. Eventually you'll be able to move the block one space. Then you must go through the lever business again to move the block once more, but not straight back as you pass through the door. You must flip the levers until the movable block shows up on the far right hand wall as you enter through the door. Then you move the block one space to open up an area with a key. Then you can kill the giant troll and move on. I hope that helps at least a little. Lever one moves the section with the door on it, and lever two moves a section somewhere back behind the section with the door. That second section has a couple of empty spaces that you must line up with the movable block. If you go at is systematically you'll get there. Now, if anyone has read this far, I'm stuck in another part, the area that says I'll die of old age. I've gotten through all the doors and passages to the large room with the skeletons. I've found the hallway with the secret button that rotates it ninety degrees, and I have the gold key. Where do I go from here? I took the gold key back out to that door with the wraith behind it, but the gold key doesn't work in the lock. I figure there must be some way to negotiate through that rotating hall but I sure don't know what it is. Can anyone help? Thanks! - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 91 Mon Jan 27, 1992 D.CRANO [Big D] at 23:42 EST Whats happening, everyone quit playing or is everyone busy playing??? I am still stuck on the hunt for a switch, any help yet??? Or are we going to have to call for help??? Some one anyone, HELP. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 92 Tue Jan 28, 1992 FEDII.2 [Fi of H-by-A] at 16:49 EST Richard, I'm stuck at that bit with the two switches and the rolling wall - thanks for that information, hopefully that will get me through! You will die of old age is a real pig of a puzzle. I got through it by pushing buttons at random (like most of these things :). The set of buttons that revealed the large room with the skeletons, if pushed right will reveal another door. I -*think*- I remember which buttons did that!! But don't blame me if it's wrong... if you stand facing the middle button, the one of the left side is the one you need. Push it either once or 3 times. Well, it might work!! - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 93 Wed Jan 29, 1992 G.ABBOTT1 [Gregg Abbott] at 01:15 EST In the "Hunt for a switch" section, after you pull a switch, and push a button, leave the castle and look around. You may find something di different. One of the switches opens a wall on the first level of the dungeon. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 94 Wed Jan 29, 1992 R.EIDAL at 02:23 EST Thanks for the help on the 'you'll die of old age' section. Right after I asked for help I figured it out. There actually is method to the madness of the switches, I figured out. In the hallways with three switches, each switch rotates a separate section. There are three doors to move around, and each door will 'stick' to the section that is being moved. The sections rotate clockwise. It's difficult to explain, but a little methodical button pushing will make it clearer. Once you catch the hang of it you won't need to push the buttons at random. I just finished the Hunt for a Switch part. One problem I'm having is finding enough food. I go back outside, but no more rabbits appear! I'm down to my last couple of apples. Even running over the switch outside that triggers the rabbits to appear doesn't work. It quit after I entered the fourth quest, as far as I can tell. Has anyone else had this happen? Is there anyway to get more food? - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 95 Wed Jan 29, 1992 W.SUDDERTH2 at 08:51 EST On message #88, about the room near the "bread crumb trail" room; assuming we are both talking about the right place, that door is opened by a secret button. The button looks like a skull ( and the walls are already coated with bones), and these secret buttons are always in the upper, right corner. Just go around the room, facing the walls, and you should see an extra skull on one wall. then press it. About food: Has anyone tried THROWING food through a black portal door? it works. I threw rabbit pies into the fourth quest door, while I was still out in the forest. Then I loaded up my guys with more pies, and when i went through into the fourth quest, there was already a big pile of them waiting for me. If you come out of a quest carrying things like apples, crackers, and insects legs (things with little food value ), throw them through the portal first, so you have more room for better food items, like rabbit pies. Wierdly enough, the best food item found so far are grapes. Is the designer a wine nut?? About the well thing: I didn't like that puzzle. I saw the well , then found the coin, and assumed that the puzzle had to do with a 'wishing well'! Well, I am also stuck on the "target practice" puzzle now. I opened up the block at the end of the track, and got off the cart. But, I can't seem to get over the water. Some of these puzzles are not only better then those of Dungeon Master, but of DM's sequel, Chaos strikes Back. The artwork, for the monsters, is also extremely good. (a different style then DM, but it is good). The large dragon is especially impressive , it looks like it should take up two spaces, or moreX. But, the way it is drawn makes it look really large, but it still fits into one "square". A neat trick. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 96 Wed Jan 29, 1992 FEDII.2 [Fi of H-by-A] at 16:58 EST Richard, I've been ducking back outside lots of times during Quest 4 and have always found lots of rabbits to kill, as well as digging up all the apples I can find. BTW, what switch that triggers rabbits? I haven't come across that! Cthulhu: try swimming for it (but remember that armor sinks). - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 97 Wed Jan 29, 1992 R.EIDAL at 21:39 EST Hmmm. I haven't found any rabbits at all. When you first enter the forest at the beginning of the game, there's a lever on the wall you must throw in order to open up a way out of that little clearing and into the main part of the forest. Apparently the spot where the bushes disappear is a trigger to produce rabbits. But I still cannot find any, and I've dug up every apple I can find. By the way, has anyone made it past the 'Hunt for a Switch' part? I finished that section and now am down a couple of floors in the dungeon. There's a *huge* room down there, over in one corner is a gate and keyhole. In the other corner at that same end are about three invisible walls. Once I enter this room, there's no way out. The problem is that !@#$% big blue monster. I've spent hours trying to kill it and get wiped out every time. I've upped my characters' stats, done everything I can think of and no luck. I'm getting mighty frustrated. Has anyone figured a trick to killing it, or do you just have to keep hacking away. This is getting old fast, fighting this monster. I suspect that killing this beast will give me a key to open up the grille in this big room. Oh, man. I can see another monster behind the bars. Whew! - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 98 Thu Jan 30, 1992 D.CRANO [Big D] at 02:12 EST Are you saying dungeon, as in out of the castle??? If so you mean it is possible to get back.. I have never been able to stay alive after going back through the portal with the room/s full of ghosts.. I usually dye before I even make it to the second room, which is also full of more ghosts.. Is there anything other than the Dispell spell to fight the ghosts with??? I have looked the castle over top to bottom so I must take it that you mean the dungeon outside the castle.. But how do I get past the ghosts. Check your wands, one of them has a food spell... It works... - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 99 Thu Jan 30, 1992 W.SUDDERTH2 at 08:42 EST Remove armor before swimming through water? I do not know if this is just my copy or what.. I have noticed that if I go up the ladder and fight the spiders, then come back down, that the figures inside the training rooms are back to norm.. But if I go back down the second ladder it all messes up in the training rooms again... I am wondering if my game is messing up or my disks are messed up.. May be it is a bug in the game... Or is it possible it is trying to say something about the blue demon down in the depths of the dungeon, that does not seem to want to die... I you have made it past the Hunt for a Switch, would you please check out the training rooms after you go down the second ladder, but do not jump through the portal, go back to the training rooms and see if they are normal, or are the figures messed up in the rooms? Please let me know... - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 101 Sat Feb 01, 1992 R.EIDAL at 00:17 EST I'll go back up to the training rooms and see what happens. Maybe you're on to something. Still no rabbits, but I think I might know what I did wrong. I killed them all, when I should have left a couple of them so they could 'reproduce'. Oh, well. I've been keeping my characters health and stamina up with magic; I'll look for a food spell. The wire holding one of the rollers in my mouse broke tonight, so it might be a day or so before I can get back to the game. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 102 Sat Feb 01, 1992 D.CRANO [Big D] at 11:52 EST Yes check the training rooms out and see what you get.. Go down the second set of steps then come back and check them out.. As long as you do not go anywhere that calls for disk 2 again they will remain that way.. Even if you go up the hall and regenerate them, they come back messed up.. Even going to the room where the bats regenerate they come in messed up.. As soon as you go somewhere that call for access to disk 2, then it all goes back to norm... As for the food spell, check the staff of life, it is the last spell.. Sorry to hear about the mouse.. That is why I went to an optical mouse.. No more probs since. Anyway good luck with the mouse, let me know what you find out about the training rooms... - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 103 Sat Feb 01, 1992 FEDII.2 [Fi of H-by-A] at 17:20 EST Richard, if you're still having food trouble, don't forget there are several places where you can make spiders appear. When you kill them you are left with those ever-so-tasty spider's legs! Yum yum! - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 104 Sat Feb 01, 1992 D.CRANO [Big D] at 21:34 EST Has anyone found how to take out the blue demon in the bottom of the dungeon.. The one you find after the Hunt for a Switch??? I have tried for days and have been unable to take him out.. I have gone back to the Castle, looking for anything I may have missed.. Still no luck... I have found that by going down the ladder then coming back up to the training rooms, that the monsters in the training rooms are messed up graphics wise, but still seem to attack as they were.. This might be a bug, or may be some kind a hint as to the solution... Out of boredom I have gone back to the other three quests and retrieved all I have left behind.. This is possible because of the Aqualung you find down the stairs of the dungeon.. I have just about everything I have had in the game in my safe room in quest four now.. If anyone figures out the Blue demon please send a little, or a lot of help my way.. It would really help out here.. I am stuck for a solution to this one. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 105 Sun Feb 02, 1992 R.EIDAL at 19:03 EST I went back up to the training rooms after being downstairs, but there were no monsters to be seen. I had left all the doors open to the training rooms. Maybe that prevents the monsters from regenerating. I got my mouse fixed - went to a hobby shop for a thin wire to use in the roller and it works now, but one of the screws stripped the hole so I can't get the top as tight as it should be to the bottom. Thus the right mouse button doesn't work quite right. Guess it's time for a new mouse. This'll get me by for awhile, though. I went back to a previous saved game and have started the fourth quest over from scratch. Now that I know my way I can go faster and so my food is lasting longer. Still no rabbits. I'll start using that food spells. I also left the doors to the training rooms closed and I see that there are monsters within. I'm almost up to the Blue Meanie that nobody can kill. I'll see if the training room monsters go goofy when I come back upstairs. Just where do the spiders regenerate? I found one in one of the staff quests, after you cross the water and enter that little dungeon where the small spiders regenerate. There are big spiders behind a grille but I only got one to come out. Aha, I bet the switch is that pressure plate at the end of that long hall. I'll go try it. I got another spider in that area where you enter a hall and the pressure plate as you enter opens doors to three wizards. It's not too far from the training rooms, down a ladder. Anyway, another hallway down there has three pressure plates that put up walls. One time a spider appeared, but only once. I got one tasty spider leg out of it but don't know how the spider appeared. Oh, well. Still can t Still can't kill the Blue Monster. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 106 Sun Feb 02, 1992 D.CRANO [Big D] at 23:12 EST Richard, as for the training rooms, leave the doors closed, it really does not matter if they are open or closed, it is just much safer.. When ever you go down the main hall towards the push wall you regenerate the training rooms.. If you leave the doors open, it could be a pain in the you know what to get back down the hall... To check out the training rooms, when you get back there, just be sure you some monsters in them.. Then go down the ladder towards the blue demon.. Then come back to the training rooms.. See if they are normal or messed up graphics wise. I have noticed that if you go up or down any other ladder, then come back to the training rooms they will be back to norm again, till you go back down the ladder towards the blue demon... As for the spiders, well you will notice one training room has nothing in it except a ladder, I call this one my safe room where I store my stuff, it is also the one that open up the whole dungeon and the portal as well as the ladder to both the castle and blue demon.. Well anyway go up the ladder in the room.. Beyond the door up there is a pad that will regenerate a new spider every time you step on it. Glad to hear you got the mouse working again... The Blue Demon and I have been at it all day again today, still no luck.. I have even trQied range weapons, Bows/arrows, throwing stars, etc.. Still no luck.. Even went back to the castle to check it over again.. Thought maybe something with the roller wall that will not push down in the hunt for a switch might have something to do with it all, but still no luck there... - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 107 Tue Feb 04, 1992 R.EIDAL at 01:47 EST I worked my way back through level four, as far as the blue monster. I went back up to the training rooms and the monsters were all messed up - pretty strange looking. Thanks for the tip on regenerating monsters and spiders. I was wondering what that pad up at the top of that ladder was for. I also use that same room for my safe room. I wonder if that aqualung has something to do with killing the blue monster. I put it on and have been going back over all the areas with water in them. The three characters without aqualungs die, but the one wearing it can breathe. So far I 'have seen nothing but blue when I'm down there, but I'll keep looking. I'll be gone until this weekend so won't be able to play for several days. Hope someone can make some progress soon past that blue monster. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 108 Tue Feb 04, 1992 D.CRANO [Big D] at 20:08 EST Ok glad to see it was not my copy of Knightmare that was messed up... Another thing I have found was that as I have gone and built my characters up in stats using the training rooms, is that the monsters have started to take on more of a different shape.. It is hard to explain, but you saw how messed up they are, well they start to become more defined as other monsters.. An example is the large dragon, at times has come as a knight with a sword. The bats have at times looked more like the medusas( ).. As for the aqualung, I have done the same in some areas, but will also continue with the same.. In fact that was how I made it back through the other 3 quests to pick up items I had left behind... Another thing I just got a new spell on the cross of life, vivify, yes it is the same as the vivify from Bloodwych.. It will reincarnate a departed member of the group.. Yeah. Other than the above nothing new with the blue demon, in fact I have renamed my save game there to DEATH,, Ha ha ha... Like you I sure hope someone will come up with answer for this guy.. he has been one royal pain in the you know what. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 109 Tue Feb 04, 1992 J.BUDIL [Fiction Man] at 21:42 EST Just a side-remark from someone who hasn't even seen the game: if throwing a funny stick at the Jester caused him to disappear, maybe an unconventional weapon/item thrown at the blue demon will have a similar effect. Like the aqualung? I don't know, if you're bored, you should try anything. If there's a water spell, try casting it to drown the demon. I guess I should shut up since I don't know what I'm talking about, but maybe the above will strike a chord. Sounds like I gotta get this game. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 110 Wed Feb 05, 1992 E.BAIZ at 21:54 EST Well I just got my copy so I a little behind everyone. Great game so far. The graphics and sound effect are excellent. Now I have some catching up to do. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 111 Thu Feb 06, 1992 M.HAVELHORS1 at 21:58 EST Help! I've read where others have been stuck in where I'm at, but haven't read any solutions... I'm on the third quest, have met the jester and have gotten the gold coin. Throwing the coin into the well doesn't appear to trigger anything; I've been over the entire area twice, and have also gone back down the ladder to check things out- nothing. I've knocked against all the walls and searched for any more skull buttons, nada. Any hints appreciated! Killing that jester was a great work out for my party, glad to be able to keep the wand that I could have otherwise thrown at him to obtain the coin. And what good are the sunglasses I picked up a quest back?? Thanks!! - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 112 Thu Feb 06, 1992 JLHOFFMAN [John Hoffman] at 23:05 EST You might also read the amiga RT for more hints... When is a well not well and what do you have that might help?? Don't throw the coin. The coin and the well is misleading. Read the clue and look for something else that will help. A more detailed hint is already posted here or in the Amiga RT - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 113 Fri Feb 07, 1992 M.HAVELHORS1 at 01:46 EST Thanks John, thought I've captured and read all the messages here and in the Amiga RT, must've missed the specific reference...Well I'm really stumped but will check the inventory once again and see what happens. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 114 Fri Feb 07, 1992 FEDII.2 [Fi of H-by-A] at 16:44 EST I've now got to the bit in Que5st 4 past Hunt for a Switch, and I can't kill the demon either! He only has to hit my party once and someone is sure to die a horrible and painful death. So... I phoned Mindscape today to see if they could help. Unfortunately, their technical support people do not give out hints on any quests except the first one, because no-one there has played the game all the way through!! However, the guy I spoke to said that a hint book was being published next week, cost around 5 pounds sterling. Since I'm based in the UK, I'll buy a copy as soon as I see it and hope it gives an answer to this problem. Otherwise, I'll have to use my contacts in the UK software scene to have a chat with Tony Crowther :) (I do know someone who used to know him...) I don't know if the hint book will be available in the States, by the way. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 115 Sat Feb 08, 1992 D.CRANO [Big D] at 02:02 EST I was told by our local dealer that we can expect the Knightmare and Captive hint books here in the US in about 4 to 6 weeks... I hope we can figure a solution to the blue demon before then... Who knows though it is possible the hint books will not help much in this area either, but I sure hope we can come up with something soon.. I am about out of ideas on this one, but will keep at it... - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 116 Sat Feb 08, 1992 DOUGWILLIAMS at 17:38 EST What's the trick to "Search for a Switch"? I did the lever, key, button, bit & wandered around a lot. I went back the way I came & it had changed, there was a room with a creature & a chest plate, but a dead end otherwise. What am I missing? - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 117 Sat Feb 08, 1992 D.CRANO [Big D] at 20:33 EST Doug, check cat 21, I would like more detail on the new area you found with the creature and the chest plate. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 118 Sun Feb 09, 1992 D.FLORY [ALERTsys*Cop] at 00:29 EST Is anybody else having trouble with Mindscape's software. I gave up on Captive because my Mega wouldn't run it and on the Stacy it kept screwing up the saved game disk. I stupidly went out and bought Knightmare this afternoon and on the mega 4 it gives me 11 bombs, and on the Stacy ( with a color monitor connected) it gets to the beginning of the introductory music and locks up. I can't help but think they are using some such stupid copy protection as track 80-82 which is beyond the spec of the drives. I have trouble with the GCR on the Mega, but that and Mindscape are the only ones that I have trouble with. Very frustrating. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 119 Sun Feb 09, 1992 L.DUMAS [Leland ] at 06:32 EST There are several previous messages dealing with that problem. Basically it boils down to not running with 4 megs, so I am using MAKE1MEG.PRG and Knightmare is running great. I agree it's kind of a minor pain, but believe me, for this game, it's worth it! - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 120 Sun Feb 09, 1992 JLHOFFMAN [John Hoffman] at 15:56 EST Knightmare doesn't run properly on a system with 4 MB of ram. I have had success running on a mega4 st by loading a 2048KB reset proof ramdisk. Then reset and boot Knightmare. I have completed the first 3 quests using this setup so it is stable. >Doug, check cat 21, I would like more detail on the new area you found with >the creature and the chest plate. > What is cat 21?? I don't remember any cat 21 on my topics list. Is this a new one for knightmare?? - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 121 Sun Feb 09, 1992 FEDII.2 [Fi of H-by-A] at 17:19 EST John, Cat 21 is in the Amiga RT (page 555). Topic 6 of that Cat is also about Knightmare. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 122 Sun Feb 09, 1992 D.FLORY [ALERTsys*Cop] at 17:23 EST Leland, thanks for the tip, I'll give it a try. Don't know how I missed it. Does seem a little stupid of the programmers who obviously know how to program, but perhaps need a little good beta tester feedback. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 123 Sun Feb 09, 1992 DOUGWILLIAMS at 17:58 EST Whoa, Don meant the "Private, Specific Glues" Cat in this RT. One used to get in by sending mail to ADMIT$, give it a try, I need help over there. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 124 Mon Feb 10, 1992 D.CRANO [Big D] at 00:03 EST That is cat 21 top 2 in here.. It is private but has specific walk throughs. You have already been in there so I figured I would reply there. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 125 Mon Feb 10, 1992 JLHOFFMAN [John Hoffman] at 23:20 EST Hmmm, cat 21 top 2. I use aladdin all the time. For some reason aladdin doesn't even show a cat 21. I sent an email to admit$ requesting access to cat 21. I'll let pass it on if this works. Anyway, I do seem to remember long long ago (several years) that I did have access to cat 21, but I think you get kicked out if you don't access it every month. Anyway, I haven't been over there in several years. So it's interesting that you saw a message from me there. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 126 Fri Feb 14, 1992 R.SENNEMA [Rudy] at 23:24 EST Well, my Knightmare ended today-I got past the Blue Meanie and went on to eventually complete the quest. Among other things, the ending announces the next game by Tony Crowther. I can hardly wait to play Captive II-Freedom Fighters!! The Blue Meanie laughed at me-I would have liked to throw that funny stick at him to see what would happen but I used it on the Jester. I know a lot of people are stuck at this point so I will say that for me it boiled down to either him or me and a show of brute strength. I jumped into the dungeon with him, ran to a corner and saved the game under "Suicide". Then it was the DM two-step (watch it-he breaks the pattern) using Block, Pow, Cloud spells while going crazy with chainsaws and swords. Used Quicken to run to another corner and kept saving the game and used the guys in the back row to cast Restore and Fitness spells. Slept while I could and stayed out of that corner with the hidden wall!!! He was one baddd dude ... but I had the last laugh and he's history! Make sure you save your game before visiting the next monster! - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 127 Sat Feb 15, 1992 DOUGWILLIAMS at 12:55 EST I'm a bit disappointed to learn the end of the game is near, great game! Hope we don't have to wait too long for Captive II. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 128 Sat Feb 15, 1992 J.HOLLINGSW4 at 16:51 EST TARGET PRACTICE has got me hung up. I try throwing and shooting every thing I've got at the opposite wall. All I do is make more cobras. I must be overlooking something? Whats the trick? - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 129 Sat Feb 15, 1992 DOUGWILLIAMS at 17:32 EST I was at Target Practice a long time before I realized the other end of the track had opened up even though it didn't look like it. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 130 Sun Feb 16, 1992 J.HOLLINGSW4 at 11:21 EST Yeah--I finally got it--but now I am in a 3 square area with a border of water. I can't find anyway arou nd it--and wonder if I have to somehow kill the snakes to advance. If only I could fly. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 131 Sun Feb 16, 1992 DOUGWILLIAMS at 12:35 EST There have been several post on ways to get across the water, I say look in your bag & see if you have any way to run quicker. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 132 Sun Feb 16, 1992 L.DUMAS [Leland ] at 14:37 EST I'm stuck again! In the search for the 3 wands, I got the one from the "die of old age" area and went back to the main room, but now I can't figure out what to do. I went up the other ladder (reset in the centre) and killed a bunch of creatures, went through the stations alphabetically and still can't find a key to open the door. So, I went downstairs (goldy locks) killed the creature and found the gate without a lock. I can't figure how to get that open either. I sure could use some help here. Was there a key or button or lever I missed somewhere? I've tried the open spell on virtually everything too. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 133 Sun Feb 16, 1992 D.CRANO [Big D] at 22:28 EST Leland> In the Reset in the centre, well you say you went alphabetically, I sure hope you read the wall about Centre... As for Goldy Locks well you got the gate, read the sign, Goldy Locks... Think about the name, and look hard. If you need more let me know. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 134 Mon Feb 17, 1992 L.DUMAS [Leland ] at 18:22 EST Man! This is one tough game. These "Dizzy Rooms" have got me dizzy. Incidently, I don't remember anyone mentioning it before, although I assume most of you have found out, but the "Birds" on the wand is great for killing anything behind a grate if there is a wide opening on top. They seem to be fairly effective against wizards too. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 135 Wed Feb 19, 1992 J.HOLLINGSW4 at 01:06 EST Yeah--well, Im stuck again. Past the "safe" room in quest 4, there is an area that has 3 buttons on the wall. By pressing them a hallway is created that branches to either the right or left. On the right side I got to another room with a ladder down. I found only spirits there, and no hidden goodies. I can't seem to make the hallway extend to the left. Whts cooking??? - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 136 Wed Feb 19, 1992 R.EIDAL at 01:14 EST There's more for you to do down in the spirit room; there's another whole section for you, if you can figure out how to reach it. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 137 Wed Feb 19, 1992 R.SENSKE [Tradewind] at 22:11 EST Okay, I give. Can anyone tell me how to shut that pit just down the corridor from the mystic door in quest 2. I've gone though almost all of quest 2, with the exception of getting past this pit (so I can get into the room beyond. I've gone past the fireball room and opened up most of the doors with the faces on them. I can't open the last one because I'm missing one more key. Is it after the pit? What is the mystic door for? Any help would be appreciated. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 138 Thu Feb 20, 1992 J.HOLLINGSW4 at 00:49 EST RICHARD--I thought there might be---so I will go try some open spells on the doors--but they led nowhere if I remember, and I slammed into a lot of walls-- hm I hope I find it. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 139 Thu Feb 20, 1992 R.EIDAL at 02:18 EST That room is sort of a red herring at this point. You cannot enter it from across that pit, but you can get to it after you've progressed a little farther through all those doors. All the keys you need to open those doors are available to you, if you can find them. As for the mystic doors, how good of a pitcher are you? - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 140 Mon Feb 24, 1992 J.HOLLINGSW4 at 11:35 EST At the end of quest four--by the sprig, I keep hearing blasts. Im wonderin g if I have missed some nasties? Also, should I have the crown at that point? Im reluctant to continue, as it appears that I may become sealed in the castle. Is there a way out once I go down the ladder and confront the floating knights??? - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 141 Wed Feb 26, 1992 R.EIDAL at 22:44 EST Are you at that point where the door opened into a little dead end? There are three things there - a sprig of life, a ladder down, and a secret button that opens a way back into the forest. If that's where you are, you're nowhere near the end yet. As I recall, descending t the ladder closes off the way back, but only for a short while. You'll be able to get back up, which you'll probably need to do in order to stock up on food and stuff. The nasties you hear are in an area that isn't open to you yet. You won't get the crown until the *very* end of the game. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 142 Fri Feb 28, 1992 L.DUMAS [Leland ] at 18:02 EST This is definitely one irritating game!!! I loved it up to the quest for the 3 staffs, but I've had nothing but problems since I got there. Now I'm at the "Evil to the end" area (2 levers) and I have been trying for days to get past it with no luck. I've gotten a short passage, a long passage with the door at the beginning, a long passage with the door in the middle, an 'L' shape both right and left, with and without the rollerwall, but I cannot get that rollerwall to move again. I tried playing around with the button in the previous room also, since I have no idea what it does, but so far nothing seems to work. I killed the creature beyond the previous grate and I can see there is something in there, but I can't get past the grate to get it. I did find an iron key but can't find anyplace to use it. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Man! I thought these characters were smart enough to handle this on their own! - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 143 Fri Feb 28, 1992 SLIP at 22:18 EST I need help on the second quest... I've opened two doors but can't seem to find the third key. How do you get by the pit with the four doors? I've done everything I can think of and am bouncing off off the walls right now. - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 144 Sat Feb 29, 1992 F-D-PERCIVAL [Fred P.] at 05:15 EST There are two transporters in the Cup Quest that you must throw objects through. I've just begun the search for the cup and have hit a wall. I have found two keys and opened two doors beyond the fireball pressure plates but can't find the third. How do I close the pit in the floor and how do I get by the "Door" in behind the door near the die.HELP! - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 147 Sat Feb 29, 1992 I've thrown all kinds of stuff as it is.nothing has helped ---- Category 9, Topic 9 Message 148 Sat Feb 29, 1992 R.EIDAL at 22:12 EST If I recall correctly, you must take that iron key you got from the 'evil to the end' area and go back out to the dizzy rooms. Go to the main area with the four switches. Now turn so the switches are behind you. Forward and to your left is the hall you just came back down. To the right of that hall is the other one you can open up. You must rotate the doors to get all the way down to the end of this right hand wall, where you earlier should have found a gea key. There's a door there that your iron key will open, and inside is another gea key. This gea key will open up the grate back there at the 'evil to the end' area. Yup, you've got to go all the way back there again. Open up the grate, kill the ogre and you're on your way! - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 149 Sun Mar 01, 1992 L.DUMAS [Leland ] at 04:27 EST I was afraid it was something like that. I've avoided trying it out, because I dread the idea of going through those switches again. This game has been great, but frankly these switches have gotten boring. Thanks, - Category 9, Topic 9 Message 150 Sun Mar 01, 1992 G.ZEPKA1 [Greg] at 22:13 EST I am stuck past the dizzy rooms, in a room with a lot of pits. Complete four quests and defeat Lord Fear. 84 message(s) total. - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 1 Sun Dec 22, 1991 R.EIDAL at 12:27 EST Knightmare's out! I'm stuck already! I can't kill those trolls that come after me when I unlock the door to the room with the spade in it. I've got the penknife and the spade but just can't whip them. There isn't anything I've found that can kill them. And how do I get past those trees guarding the doors out of the forest area? - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 2 Sun Dec 22, 1991 C.DRAKE3 [Chris Drake] at 19:09 EST In the Amiga RT they say to leave the trolls in the room until you advance your characters. You need to get by the tree that says it lost it's child to go on to the first mission. To get by it you need to throw the twig at it. I've mapped the entire forest and still can't find the twig. If you find it post a message as to where it is PLEASE!. - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 3 Mon Dec 23, 1991 D.LEMAY2 [Darwin] at 04:43 EST Has anyone figured out the prison? I've got an iron key, but can't find where to use it. That's in Quest 1. - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 4 Wed Dec 25, 1991 R.EIDAL at 01:38 EST I opened the door and have been chased by those !@#$%& trolls and now I find out I shouldn't open that door yet. At least I saved a game right before opening it so I can restart there. As I recall, the twig is found right next to the lever where you enter the forest. Facing the lever, the portal will be on the square to your left, and the twig is on the square to your right. Something else I discovered - when you get the spade in that locked room, go back out and if you dig on the grassy areas, it turns them into dirt. It's a good way to keep track of where you've been. Also, the squares with those funny purple plants, when you dig them you get an apple, and there's tons of them so you'll never starve! On to the first quest! - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 5 Wed Dec 25, 1991 D.LEMAY2 [Darwin] at 06:28 EST Anyone past the second quest, please check my question in cat9, top 9, how to get of the second quest after you get the cup. - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 6 Sat Jan 04, 1992 R.EIDAL at 17:08 EST Is anyone still out there playing Knightmare? I'm thinking I used it to open the troll door & there aren't any more, but I hate to start over at this point. - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 8 Sun Jan 05, 1992 R.EIDAL at 21:51 EST It's not a mistake to let the trolls out prior to the first quest. There are enough iron keys in the quests themselves to finish each one - you don't need the key you find next to the room with the trolls in any of the quests - at least not up through the first part of quest four, which is where I am. The trolls were so hard to kill that I waited until finishing the third quest before letting them out and killing them. If you're in the first quest and haven't got enough keys to get out, it means you've missed part of the quest; be sure to examine ALL the walls and such for secret passages and buttons, etc. I was hung up in the first quest myself for quite a while. - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 9 Tue Jan 07, 1992 DOUGWILLIAMS at 22:41 EST Yep. thanks, I found it. The bronze key was what I needed. I've been playing Captive so long I'm not used to looking so closely at the walls. - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 10 Sun Jan 12, 1992 DOUGWILLIAMS at 19:30 EST Well, I'm stuck again. What all is there to find in the bread crumb portals on quest 3? I found a key & a door it unlocks which gave me another key. This got me through 3 more doors on the outside but I'm still missing at least two more keys. Have looked for false wall & buttons, etc. Do I need to return to the portals? (I hope not!). - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 11 Mon Jan 13, 1992 D.MCNAMEE [Dan @ Atari] at 21:34 EST Well, I'm stuck. I'm in the 2nd (cup) quest, and I can't figure out the mystic door. I threw something across the pit, and it opened the wall, but I can't find any way into the area across the pit. I also can't find a way into the "don't enter" area. I can get the first gate open, but not the second, and I can't figure out how to get past the "sinking" square. I have found 3 gold keys so far, and have opened that area up as much as I can, and I have killed the cobras in the invisible wall room and have gone through all that, so near as I can figure out, I have only 3 places left to go. Help! Also, when I threw the shield at the tree to kill it, it disappeared. Do you find it again later in the game? - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 12 Wed Jan 15, 1992 D.MCNAMEE [Dan @ Atari] at 21:29 EST Ok, I've finally figured out the mystic door and got through the warp maze, but I'm still having problems with the don't enter area. No answer on the shield disappearing? - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 13 Thu Jan 16, 1992 DOUGWILLIAMS at 20:48 EST Dan, if you got the first gate open (by throwing something through the door to trip the switch), that's it at that point. You'll find the other side of the 2nd gate later. No one's got an answer for my problem yet huh? - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 14 Thu Jan 16, 1992 DOUGWILLIAMS at 22:58 EST Nevermind, I discovered my folly..(so far). Also, Dan I believe the objects you find at the end of each quest are only there to progress you to the next. We'll see... - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 15 Fri Jan 17, 1992 A.ASIN3 at 00:48 EST Hi all. I had the same problem as Dan. I've been all around that area on the 2nd (cup) quest. Been through the invisible walls area & thrown stuff in the warp doors to open some areas. Is there something I'm missing at the fireball room or the "holy Moly" area? Maybe it's just me - even Chaos Strikes back wasn't this hard, but still a great game tho. I really want to go on with the game but am totally stuck here. Some help would really be appreciated. Thanx in advance - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 16 Fri Jan 17, 1992 D.MCNAMEE [Dan @ Atari] at 16:11 EST ;-) Thanks Doug. I figured out the Mystic door with throwing things through it. Glad to hear that I'm not the only one that may be missing the shield at the end of the game. After it disappeared, I went back and looked through the first quest again, and it wasn't there. Oh well, I'm keeping good maps at least if I have to go back. Now about that darned "don't enter" area. Try placing items on the pressure pads in the fireball room to make a path. - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 17 Sat Jan 18, 1992 DOUGWILLIAMS at 13:27 EST At the Mystic Doors, make sure to through something through all four doors. The same tactic is used to open the Don't Enter gate. Throw something through the open door, the first gate will open giving you access to another key. - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 18 Sun Jan 19, 1992 DOUGWILLIAMS at 13:26 EST I stated earlier that the objects acquired at the end of a quest are your key to the next quest. Upon finding the Sword of Freedom at the end of quest 3, I didn't want to give i't up. It's the best weapon I've found so far. Someone mentioned elsewhere that you can bash your way through the trees rather than throw the object at them. I tried this & was able to keep the sword. - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 19 Mon Jan 20, 1992 A.ASIN3 at 23:46 EST Help! I'm stuck at the warp maze. I've bumped into all walls - all I can find is a small secret section after you enter the maze & turn right. several steps before the wall. there's some spider legs in it but nothing else. I appreciate the help I've gotten here before and can really use some again now. I've been at this for several hours. I can't get to the guy with the headdress at the end of a hall with a pressure plate. is he (it) the answer somehow? I didn't have this much trouble with Chaos strikes back & that was hard! Please - what am I missing? - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 20 Tue Jan 21, 1992 D.MCNAMEE [Dan @ Atari] at 19:07 EST Yep, I figured that all out. The don't enter part that was getting to me was the second gate that I couldn't open. I finally figured out that the second gate is actually the gate you can see in the area where the pressure plate is that opens the first gate. Bit of a warp there ;-) Working on the sword quest now. Once you get to the cabinet with the spider legs, take 3 steps backwards. - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 21 Thu Jan 23, 1992 L.DUMAS [Leland ] at 14:58 EST I'm Stuck! I just got this game yesterday and I'm already in trouble! (g) On the first quest, I can't find a key for the room that you get to with the second boat. (In the sewers of course.) Does anyone have any idea where it is? Also, is there any purpose to the flower pots and sewer grates? Basically. it seems like a very good game (although the graphics kind of pale compared to Captive), but it looks like it's going to be a tough one too. Incidently, What is REM on the magic wand? - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 22 Fri Jan 24, 1992 D.MCNAMEE [Dan @ Atari] at 15:23 EST Look for buttons hidden on the walls of the sewer. There should be 4 of them I think. REM makes your characters go into a deep sleep when you sleep, which causes their stats to recharge much faster while sleeping. - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 23 Fri Jan 24, 1992 L.DUMAS [Leland ] at 18:33 EST >REM makes your characters go into a deep sleep when you sleep, which causes >their stats to recharge much faster while sleeping. Thanks Dan, I had begun to suspect that. Now How do I use the wand to heal someone. Do they need the appropriate magic points and use it on themselves? That was what I thought, but it didn't seem to work when one of them was poisoned. Sure do appreciate the help. It's a great game but I guess I don't know enough about this type to understand what all the magic is and how to use it. - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 24 Sat Jan 25, 1992 R.EIDAL at 12:52 EST In order to use the wands, the character casting the spell must be directly behind the character who is being healed. It usually takes several casts in order to heal. If your spell caster is the one that needs healing, he (or she) must be in front. Cast the spell, then quickly move forward a space to 'catch' the spell you just cast. It'll probably also take a few tries before the character is fully healed. It's a strange way to do it, not very obvious. Experiment with all the different spells, too. - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 25 Sat Jan 25, 1992 L.DUMAS [Leland ] at 18:14 EST Thanks, I went over to the Amiga Roundtable and got a hint on it from them. I'm _really_ curious to find a use for a spell that creates birds! If only I could shoot them down and eat them! (g) - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 26 Sun Jan 26, 1992 DOUGWILLIAMS at 12:46 EST The birds seem to just be a weapon. How about 'AIM' & 'POW', anyone figured out their purpose? - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 27 Sun Jan 26, 1992 L.DUMAS [Leland ] at 20:52 EST Now I'm stuck on the Quest for the Sword (no. I'll post this in CAT 9 and 21, but if you're 6specific please respond in CAT 21 or by E-Mail. Thanks...You may be able to save me a psychiatrists bill! - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 28 Mon Jan 27, 1992 R.EIDAL at 00:55 EST Short and to the point, look for a secret button. - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 29 Mon Jan 27, 1992 D.CRANO [Big D] at 23:47 EST Anyone have any help for the HUNT FOR A SWITCH in quest 4... I have done about everything I can think of... Found the Switch, Pushed the button.. What else is there to do??? The roller wall will not push, and can not find anything else to do in the whole castle.. Atleast not that I can find... Any help, or suggestions would be nice... It is getting frustrating to say the least. - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 30 Wed Jan 29, 1992 R.EIDAL at 02:26 EST In the Hunt for a Switch section there's a lever, a key to put in a lock, and then a room opens up with a button to push. If you've done all that, head back to the first level, where a new wall has opened up. - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 31 Thu Jan 30, 1992 D.CRANO [Big D] at 02:12 EST When you say the first level, do you mean outside the castle, back at the dungeon, or better in the area of the training rooms... If so how do you get past the portal in the castle that has all the ghosts behind it.. I can get in the room after about 4 or 5 tries then I just dye in that room or if I am lucky I can make it to the next room. Only to dye from all the ghosts.. Is there any other way to knock off the ghosts other then the disspell spell?? Even with both wands blazing I can not last long enough to make it through.. I have spent several days just trying by going back and forth through the portal, but it seems each time I come back through it the room is again full of ghosts. As for food, I do not remember which wand it is, but one of them has a food spell and it works.. I have been living off of it for weeks.. I did not know one could get back to the dungeon to get more food, as I said... - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 32 Thu Jan 30, 1992 C.DRAKE3 [Chris Drake] at 19:23 EST If you didn't notice sometime back, there is a ghost generator out in one of those rooms on the other side of the portal. All you need to do is go through the portal, kill as many as you can (dispell spell) pop back through and sleep to regain your magic, then repeat the process. I've done this several times to get food, it takes a while but it works. Like you I also can't find the wall that disappeared from the Hunt for a Switch section. When I'm done here I'll fight through the ghosts and look out there. (BTW, I threw a switch, unlocked a lock and pushed a button, that is all isn't it??) - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 33 Thu Jan 30, 1992 C.DRAKE3 [Chris Drake] at 20:15 EST I found the wall that disappeared, the bad news is that you do have to go through the portal and back up the ladder. When you get up the ladder go through the door (the one the star key opened) and now you will be able to go to the left where you will find a ladder going down! BTW, it took me about half an hour to kill enough ghosts to get back. One good thing to do is to fight your way out to the pit then when your magic user wears out drop down the pit and rest there. This is about half way back to the ladder up. If you have any other questions I'll try to help you out. Back to the Dungeon!! - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 34 Thu Jan 30, 1992 D.CRANO [Big D] at 22:01 EST Looks like you found it.. I finally did figure how to back through those dumb ghosts.. I did find the new opening, and took care of the first couple of demons.. But then found the next ladder going down.. The demon down there is really one tough customer.. Have not been able to take him out yet.. I have beat on him will all I have and every spell I can find, no luck.. I have checked the room out and found 1 gate with a keyhole also 2 hidden walls that connect with each other.. Other than than that, it is just me and the demon... I figure he has the key for the gate, when you touch him he says Ha If you or anyone else figure how to take out this demon please let me know... It will also be interesting to see what the aqua pack is for that you find in the alter in the room above. Also a couple of hints for all that might not know this yet.. But you can actually cast a spell on the wand carrier in two ways.. One if you are in front of one of the doors with faces on them, you can cast the spell at the door, it will bounce back to the caster.. The other way is to cast a spell then at the same time jump forward in to the spell, this will also work... - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 35 Sat Feb 01, 1992 R.EIDAL at 00:30 EST I've been fightingn that blue monster for days and still can't kill it. There's got to be something I'm missing. When I go back up there are no go` When I go back up there are no ghosts at all. I wonder if I found a way to turn off the ghost generator. There's a pressure plate at the end of a long hall on the level where you first enter the castle. The hall opens with a secret button. I'll describe how to get there. When you go through the portal from the castle proper to the castle 'entry', take one step right, five steps forward, two step left, then two steps backwards. Turn a quarter turn to the right and push the button. Face forwards again, go seven steps forwards, two steps right, then forwards to the wall. Turn right and go down the long hallway to the pressure plate at the end. Could that be a plate that turns off the ghosts? I've heard a lot of people run into lots of ghosts, but I never see any. Maybe this can help. - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 36 Sat Feb 01, 1992 D.CRANO [Big D] at 11:53 EST Thanks for the directions to the button and the hidden hall, that did it, no more ghosts... Thanks again.. As for that Blue Demon, well same here have beat on him till I am blue, also, ha ha.. No luck... I have thrown about everything but the kitchen sink at him, I would throw that also if I could find one.. Still no luck.. I have gone back to the training rooms to build up stats on my group and have cleaned them out about a dozen times, even if they were messed up or not.. I agree with you we must have missed something on that guy, he seems pretty invincible at this time.. Have you ever touched him, all he has to say is Ha Ha Ha.. Hummm... I have also noticed that when I let him have the chain saws and swords, I can only get about 10 to 20 hit points on him, I usually get 100 to 150 on most critters, but not him... As for the rabbits, I have been out and noticed a lack of them, but do not know if this was it or not, but I did go back through quest one and two to get some items I left behind.. After that it did seem like the rabbits were back in force, you might try that, see if it might help... - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 37 Sat Feb 01, 1992 DOUGWILLIAMS at 12:18 EST Has anyone tried to build up their magician's stamina at the training rooms? I did, using them as gladiators & at the same time working on the magic of my warriors. The magic recycles quicker once the stamina is built up. I say this cause I had no trouble with the ghosts, just sat back & fired two wands until they were all gone, or at least, until they reappeared but by then I'd be on my way. - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 38 Sat Feb 01, 1992 DOUGWILLIAMS at 20:36 EST OK, now I'm really stuck at the "You'll Die Of Old Age" bit. Is this the same area some refer to as the "Dizzy Rooms"? Any help would be appreciated. Also, I found out that the priest can create potions from his spells, I haven't seen this mention before. People have been coming up with clever ways for him/her to cast a spell on himself. - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 39 Sat Feb 01, 1992 D.CRANO [Big D] at 21:34 EST Ok guys and dolls, have not had any more luck trying to figure out the blue demon down at the bottom of the dungeon in quest 4.. I have tried in vain to take him out.. Have gone back to the castle and looked it over top to bottom. Gone through the whole dungeon, having taken out the critters in the training rooms till I have built up my guys as much as I can stand.. Even went out today and went back through the previous 3 quests to retrieve any items I may have left behind.. I think I have all the items I ever got in the game so far... All this but still no answer on what to do with the blue demon... If you can send any help at all this way, it would be greatly appreciated, to say the least. - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 40 Sun Feb 02, 1992 L.DUMAS [Leland ] at 16:17 EST I think I need some very specific help! I'm at the "Target Practice" area and I can't seem to get anywhere. I went through the "conveyor of Life" and got the "Star Key" (which doesn't fit the door downstairs :^]), then I went to the this area and cast an "open" spell straight ahead and (I think) into every area to the side. Then I tried shooting arrows and throwing things in every direction. I'm now down to my last area (I picked up some stuff through the floor of the car) and I'm stuck. _Exactly_ where do I need to shoot this arrow? I've been working on this all day and I'm at my wit's end. Any help would be _greatly_ appreciated! - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 41 Sun Feb 02, 1992 DOUGWILLIAMS at 18:34 EST Re: "Target Practice", I spent a lot of time there, & as it turned out I had open the wall at the other end without knowing it. The wall didn't look open, sneaky ?huh? I'm still working on the "Old Age" bit, spent lots of hours here & finally made it to the room full of pits. I don't think there's much "help" one could offer in this area, you just need a lot of patience. (ALOT!) - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 42 Sun Feb 02, 1992 R.EIDAL at 19:18 EST Here's some help on the 'old age' place. It's *very* confusing until you figure it out. In the big main room there are two secret switches. Each one rotates a separate 'block', the same way as in the dizzy rooms. The blocks rotate clockwise. There are three doors that 'float' between the blocks, attaching themselves to the block that is being moved. By moving the blocks and doorways around, you'll open up a hallway with three more secret buttons. These three buttons do the same thing - each button controls a separate block. If you are facing the button at the end of this hallway, the button in front of you rotates the block directly behind you. The button to your right rotates the block behind you to your right (this block was also rotated by one of the buttons out in the main room.) The button on your left rotates the block behind you to your left. There are three doors that once again 'float' among the blocks. You've got to position these doors so that you can make your way down another hallway behind you to your left (as you face the middle button of the three.) Actually, there are two hallways back there but only one is accessible at a time. There's also another dead end hallway with three more buttons that work the same way as the first three you found. It's actually after these three buttons that you can enter either one of those two hallways, sorry, not after the first set of three buttons. Be sure to look for a key in there, too. You'll finally get to a couple of rooms, one at the end of each hallway, each has its own little adventure, with a key as a reward for each. These keys will eventually get you out of there, hopefully before old age sets in. I'm sorry, I hope I've actually helped and not confused people even more. In those hallways there are spinners that will turn you, putting stuff on the floor as you work your way through will keep you oriented. Once you catch the logic of that area it'll all fall into place. Good luck!] - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 43 Thu Feb 06, 1992 D.CRANO [Big D] at 21:45 EST Where did everyone go, are we all stuck with the unbeatable Blue Demon.. Sure could use some help HELP HELP. - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 44 Sat Feb 08, 1992 DOUGWILLIAMS at 12:39 EST I'm not at the demon yet but have you tried to "weaken" him? Hope to get there this week-end, I'm at the private pool now.. - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 45 Sat Feb 08, 1992 DOUGWILLIAMS at 17:48 EST Well, now I'm stuck at "Search for a Switch", can anyone offer any clues here? The lever, key & button were too easy & didn't seem to get me anywhere. Thanks in advance.. - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 46 Sat Feb 08, 1992 D.CRANO [Big D] at 19:38 EST Doug, yes you are almost there... As for weaken, well that is one of the first things I have tried.. Weaken and Retard are both on the same wand and have the same effect on the blue demon, they go right through him, they seem to have no effect what so ever... Also do not try fury on him, as it will bounce back to you. For those of you who want a little fun and may be do not mind cheating a little, I have just uploaded a file called Knightct.lzh.. This will create a save game disk that all of your party will have stats of 999 and 99. You have to start back at the beginning, but it is fun to play with. - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 47 Sat Feb 08, 1992 D.CRANO [Big D] at 20:33 EST Ok exit the castle and go back to the dungeon, once there look for the new opening that was created when you hit the button in Hunt for a Switch.. It will be to the left as you come up the ladder back at the dungeon.. There you will find a down ladder at the end of the hall.. Have fun with this one. >Atari-ST RoundTable >Category 9, Topic 9 >Message 116 Sat Feb 08, 1992 >DOUGWILLIAMS at 17:38 EST > >What's the trick to "Search for a Switch"? What am I missing? >- Also in reply to the above message, can you give me more detail on the area that just opened up where you found the chest plate and what was the creature .. The only area I have ever been able to find is the one in the dungeon that leads to the unbeatable blue demon.. I would be interested in any area I might have missed... - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 48 Sun Feb 09, 1992 DOUGWILLIAMS at 13:08 EST As you go back from the switch room, to the room above the medusas, move around & you'll notice an animal head in the corner appear & disappear. Go down the ladder after getting it one way or the other (I can't remember which but you have a 50/50 chance), instead of the medusa room there'll be a buttoned door. The creature is the same as the ones on the way to the switch room. I've since been back in the castle & haven't found anything, will try again today. I'm worried cause there's a key-locked door still up there & I don't have any keys. Who knows where I may have missed one! - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 49 Sun Feb 09, 1992 DOUGWILLIAMS at 15:07 EST I've back-tracked & found an area I may not have solved, maybe someone can help. This room is down several flights of stairs, it has three portals near a foot switch & a lever further down which, I think, opened up the exit from the room. Anything that goes through any of the portals ends up at the far end of the room. It seems like something is supposed to happen here but I never could figure it out. Anyone?? - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 50 Sun Feb 09, 1992 DOUGWILLIAMS at 18:07 EST Still stuck after the switch rooms I found another spot I never figured out. When you leave the "Old Age" part, where there are invisible walls & a fireball shooting, Inside one of the walls is a blue button that I was unable to push. That is I pushed it but it didn't move. Any clue about this? I am really stuck, nothing opened up after the switch rooms & I can't even get back to the training rooms. The portal is there but I can't go through. I have to think it has to do with that keyed door I didn't open, the game won't let me go further until I complete certain things, but I can't find another key. - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 51 Mon Feb 10, 1992 D.CRANO [Big D] at 00:02 EST You can get back though the portal.. You will have to keep trying till the ghosts on the other side decide to move and let you in.. Besure you have at least 2 wands set for dispell or you will never make it... Once you get through, there is a button you missed that will turn off the ghost regeneration.. There is a message to me from richard in this topic explaining how to do it.. If you need more help just let me know and I will explain how to get to the button to turn them off... It makes it much easier to get from the castle to the dungeon and visa versa. But even with all the ghosts there you can do it, just a pain in the neck. - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 52 Mon Feb 10, 1992 DOUGWILLIAMS at 20:26 EST Thanks, I've went through the ghosts earlier without major problem, I'll give that a try & look for that button. - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 53 Mon Feb 10, 1992 DOUGWILLIAMS at 21:11 EST Many thanks Don, that worked. I was about to start 4 over. BTW, did you find the room I mentioned or had you already seen that? - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 54 Tue Feb 11, 1992 D.CRANO [Big D] at 19:53 EST Your welcome... And yes I did find the room, I had been there already. Must not have remembered it. - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 55 Wed Feb 12, 1992 DOUGWILLIAMS at 22:27 EST Don, Any progress on the blue guy? Iv'e bounced in there a few times & he is a bit strong. Since that's near the training rooms one could assume one's suppose to "train" to beat him, but this is a big jump in competition. I tried to send gargoyles threw to soften him up but they came right back.. - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 56 Thu Feb 13, 1992 R.EIDAL at 01:30 EST I've been trying to beat that blue monster for almost three weeks now. I've trained and trained and trained. I also am using magic to up my characters levels in everything - strength, dexterity, agility, etc., but still to no avail. When I hit the blue guy I do more damage than before, but I still can't kill him - he's just too strong. Guess I'll keep at the training rooms, but this is getting old. There must be something we're missing. - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 57 Thu Feb 13, 1992 D.MCNAMEE [Dan @ Atari] at 16:31 EST I'm having trouble in the target practice area. Have I missed a button or something? - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 58 Thu Feb 13, 1992 L.DUMAS [Leland ] at 18:17 EST Throw everything you've got across the water, then, if you're fast, you can run across it. - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 59 Thu Feb <13, 1992 DOUGWILLIAMS at 22:46 EST Or try to run quicker. Maybe Leland is saying the same thing but you don't have to drop everything. Just make sure you're not in the red. Magic seems to be more important at the point I'm at so work on it. - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 60 Thu Feb 13, 1992 D.CRANO [Big D] at 22:56 EST I wish I could say yes, but afraid I can not. No progress at all.. As for the training rooms, well let me tell you a story.. I uploaded a cheat program here.. What it does is makes a save game disk that gives you a party of 4 with stats of 999/99. This is as high as they go.. MY son took that disk and in 2 days made it from the beginning of quest 1 to the blue demon.. Well he went through the portal and was dead in about 10 sec.. He was hitting for about 10 to 20 hit points. He could hit most anything else for 400 hit points.. And the blue demon was hitting him for over 600.. My party has a strength of over 400 and I am hit for about 300-350.. But I can only hit him for 10-15 hit points. So if my son and hit stats of 999 can not even attempt to take him out, I doubt that there is anything we can do in the training rooms that will help us with him. I have reached the point where I am starting to get very upset and frustrated. I do not mind a challenge, but this is dumb.. I know of of at least 12 people who have been with that blue demon for over a week and none of us have come up with anything at all.. I am just about out of ideas, if you have any let me know. I have gone under water every where I can find water, hunted both the dungeon and the castle for hidden walls and buttons.. Looked every where for anything I might have missed.. Still nothing. I have even been hitting on him through the portal and have accumulated at least 150 hit points on him with no luck... I am beginning to think the only answer is going to be when we hear something from Mindscape. BTW> Did you know you can cast a Golem(gargoyle) through a grated door.. That is any grated door except the one down there with blue demon that is. Anyone HELP HELP HELP, I am beginning to loose interest in the game. I really do not want to do this, because I have really been enjoying the game, but after two weeks and no luck on the Blue Demon I am about ready to move on to something else. - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 61 Fri Feb 14, 1992 D.MCNAMEE [Dan @ Atari] at 15:02 EST Thanks! I wasn't sure what to do next. Running on water, eh? - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 62 Sat Feb 15, 1992 L.DUMAS [Leland ] at 08:20 EST You'll have to use the same technique at another spot later in the game Dan. Just remember: Armor weighs you down considerably. - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 63 Sat Feb 15, 1992 DOUGWILLIAMS at 13:08 EST While working out in the training rooms I developed a new power called "freeze". It's the last one on the wand with the flame on the end (I forget it's name). Has anyone tried that on the demon yet? I'm trying to build it up a bit before I do, it's not real reliable right now. I tried sending gargoyles through the portal, they just came back at me. Don, by now you've probably seen on Cat 9 that someone has finished, so there's hope out there. At the same time, I don't look forward to not playing anymore. Guess it'll be back to the never-ending Captive for awhile... - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 64 Sat Feb 15, 1992 DOUGWILLIAMS at 17:29 EST Well, I beat the blue guy...bad news is he took out my two magic guys & I don't think I can beat the guy behind the gate without them. You can slip by that guy & get back upstairs but the sprig of life doesn't work anymore, so I'm going to try again. My most powerful weapons ,at this point, seemed to be a #5 "weaken" & a #6 acidball. They're still not real reliable, but a couple each softened Mr. Blue up for my fighters. - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 65 Sat Feb 15, 1992 DOUGWILLIAMS at 19:27 EST I finished, it took several attempts but I made it. Still wonder what the aqualung was for...& does any one know what the Trilby was? I carried it through most the game & never did find a use for it. - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 66 Sun Feb 16, 1992 D.CRANO [Big D] at 00:55 EST Yep read it... I am going to have to load up and check that Freeze spell out, when I get it... Like you said do not look forward to the end, but back to the old faithful Captive.. Besides the messages in there have been dropping lately... But for now back to the dungeon for one more KnightMare. May be the Aqualung was for just what I used it for.. I went back through all the quests and picked up everything I left behind.. If it were not for the Aqualung I could not have done that, because of the boats being in the wrong spots... As for the Trilby, beats me. I carried it also. - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 67 Sun Feb 16, 1992 DOUGWILLIAMS at 12:48 EST I suspect that some have given up on this game, it had some very frustrating moments, even with the help in this RT. I'm in mission 9 of Captive & the gameplay is pretty routine now. Hope we don't have to wait a year for the sequel! - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 68 Sun Feb 16, 1992 L.DUMAS [Leland ] at 14:36 EST I'm stuck again! In the search for the 3 wands, I got the one from the "die of old age" area and went back to the main room, but now I can't figure out what to do. I went up the other ladder (reset in the centre) and killed a bunch of creatures, went through the stations alphabetically and still can't find a key to open the door. So, I went downstairs (goldie locks) killed the creature and found the gate without a lock. I can't figure how to get that open either. I sure could use some help here. Was there a key or button or lever I missed somewhere? I've tried the open spell on virtually everything too. - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 69 Sun Feb 16, 1992 D.CRANO [Big D] at 22:28 EST Seeing as you left a message here I will give you a basic walk through. Goldy Locks- You have found the gate now, if you do not have the gold coin to throw in the gate, you need to find it. Look where you knocked of the big dude., Reset in Centre- You have the basic idea, go through from A to D, but be sure you go from pad to pad through the center with out stepping on the pad in the center, it resets all the pads.. Besure you kill the creatures so they do not step on the pad in the center also.. Now once you have done that, with your back to the boat and facing the entrance looking at the pad in the center, go in and stay to your right till you come to the first opening, this was a dead end alcove till you set the A-D pads, now it will be an opening.. Have fun back there. - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 70 Mon Feb 17, 1992 L.DUMAS [Leland ] at 07:37 EST Thanks a lot. I had begun to suspect that the center might have been reset, although I thought it might have been accidently by me. I started back through again. As for Goldy Locks, I don't know why it never occurred to me to try throwing the coin through the gate. I guess my brain has really been fried by this game! - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 71 Mon Feb 17, 1992 L.DUMAS [Leland ] at 18:22 EST Man! In the dizzy rooms, I've found 3 keys and used 2 of them. Do I just have to keep playing with the doors to find a place to use the third one? I've been playing around with them all afternoon and can't find anyplace to use this key. (I think it's the bronze one.) I presume that somewhere I'm going to find a coin to get me into that room upstairs. - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 72 Mon Feb 17, 1992 DOUGWILLIAMS at 21:24 EST Leland, you probably figured it out by now but you have more to do in the Dizzy Rooms... - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 73 Tue Feb 18, 1992 D.MCNAMEE [Dan @ Atari] at 15:54 EST Thanks! I'm past there already. I'm all the way back downstairs to the big room that starts out filled with ghosts. Finished off the ghosts and am now working on all those skeletons. So, am I just barely scratching the surface of this dungeon, or am I most of the way through it now? - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 74 Sat Feb 22, 1992 K.BURKENHEIM [K.BURKENHEIM] at 12:24 EST Does anyone have any maps to upload? I have a problem mapping. - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 75 Fri Feb 28, 1992 L.DUMAS [Leland ] at 18:02 EST This is definitely one irritating game!!! - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 76 Sat Feb 29, 1992 K.BURKENHEIM [K.BURKENHEIM] at 12:43 EST I am only on the second level. I have 4 keys --1 in the fireball rm. 1 1 in the mystic door rm. 1 in the do not enter rm. and 1 in holy moley rm. where is the 5th key??? I have looked everywhere!! I haven't found the three legs even though I have looked for them. _any_ help would be greatly appreciated. - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 77 Sat Feb 29, 1992 DOUGWILLIAMS at 17:16 EST Leland, I was stuck at "Evil" quite a while too, maybe I can help. If you found a key in there, that's it. After I banged around in there for hours, I went back to the Dizzy Rooms & found what I needed to progress... - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 78 Sun Mar 01, 1992 L.DUMAS [Leland ] at 04:28 EST Thanks Doug, I've spent days trying to get that wall to move. I found the key very early on. Oh well, I have to go out of town for a few days, Maybe when I return I'll have calmed down a little. - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 79 Mon Mar 02, 1992 F-D-PERCIVAL [Fred P.] at 07:10 EST The 5th key is in a distant room. How far have you pushed the rollerwall next to the 'Do Not Enter' room? Unlike Captive, sometimes you HAVE to push a rollerwall more than once here! - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 80 Mon Mar 02, 1992 K.BURKENHEIM [K.BURKENHEIM] at 23:36 EST I have gone all the way to the room "your eyes lie" and mapped it. I killed both serpents, used the light spell to see objects, gone into the room with visible walls and found 2 shelves with darts etc in them. I had "heard" that the second snake had the key, but if he did I have killed them several times and not found anything, the last time I led them outside of the area and killed them in a regular room. still no key!! - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 81 Tue Mar 03, 1992 F-D-PERCIVAL [Fred P.] at 07:19 EST There's a hallway and another room beyond the room full of false walls. From the doorway to the false wall room, go F,F,L,L,F,F,R,R to reach the exit door to this area. - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 82 Tue Mar 03, 1992 ST.REPORT [Ralph] at 07:51 EST Or, use the "remove" spell and the false wall become visible passage ways. I just got finished in the "swamp" in the Crown. Tons of Fun! - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 83 Tue Mar 03, 1992 DOUGWILLIAMS at 21:51 EST Wow..I played the whole game & didn't know what "remove" did. (Among other things) How about "catch"? Also still wondering about the Trilby. - Category 21, Topic 2 Message 84 Wed Mar 04, 1992 K.BURKENHEIM [K.BURKENHEIM] at 21:39 EST The trilby is a armor helmet--you can wear it!!! Thanks for the help. - Knightmare is based on a British television show of the same name. Both the manual and the game itself are filled with pictures of the two apparent stars...Treguard the Dungeon Master and Pickle the elf. The game player is assumed to be familiar with the show. Luckily the ignorance of American computer owners does not detract from the gameplay, which uses the Captive Game System and adds some refinements. Players of FTL's Dungeon Master will find recreations of a few of that game's structures, as the author of Knightmare pays his respects to the pioneers of the first-person dungeon game. There are six Professions in the game, three hacker-types and three magic user-types. Like Dungeon Master, you advance your characters by practicing with the tools of a given Profession. Cross-training characters is vital for two reasons. Advancement is fast at the lower levels, so you can build stats much faster by going up one grade in six different Professions than you can by going up six grades in one. It's also very handy to have at least two characters who are competent priests. If you have only one priest and that character gets poisoned, blinded, etc., you have a problem if no one else can help. The game has wands, staffs, and crosses as magical tools. Crosses are Priest tools, wands are Wizard tools, and Staffs are Genie tools. Priest functions are strictly health-related - the Priest is really the medic. Wizards get weapon-type spells pretty early on, as well as a couple of utility spells. Early on, the Genie's role is mostly defensive, although that changes as advancement occurs. Here are the basic tools for each magic type - users can eventually access six functions of each. Wand of Magic Open - Can remotely operate button doors. Used in some puzzles. Glow - Highlights objects which might otherwise be overlooked. Dart - The first offensive spell. Hits short opponents. Dispel - Your only weapon against ghosts. Cloud - Throws a packet of deadly smog at an opponent. Birds - Like Dart, but goes in high. Can be thrown through windows and portcullises. Cross of Aid Rem - Puts group into 'deep' sleep for rapid regeneration. Fitness - Ups Stamina Stat Restore - Ups Health Stat Aid - Repairs wounds too serious to regenerate. Cure - for poison See - Cures blindness Staff of Mystic Confuse - Works on opponent like a spinner. Remove - Turns False Walls into Fog Blocks. Shield - Affords some protection from attack damage Block - Affords some protection against magical attack Pow - Increases damage done by your swords Aim - Helps your combat accuracy Other magical tools come later in the game, and require more advanced skill levels for use. The maps and object list show solutions to most of the puzzles. Tips for some specific puzzles that are not obvious: Cup Quest Both the 'Mystic Door and the 'Nobody Must Enter' puzzles are both overcome by throwing objects through the transporters. Transporters conserve velocity, so the objects keep going when they appear at the destinations. Study the maps to see how this applies. Sword Quest 'Only Push the Right Ones' is such a tough puzzle that Crowther was apparently forced to bypass it after playtesting. The switch before the last iron lock opens up the back of the corridor behind the puzzle. Here's how to solve it, with the top of the map as north: 1. Push E14 North once. 2. Push D14 West once. 3. Push D13 North once. 4. Push C12 North twice. 5. Push D11 East once, then South once. 6. The Plate you access opens the inner door of two in the corridor. Push the 'hidden' button in E11 to remove a wall block. 7. Push B13 West once. The Plate you now see opens the outer corridor door, and it's scuffle time. 'Bread Trails Are Handy' can be solved methodically. Here is the solution (Right Forward Left Back): Walk straight in from the doorway into the transporter directly in front. Now step: R - F - R - B - R - B (get key) - L - F. To return: Walk straight in again, then step forward, then left. The map is only a best-guess as to how the room is really laid out. 'Hunt for Gold' - think of the fireballs as a belt, and the spinners as pulleys. You can trace the path of the fireballs around the room by tracing a line from spinner to spinner. You can dig for the apples in the swamp blocks, but you must be quick. Dig and then instantly step off the block to avoid sinking. Apples can be retrieved by using the boat. Be careful about digging in the swamp blocks under the Well. You can leave yourself cut off before you uncover the transporter in the corner! -Fred Percival GEnie: F-D-PERCIVAL @ Map A ~ Start What Where Does Balls C1 Clothes O7 Transporter f2 to Track area
