Brilliant and uses a method called tweening which allows you to simply draw the first and last screen and everything between, the computer does. My worry was that it might be a collection of technical articles on the various aspects of how to actually compose professional type music with the ST and therefore might be a bit too technical for me as I really don`t have the first clue about Midi and whatever other music forms there are. I was pleasantly surprised though with issue 1 which I found to be a good mixture of what I`d call normal diskmag bits and pieces and items on various aspects of music both ST and general.I`m positive that there is a large music market as regards the ST and I`m sure that your new diskmag will be very well received with the musically minded and also by the general diskmag fan who appreciates the " specialist " angle of the mag but can also find plenty to read in it of interest to them.Also reading about an area that you do not generally get involved with is a sure fire way to generate an interest in it.There are bound to be many people like myself,who definately do not regard themselves as musical experts,but are always keen to read and learn about other areas of ST use. Anyway,back to the point.Now that my eldest child is coming up 13,she is starting to buy CD`s and my own interest in music is coming back to me a bit.I have bought some of my old album favourites on CD to replace my scratchy old LP`s and also some of the new stuff which I like,such as Oasis and Supergrass.I have also then begun to pay more attention to what is available on TV as far as music shows go,just to get a bit more wised up on what music is out there.My problem is that there does not seem to be any kind of TV programme that caters for any kind of music other than what could be called potential chart music. Top of the Pops is still around of course and plays much the same bland rubbish that they have always done.The type of music that,what used to be called,teenyboppers buy.Those young girls that used to buy all of the 45 singles.There does not seem to be a show that plays music that strays from the comercially directed artists.There are several late night shows,mainly on channel 4,that have maybe 3 bands on as guests at some time during the show,but they are also the same bands that are shown on the chart type shows.Especially those that cover the various Indie,Rap,Hippop,and other specialised charts, nobody that you`ve never heard of before. Anyone who is around my own age will remember a show called The Old Grey Whistle Test,which gave many lesser known and less mainstream bands and individuals,a bit of TV airing.The presenter at the time that I first began to watch it was " Whispering " Bob Harris,who looked kind of like a privet hedge with teeth.Unfortunately he was replaced in around 1980 by Anne Nightingale who just looked like a privet hedge,and had much the same personality.Anyway,Mr Harris seemed to always have at least one artist on each show that you had just never heard of before,and if they were any use,you`d be asking all your mates the next day if they`d seen that cracking new band on the Whistle Test the night before.Needless to say most of these bands were never ever featured on other mainstream TV shows,unless they became successfull later.A prime example of this was around 1975/6ish,when he introduced a video of one Meat Loaf and Bat Out Of Hell.I was blown away by this,and hit the record shops the next day to attempt to find anything by the guy.Unfortunately there was as yet no records released in this country by Meat Loaf,but I ordered a copy of the single,which was You Took The Words Right Out Of My Mouth,and the album which was coming soon.Of course everyone knows how famous that particular album became. Other bands and individuals who were mainstays of this show and became personal favourites of mine were Devo,John Otway and Wild Willy Barrat,XTC,The Ramones,The Tubes,John Cooper Clark the Punk Poet, to name but a few.All of these people enjoyed a fair bit of album success,at least you didn`t have to look far to find the records, Woolies,John Menzies and other high street shops stocked them all,but they were never really featured on either TV or radio.Out of the 400 or so LP`s that are now packed up in my attic,I would reckon that maybe a third of them may have been shown or heard on mainstream media shows,the rest you either saw originally on the Whistle Test or you heard at a friends house.Nowadays I`d imagine that 80% or 90% of the average music collection would have been shown or heard on these same mainstream type TV or radio shows. To sort of sum up,I`d compare this to when you go to buy a loaf.If there is only one type of loaf there,you have to buy it if you want one.It`s only when you see several on the shelf and try them all that you can exercise your choice.TV and radio,mainly TV,gives the viewing public very little choice as far as music goes and there are probably many bands and individuals out there who would enjoy some success if only they had somewhere to showcase their talents.Likewise high street shops only seem to stock the stuff that is intended for chart success and you really have to go off the beaten track a bit if you want something slightly out of the ordinary,something which was not the case before.All in all I think young people are being short changed by TV chiefs who seem only to cater for those that want to buy the music that the Top of the Pops type shows want them to buy. The GEM desktop print file option assumes that files are text only, this makes it impossible to print output files from graphics mode word processors. EDIT TEXT : Text processor.
