A demo group that have survived the transition from ST to Falcon are ACF, who earned their place in history with classic demos like 'Just Buggin'. They are now working on the Falcon, and someone has given them a port on a Web server to create this site.

Antony is a dedicated Atari user who is most famous for his Stos creations, such as the Generic Stos Fixer. The pages contain a lot of information on Stos (he maintains the Stos mailing list), the Falcon, and the projects that he is currently working on.

Atari's Homepage contains a large amount of Jaguar related material, and information concerning their other projects and future developments. No particular information on TOS computers.

AEO is a popular American online magazine, produced by a large team of writers headed by editor Travis Guy. There are always vast amounts of news and reviews in each issue, from people that really know their stuff. Frans Keylard maintains the magazine's Web support page. Unfortunately, there hasn't been an issue of AEO for a while now, so the future of the magazine is unclear.

The unofficial Atari Internet pages, maintained by Mark Smith. A good range of FAQs and links are to be found at this site, mixed in with other useful material. The site is highly acclaimed by most Atari comms enthusiasts.

AtariPhile is the excellent bi-monthly magazine from the Falcon FacTT File membership club that has replaced their previous publication. Because the magazine is produced in HTML format, they were able to put it onto the Web aswell. There are a great number of reviews and news items in each issue.

Originally known as Axxis when they first started out on the ST, Aura are still with us today. They are currently working on the Falcon, using their great skills on that machine as they did on the ST with demos such as 'High Fidelity Dreams'. Information about the group and their productions can be found on their homepage.

This page contains the latest information about the internet-based project to create a WAD compatible Doom clone for the Atari Falcon. The game is making great progress, and at the time of writing it has moved on from Beta to Alpha releases. For all the latest news you must look up this page, which is regularly updated. You can also join the mailing list or download the latest pre-release version of the game.

Computer Direct are Canadian Atari specialists, who sell a wide range of Atari products. While their Web site contains lots of information, thGIF89a {{{_`a]Y__NB@D>36;26;/38-39,29+29!*3 !##'",!)&6!, Hbm=JE "i6IK wl* 9HʅVUd,X2#; Atari Net Locator - Shareware Support

Usenet Newsgroups

The are two possible methods of access to newsgroups from this page. Users of NetScape can use the following links to directly view the newsgroups. Those using other software should see below for an alternative suggestion.

NetScape Links

comp.sys.atari.st
Newsgroup for discussion of general ST related topics.

comp.sys.atari.st.tech
Technical newsgroup for Atari users.

comp.sys.atari.programmer
A group for all programming languages used on the Atari.

comp.sys.atari.advocacy
Strangely enough, a group for arguing with PC owners about the pros and cons of the Atari platform!

comp.sys.atari.announce
Press releases about new products, etc. I think this group is moderated, so don't think that it'll be a quick route to fame :-).

demon.ip.support.atari
Demon Internet's Atari support newsgroup.

NOTE: It is advised to read the newsgroup's FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) before posting. There is a huge FAQ Index on the Web.

Alternative Method

If you are not using NetScape, you can only send messages to newsgroups using a mail-to-news gateway, such as the Demon dispatch service. The links below will allow you to submit using the Demon gateway.

Don't forget to ask for replies via email if you don't actually have Usenet access.

A pB'pppppppp}'pppppppp}`'pppppppppB?&qH1 'ppppnpppp'p0ppppppp'ppppIpppp? >!\' Y' 8ey could certainly do a better job on presentation. A large section on the site is the full online version of their product guide - they certainly have a good amount of hardware and software.

The CyberSTrider support scheme now accepts registrations for many quality shareware titles, and is run by Denesh Bhabuta. This page contains all the information about the scheme and the software that it supports.

Some new pages put up by Digital Media, the new UK distributors of C-Lab Falcons. Includes sales info on Falcon MkX, Soundpool audio, midi expanders, software etc. Nicely laid out pages but a bit bare as yet.

This site is now slightly infamous among the Atari community, as dear old Edward was the person who wrote to the Atari World team and demanded that he should be allowed to write a Lynx column for the magazine. He also managed to squeeze into the letter a plug for this Web site, which is well put together. A good source of news for Lynx enthusiasts. Designed for Netscape 1.2N and above.

Hensa is the main Internet resource for the higher education community, providing a massive range of software for all micro computers which is even available non-higher education users. Denesh Bhabuta, who runs the 'CyberSTrider' shareware scheme, currently looks after the Atari section, which is the place to visit for many great titles. Access to this site is only possible between 20:00 and 08:00 GMT.

Alternative Form Posting Method

Although there are response forms used in this site, many of you will be using the Crystal Atari Browser, which at the time of writing does not support the posting of forms.

In acknowledgement of this, we have provided the file Forms.Zip, which is a Zip archive containing text (ascii) versions of all the response forms and the registration form.

Users of the Crystal Atari Browser should follow these simple steps in order to get the forms posted...

Step 1 - Download Forms.Zip (using the above link) - CAB should give you the file selector so you can save it to disk.

Step 2 - Finish your internet session and then load the Forms.Zip file into your copy of STZip.

Step 3 - Extract all of the files in the archive (there is one file for each form) onto your hard or floppy disk, along with the read.me file.

Step 4 - Once all the files are extracted, leave STZip and load a text editor.

Step 5 - Read the read.me and then fill out the forms that you wish to.

Step 6 - Then the completed forms need to be sent. To do this you should paste them into an email (addressed to: skynet@fffnet.demon.co.uk). They may not be UUencoded, even if you have the software to do this.

Alternatively, the forms can be posted in our local message echo on 42BBS (see the Introduction page for more information).

Just about everything that ST Format can't fit onto their coverdisk goes into their FTP archive. A good place to go for a good mix of software, from PD games to top shareware applications.

FTP is certainly the quickest way for users to download files from Hensa, although newcomers may need to get to gripps with the directory system first. The only restrictions are time (8pm - 8am), and you're only allowed 10 lo. `.. *`IA_ABOUTGIF v`IA_ADRESGIF `IA_MINI GIF 9`IA_REG GIF `!IA_SLISTGIF `gins per night. Those who haven't used the Hensa site before should go for the Web Site, or try subscribing to the Newsletters (see Email links page) to get to grips with things before accessing via FTP.

Direct FTP downloads

The following files are available by anonymus FTP from ftp.uni-kl.de in Germany. The only software listed at the moment is the most popular Atari disk magazines, although we will include links for other files, such as internet software, in the near future.

Disk Magazines

This is the latest issue of the only British magazine which is part of the Magnetic Interlude union. Issue nineteen is the second Falcon enhanced version, and features an excellent shell programmed by Mr Pink of the Reservoir Gods coding team. Excellent reading content including all the juicy bits from the recent Maggie 5th birthday party (featuring a lot of myself in the realtime article!).

Sadly there will only be one further issue of ST News after the current issue (10.2). ="AdrName"> Category: Old Address: New Address:

It is then sad that this magazine is going to end after just one further issue. Issues 10.2, however, contains a good range of news and reviews and the introduction of a few new regulars which will now be rather short-lived. ST News is also part of the Magnetic Interlude union.

Indeed my own disk magazine, the current issue being issue seven. Issue eight is on it's way soon. Although the magazine didn't get off to a great start, this issue seems to have much more acclaim. It's not for me to comment on the greatness of my own publication, so I'll just say download it and take a look.

  • Impulse Homepage
The enjoyment factor of your visit to the homepage of Falcon demo coders Impulse will surely depend on your connection speed. Firstly, the page's background image is an outrageous 50k in size, and the main logo is about half that again. The images are worth the wait though, unless you're simply seeking raw information, in which case I recommend you turn images off. The usuals of a demo group site are to be found, amounting to not much more than group information, and in this case, a million and one ways to contact them.

This Jaguar specific page is maintained by ST Format magazine's resident Comms expert Frank Charlton. Introduction

I hope you like what you have seen so far of the June '96 update of this site, which is geared towards providing an index of Atari resources on the Internet. The Internet was, up until recently, largely inaccessible to Atari users. I am pleased with the amazing advances in Internet software for the Atari platform, which has meant that there is now a thriving community of Atarians on the Internet.

Of course, more Atari users on the Internet means more resources available on the Net for their use. The purpose of the site is to give users access to these resources that are difficult to find out about otherwise. Search engines can be used, but then you get a very mixed bunch as far as quality is concerned. We aim to list the best Atari related sites and resources.

  • Falcon Update Digital Issue 9 - 1429k Zip Archive
Falcon Update is the official magazine of the Falcon Owners Group UK. Earlier issues were printed, but the more recent issues have been disk-based, hence the name 'Update Digital'. A good range of content and free software come bundled with each issue. Sadly, the group is now slowly fading into non-existance.

42BBS is the support BBS for this site, on which we have our own area (option 'U' from the main menu). The latest update of the site is available for download, and there is a message area for discussion related to the site. The number to dial is (UK)+(0)1256 895106, and all speeds up to 28,800bps are supported. It is also the official support BBS for the InterActive and CyberSTrider supported software schemes. Contact the Sysop, Colin Fisher-McAllum, for more details.

Sadly, the Crystal Atari Browser, the only eligable Web browser for the Atari, currently does not support two of the main features that PC/Mac owners take for granted these days. Those features being the ability to post mail (both forms and mailto: links), and the ability to connect to FTP sites. However, this site does use those features, as responses from the previous update show that many visitors to this site have been using PC browsers such as Netscape.

    The main pages that make use of these extra features are the Email links page, and FTP links/downloads pGIF87aUd+UUUwww333fff"""DDD,Ud0,HKz# (.IJ0W{<*ΰ˷XeRCT($^;cfzȼQYeC2$3^!JcZV\b5_S 982n>l)k2LkqKQ 1G/<[`]#5a^9m?.C~I.[ .gD@]#Ţm2[hu(qrJ)$,,i:`|Ƨ[n&'HEU)>V98@%)%]"V TIEqKfYA:fihVhMA@u(VFvQ1n0֩u"j $%t6DQp uޫvd?rfR[;4-i.CrX4 t6 aR[%@?Iu/1aCNkVdw5myXK;¶3SvIŵ b%@|lcvA )*OZt-[pW*!Ω-mM4Tt~67-;!>MQ,â DPj iXjE2pH{+2 :avQ (s" ,Tl6l u2Yz4Ƅ>8P-w $l#UCEw:_S a)j3Z]>`nL2)UC]M=Zeף!> K0BTEZ\%&eL(mxDpht %*jn< *B]ж>[2 LaL PѫQ MV[C'RB7C0Y: H@7'l*j`K:jrZO0/BAS%ʈJDEZaMp\OiK>Pt[1YUK1_@|䥘!3J{ڐ5FuF:.CݠVC.ᧆ$W6j#Ĥ$4N.jH;ң|R`cY|a_4W!h- _pNE,r1otWPRJltYax "i4*5M8~4Ǎe/A4A c8zf*Cv*֚exHOP'fy=QUZtpyB9'}o&49(*pʀgK"S{XV>hhA R~jp]\C- Gՠm<H#=IτE%8-g!o."Fa*Ѝ,kqЏKBM(l~3*'M1o&FGFto ecB%gwIGKnA8t~)9(wXה5fJ pX*\K( i\yZ=&dJcCY/P#`_157urtc= ƈ̨fZZ$"dl,s CG&X ,Cf57 5ӇU S"Lʼn Pݏz#c.vk}yBBpL+W m0DԪPЕ 9^='uWwal5VVV+D<k2fsxC'r`ZÒLhqaG` < ~f5z:byd&"lw6Œ 2vr0PrG"t2-` `հ~(xIe5`7)$ 3Wv0u`Go8W_@C/uh6/A~"W7%U^v?u 1Z(AWJTT&< 57p qQq"`LA0s+'|3tPs^x*g[f#;~5u`#;GIF87aUd+UUUwww333fff"""DDD,Ud)bHċA,K̨#u'q.HL"q'Q0HZ,3&% 1`kbP02ǟfAъƳ6 `.72bN}FG15SDBc? Faces behind the site

    From left to right;

Myself - Yes, it's me - developer of this site and insane youth! When not working on this I am editor of Skynet Times disk magazine, and I also write for other publications, such as the ever-popular 'Maggie'. The odd bit of Stos or Assembly programming gets done when I find the time.

    skynet@fffnet.demon.co.uk

Richard Davey - Rich is responsible for much of the graphics in this site, which were cleverly produced on his Pentium powerhouse. He works for Compuserve, and he and his pals also create software under the name 'Villaage. Users of CAB are able to use the right mouse-button to see where the links take you, so email addresses and FTP sites can be noted down and then accessed using suitable email/FTP clients, such as Oasis 2.

For now we can be hopeful that CAB will incorporate these extra features in future versions, to give Atari owners a complete Web solution.

    InterActive Supported Software Scheme

    About the scheme

The supported Shareware scheme was started by Joe Connor in 1993 to encourage authors to produce and support English language versions of their software AND to encourage UK users to register 'foreign' software. Recently the scheme was re-launched as InterActive. With currently over 1200 registrations the scheme has established the proven benefits of local support, which include:

    • Key to remove features reserved for registered users available
    • Local telephone, post and Email support
    • Free update service
    • No hassle handling foreign currency
    • Labelled Master disk and registration letter
    • ST-Guide on-line hypertext help (some software)
    • Other software (dependent on disk space)

Rehttp://www.magicnet.net/~yak/ http://www.ereal.com/eds/ ional Web page designer, which has recently been revamped and improved.

  • Spaced-out farmer Jeff Minter (or the 'Yak' as he's commonly known), is one of the Atari's pioneers in game creation. He has found spare time in between sheep sheering to program such masterpieces as 'Revenge of the Mutant Camels' and more recently 'Llamazap' for the Falcon. Upon connecting to his homepage you are greeted with the message 'Welcome to my Zoo'. I say no more.

Magnetic Interlude is the name given to the union between disk magazines Maggie, DBA Magazine and ST News. These are probably the three most popular Atari disk magazines, but sadly ST News is approaching its final issue, so there will soon only be two titles in the union. Their slowly evolving Web site is maintained by Slihttp://www.netkonect.net/tachyon/atari/jaguar/jaguar.html The Jaguar Web Domain. The Interview Spot

    First Up:-
    Colin Fisher-McAllum
42BBS Sysop and Falcon FacTT File founder...

Firstly Colin, what inspired you to start a BBS in the first place?

    I'm a Commaholic...

Kev Beardsworth and I often said it'd be a nice extra service to add to the Falcon FacTT File. One day he sent me an 80Mb hard drive, his old STfm and said 'go on then'.

The work and expense that goes into setting up a BBS has surprised me. I wanted it to be a good BBS so I put in a lot of time and money. The system now runs on a Falcon, has nearly 1Gb of hard disk space and is linked to a 28,800 modem. I'll add a CD some day, but for now I'm skint :-(

At 42BBS I try to offer individual services that are not available at other sites. Obviously there is the FFF area, but I was lucky that Kev [Co-SysOp] is a pal of Joe Connor so we became the official InterActive support site. Denesh Bhabuta [CyberSTrider] soon followed.

What is the reason for your attraction to Douglas Adams' books?

Not all his books, only the Hitchhiker trilogy... 'in four parts'!!! I couldn't get into Dirk Gently. From the first Radio 4 adaption I was hooked on THGTTG. The analogy of Arthur's cottage being demolished to make way for a new road and that of Planet Earth's fate at the hands of the Vogon Destructor Fleet grabbed me. The concept of the answer to Life, The Universe and Everything being '42' is brill... especially as that answer was wrong!

What do you particularly like about the Octopus BBS software?

Quite simply, I like it's flexibility. It has it's own script language - a bit like C - it makes it possible to have the system I want. It also has the advantage of being constantly updated and it's Falcon enhanced.

What made you want to start the Falcon FacTT File?

I wanted to have contact with other Falcon users.

One day I saw William Hurn's suggestion in his Desktop Discussion column [sadly this column has been dropped] in ST Applications that a Falcon register, [like his old ST Register] be started. I wrote to him and he put me in contact with Kev [who had also written] and Roger Derry, who had offered his shareware address manager, NameNet. We've been good mates ever since and I've made many other friends via the FFF so I guess it's working.

Why did you choose to support the Atari with 42BBS, rather than other platforms?

That's simple... I only have Atari computers! Also, like the other people who still own an Atari, I'm an enthusiast as well as being little eccentric.

With being the Sysop of one of the most popular Atari bulletin boards and running the Falcon FacTT File, you have a great involvement in the Atari scene today. Are you happy with the way the Atari is going these days? (eg. the move from games to more serious software)

The quality of the 'serious' software now available, especially for the Falcon, is outstanding. There always seems to be at least three items on my 'must buy' list so support for us Atarians is not altogether dead.

The strange thing is, I used to be one of those arrogant SOBs that said their computer was only used for serious computing. However I now enjoy many of the new games for the Falcon [Platonix, Confusion etc]. Second childhood maybe?

What kind of software would you like to see produced in the future for the Atari?

I really want Papyrus to get a Thesaurus. I guess I'm not imaginative enough to say what new products I would like... I just know I want them when they are available. We are rather lucky that the quality of software now available is so good.

As the ST is becoming more and more a thing of the past, and everyone is getting Falcons; Do you think that programmers should stop restricting the quality of their programs just to keep ST compability?

The obvious answer is yes. How many new PC programs will run on a 286? However, without the ST owners the Atari market will die, so I must rephrase that first answer to, 'Yes... in a perfect world!' Not all ST owners are getting Falcons so a Falcon Only market is rather restricted.

How many pints did Ford Prefect order in the Pub one Thursday lunchtime?

Six, three each for himself and Arthur Dent. They needed a muscle relaxant to make their escape from Earth via matter transferance more comfortable. Alcohol is a good muscle relaxant... ever heard of brewers droop ;-)

What would be your idea of the ultimate message echo (be imaginative!)?

    N.CONGRATULATIONS.COLIN.BIGTIME.LOTTERY_WINNER

Summarise your personality in exactly 13 syllables :-)

    Floccinaucinihilipilificational !!!

Do you think it is better that C-Lab have taken over development of the Falcon, rather than having Atari Corp's poor management?

There never was anything wrong with Atari Corp's development department, it's their marketing that let them down. C-Lab have started to produce a range of general interest Falcons and they are adverting. I wish them well for the future. Don't forget other TOS computers like the Medusa and Egale for the real top-end users.

And finally, what are your plans for the future of 42BBS?

I want to expand the diskzine area of 42BBS. By the time this is published I expect to have sections for Maggie and DBA alongside the already established Skynet Times area. Each with their own menus leading to relevant Files, Info and News items.

Not everyone has access to the Web, but the number of Atarians online is growing. I'd therefore like to develop the HTML file area where established www sites may make their pages available for download.

Apart from that, I have one or two very exciting plans up my sleeve that I cannot say anything about at the moment. Let's just say that 42BBS is not only the place to be... it's the place to stay!

NPG are one of the many groups who formed especially to write demos for the Falcon. There is a surprising amount of material on their site, including general group information, and a memberlist. There is also a list detailing all productions that they have released.

Simon's pages bring a good all-round range of Atari related information, including specialities concerning Linux 68k, the Falcon030, and a lot on the Doom clone 'Bad-Mood', including a link to download the title tune. Another essential for those with a passion for Ataris.

Along with Future Publishing's 30-plus other magazines, STF has a support page on one of Britain's leading Internet sites. Large portions of the magazine are available to read online, and you can also email the editorial team or take out a subscription to the magazine.

Talented programmer Stuart is responsible for producing quality shareware titles for the Atari. His most famous creations are Triple Yahoo (Yahtzee clone), and the Speed of Light image processor which is the prime choice GIF viewing tool for the ST. Those programs are available for download from the site, and there is information about other titles currently under development.

This is a beautifully presented site, although it is rather static and doesn't contain any news or many links. There is a wealth of information on such things as all Atari machines and some employees. You can also obtain logos directly from the site. A rich source of information on the company, but sadly not a lot else.

Toad are the largest Atari dealers in the US, and also promote their products here in the UK. The presentation of the site is breathtaking, and details on their products are very comprehensive. After browsing through all of their specific pages for the Jaguar, Lynx, ST series and Portfolio, you can read company details, the news page, or even request a copy of their catalogue.

This site is the best site for the Atari Jaguar, and contains plenty of information to keep Jaguar owners occupied for ages. There are lists of software/hardware available and under development, screen shots from Jag games, and various technical details. The site also sports a top ten games page and links to other Jaguar related sites.

The western regions of Scotland are now faithfully served by a thriving Atari group which was founded after the Atari World shows in December '95. The club publishes regular newsletters, and is supported on 42BBS, as is this site. They were recently donated some Web space to set up this excellent homepage.

    Coming soon... The tackboard

Frank Charlton is currently working on commercial Web pages for the popular Atari software library Floppyshop. The date that the pages will be available has not yet confirmed, but I will certainly list them as soon as Frank sends notification. Frank can be contacted at frank@support.tachyon.co.uk.

Another interesting piece of news was recieved from Brian Stanton of Titan Designs, concerning a Titan Web site that is currently under development. I believe the site will contain information about Black Scorpion Software aswell, and it will be 'Atari friendly', meaning CAB compatible I suppose. Titan can be contacted at 100345.2350@compuserve.com.

t> gistration fees are set to cover the currency handling, stationary, media and postage costs incurred in mailing out master disks and providing support.

Although primarily a UK support scheme everyone is welcome to register via InterActive as an alternative to registering directly with the author(s).
