He finishes and thou gives him thy gold, hoping that the Shield dost indeed do what Oldorf claims it to do. Aftferall, thou hast no way to test it.Thou dost then leave the workshop and so returns to the Pub... wxyz{|}~ǛStrength: Measures brute physical strength. It determines how much weight thou can carry, and how great a weapon thou can use. It also dictates how much damage one of thy blows wilt do to an opponent.Constitution: A measure of health and endurance; general physical fitness. The higher thy Constitution, the further thou can run before falling, and the more wounds thou can sustain before dying.Dexterity: This grants speed and cleverness and measures coordination and even eyesight. Someone with high Dexterity has an edge in weapon use; he's more likely to hit what he was aiming at and is better at avoiding being hit.Intelligence: This is connected with the ability to work magic, assuming that thy profession allows it. Another major function of this attribute is its affect on thy ability to bargain with shopkeepers.Intuition: A measure of spatial perception, awareness, ESP,G and Luck. Drawing closer, thou sees a large wooden doorway. This is the Grand Entrance to the infamous Dungeon of Zenobia. The groan of unused hinges is heard as thou pulls the massive door open. Shielding thy face with great caution, thou slips inside. The door slams solidly without a trace, leaving thee sealed inside. As the echoes C(slowly fade away, thou ventures onward., The air is heavy and still, and the thick dust muffles thy footsteps. Unbroken strands of cobwebs art seen woven from wall to wall. The rubble scattered upon the floor is barely disturbed, since only a few, the9 very brave or very foolish, have dared to venture here.= Thou descends further, amongst the crumbling gray mortar and rotting wooden planks. Tiny footstes art heard as thou feels something brushing thy leg and scurrying across the stained cobbles. Signs of past habitation abound these walls: dust of grotesquesly broken bones, blood and sweat of tortures, as well as the ever present sense of death. The thought of turning back to the bright sun of day enters thy mind, but thou remembers the tales of fame, fortune, and adventure, and so, with a new resolve, stride down the broken passage never once looking back.Upon closer examination, a shock runs through thy body. Each character reflects the personality of the creator, and more importantly, your citizen's ability to survivGe the many hazards he will be facing.First, you must enter the profession of your citizen. A brief summary of the characterisEEtics of each profession is below:Fighter: Very strong and aggressive. Under normal normal conditions they lack any magical ability. Fighters obviously are the best suited to enter the fighting arena. They are able to wear all armors and wield all weapons.Barbarian: Very strong, almost as good in the arena as the fighter is. Some steal and disarm traps. Also note that they are able to wear all armors and wield all weapons.Thief: Fairly strong, and very sneaky. They're well suited for stealing and are noted for their keen senses. Thieves are limited to the short sword and splint mail armor.Cleric: Although not noted for their strength, they're known far and wide for their expertise in Mage Spells. Clerics are not able to use anything greater than a hand axe or ring mail armor.Wizard: Not noted for their strength, and certainly not for their fighting style, wizards are infamous for their high degree of training and unmatched expertise in the field of Sorcery. (Limited to the flail and studded leather)Paladin: Although not notably strong, they possess a well balance between clerical magic, strength, and fighting ability. They're able to wield all weapons, although they cannot wear anything greater than chain mail.Illusionist: A fairly keen ability to cast clerical spells. Some have been seen using misdirection and magic to steal. (Limited to the halberd and splint mail armor)Druid: Able to cast a high degree of mage spells AND clerical spells. Not noted for their fighting ability, with the use of magic, they are able to get around this. Druids are known for a high rate of recovery and their excellent use of magic. (Limited to using the quarter staff, although druids can wear all armor)Alchemist: Possess a fairly high ability of sorcery as well as keen senses and the ability to steal. They are limited to the glaive and splint mail armor.Ranger: Known for a balance between fighting ability, their foresting skills, and magical ability. They're able to cast both clerical and mage spells, although not with any notably impressive skill. (Limited to the fauchard and scale mail armor)Only the Wizard and ClericG will give you the full magical abilities (given that your other attributes will allow it) Illusionists, Paladins, etc. have as much as half of the full magical skills. The better your magic skills, the more likely a spell will be successful. You must realize that your ability to successfully cast a spell is determined by a combination of magical ability and intelligence. If your profession's magical ability is low and you have a low intelligence, you will be able to buy the spells at the magic shoppe, but (without special help) the chances of them working are slim.Note that most professions are limited in what weapons they may use and what armor they may wear. Only the items that they are able to use will be shown to you. Anything else will be unavailable to your citizen.AttributesThere are five basic attributes (three physical and two mental) used to give a distinctive character to a citizen. Each attribute is rated numerically from a low 5 to an average of 12-16, to a high 20. The higher the number, the greater/higher/stronger the attribute. You will be given 60 points to divide among the 5 attributes. No less than 5 and no more than 20 may be assigned to any single attribute.Strength: Measures how physically strong your citizen is. It determines how much weight he can carry, and how great a weapon he can use. It also controls how much damage one of his blows will do to an opponent.Constitution: A measure of health and endurance; general physical fitness. The higher your Constitution, the farther your citizen can run before falling, and the more wounds he can sustain before dying.Dexterity: This grants you speed and cleverness and measures coordination and even eyesight. Someone with high Dexterity has an edge in weapon use; he's more likely to hit what he was aiming at and is better at avoiding being hit. A high dexterity may be nearly as effective as a strong armor.Intelligence: This is connected with your profession's magical ability to determine your magical success. The higher your ability and intelligence, the better you will be able to work magic. Another major function of this attribute is its affect on your citizen's ability to bargain with shopkeepers. A good bargainer has many advantages!Intuition: A measure of your Gspatial perception, awareness, ESP, fortune, and Luck. Someone with high intuition is more likely to detect secret doors, traps, treasures, and other surprises. At times, it lends itself to detecting the presence of what's not readily apparent. Someone with a low intuition would be lucky to find an open doorway without a signpost.Notes:All three physical attributes may sway your choice of equipment. Generally, the bigger, heavier, and more costly an item, the more effective will be, although heavier equipment is more tiring to wear/use/carry. A larger weapon is capable of doing more damage than a smaller one, but it takes more strength to use; a citizen with a low strength will be restricted to the lighter items. It's important to know that all attPributes mature naturally with experience, and/or the gaining of special items.: ǛThe Dungeon of Zenobia! There are many hazards in the dungeon. Simply entering the Grand Entrance is a danger in itself. You may not be able to find it or the exit, and may be stuck in the winding caverns until your death! Once you enter, you've taken the plunge and have to find your own way out. There's more to the dungeon besides just the danger of it. There are many treasures that lie within the stone walls. If you can find them, they're yours. Assuming that you can find your way from the dungeon, you may cash in any and all treasures that you find for gold. There's also a lot of other things you can find; some that may help you in other adventures..others that may kill you! So be careful...Movement: There are four commands that allow you to move from one room to another. They are simply [N]orth, [S]outh, [E]ast and [W]est. It is important to note that each move takes up a certain amount of fatigue (See help on YOUR STATS)Torches: Magical winds howl down each corridor, blowing out all natural light. You must carry a lit torch to help you see your way around. Without light, you won't be able to see treasures, and you'll most certainly have a hard time finding any other items, not to mention your way around.Lanterns: Lanterns are anotGher means of lighting your path through the winding caverns. They tend to last quite a bit longer than torches do, although they generally cost more.Traps: A trap may come in any one of a number of forms ranging from a hidden dart flying out of treasure chest to a pit dug in the floor. They can be in any room, and may or may not be tripped by your clumsiness. Be careful, some can kill you!Trap disarmers: You may find it advantages to carry a supply of disarmers with you when entering the dungeon. Although they don't always work, they generally do keep you from tripping over a trap and injuring yourself. Remember, your ability to use a disarmer well is dependant upon your attributes. A high dexterity and intuition will make you a better disarmer.ǛDoors, keys, and lockpicks: There will most likely be a time in the dungeon where you will come across a doorway. Of course, if this were to happen you would have to hope that you had something to get beyond that door. If you aren't so fortunate to have a key, you may find a lockpick handy. Your ability to pick locks is dependant upon your intuitive quality.Rummaging: It is a good idea to do a search of your new surroundings. You may find something that wasn't readily apparent at first. This could range from a treasure, to a secret door, to even a hidden trap.Remember that your observational ability is determined by your intuition. With a low intuition, you're lucky to find the floor! This quality is certainly important in the dungeon.Healing: Salves, elixers, and nectars all can be bought at the healshop and do indeed serve you well.Treasures: Any treasure that you find can later be cashed in for gold or jewels at the Thieves's Guild. Of course, you have to find your way out to sell anything!Remember that you must find an exit from the dungeon to be returned to the surface. If you decide to quit, you will retYurn where you left upon returning to Zenobia. Of course, you can always kill yourself...]Well, instead of telling you everytmhing that's in the dungeon, I'll let you go and wander aroundst one I read! +]93The Shadow Krishna Cetering Sig List.... I know how to center, I'll fix things up. Q]Lou Trapani Krishna ndition are also kept:Fatigue: Your fatigue rating simply shows how much energy you have spent. Exceptional exertion results in you getting exhausted. Remember though, that the rate at which you tire depends on your attributes. Walking around normally and doing things that don't take much energy generally allows you to take a rest, while activities like running, fighting, and carrying heavy loads all cost energy. If you get totally exhausted (Fatigue is equal to or greater than 100%) you will fall on the floor and pant. You won't be able to attack anything, or move until you have recovered. This could be a dangerous time for you (if in combat, especially)While you cannot accumulate more energy than you started with, you can regain previously spent energy in a number of ways. The fastest is to drink nectar (if you have any). Next is to slow down your activities until you finally gain back some energy. Of course, this can be dangerous. It is, perhaps, relevant to note that fighting for your life with a sword and shield is, naturally, even more strenuous than running. If you (that is to say, your citizen) are of average strength and are burdened down with heavy equipment (to say nothing of the sacks of treasure you're looking for) you may soon get so tired you can no longer defend yourself!Wounds: Any time you are attacked, there is a chance that your armor will be penetrated and you will be wounded. Your wound percentage is a running total of how much damage you have taken. This is the percentage of you that have been wounded. You may heal yourself at any time by applying a healing salve or drinking an elixer or by visiting the healshop or one of the many other places where healing methods are found. If your wound percentage reaches 100% then you will be dead. However, there are several chances that you will be "Raised from the Dead."Getting yourself ResurrectedIf all of a sudden, you find yourself dead, don't panic. All may not be lost. After all, you are not the only person in the World of Zenobia, and the chances of some kind soul may come across your body, and do his hardest to try to get you rGesurrected. If you should die by a monster attack, chances are that it will eat you, but this is not always the case. But then!, if your body does survive, then you may very well be found and brought back to life; however, it is likely that anyone so kind as to to all the trouble would most likely want something in return.Alternatively, you could always buy a resurrection spell at the Emporium before you die. If you were smart enough to do this, then immediately after you are killed, you will once again regain life... weaker than before, but alive and carrying everything that you had. Of course, your character may not have the magical ability to successfully cast the spell. If your citizen is not magical, the chances of this spell working are very slim.Food: Don't forget to watch your supply of rations. Everything you do takes time, and with time, food is used. If you run out of food, you will starve and die. Food can be obtained in the Grocery found in the Market Square. If you are so lucky as t)o find rations, by all means use them.>*+,-./0123456789:;<=>?@ABCDEFǛThe once tiny Zenobia has grown into a towne of some size, as adventurers from all over the lands have been drawn by tales -- mostly inaccurate and exaggerated -- of the wealth to be found in the forest just outside the city gates. The monsters that dwell within the dark forest consitute the primary hazard to your citizen's life. Monsters vary enormously in size, speed, hostility, and destructiveness. Some may be slain by a single slash of the dagger; others may be impervious to all but the most potent magical weaponry. In many cases, you may have to fight a monster to survive, but there are times when discretion is, indeed, the part of valor. Some of the monsters will always be found in the same place in the forest. They have made their homes there and will not leave them. Others, however, wander around in search for food. Wandering monsters may appear anywhere at any time, and follow you around the forest until you either lose them, or slay them. There have been many adventures that have been killGed in these forests. The gold and treasure that they found and left still remains. Traditionally, the creatures of the forest 3have been attracted to the shiny gold pieces, and can often be found guarding many a cache. Slaying these creatures usually leads to finding and recovering this lost gold.Slain adventures leave much to the forest. There can be found gold, diamonds, saphires, rubies, and riches of all kinds here. One just has to look to find. The hardest part is not finding the treasure, but living to tell about your journeys!Once in the forest, the only way out is to find a suitable path back to the gates of the city. Having a map in this instance sure is a handy thing. It is rumored that many incomplete maps are available - for a price. The forest dwellers are known to have more than a few maps complete. Of course, to get one of these maps, you must find a friendly forest dweller with an interest to sell! The forest dwellers are more commonly called Fuzzies, for they are almost always completely covered with fur. Although only 3 feet tall on the average, a Fuzzy is extremely sneaky, and won't hesitate to play a practical joke on you. They're not too dangerous though, if you laugh at their jokes. Many fuzzies have opened up supply huts in the forest; especially suited for the adventurer. Rumors say that their supplies are stolen, but at their low prices, who cares? You may meet other adventures in the forest, but be wary, for not all of them will be friendly. It seems that they don't like others treading on their turf - kinda makes the odds of riches just a little lower. You should be warned about the dreaded swamp lands of the forest. Some of the more deadly creatures live in the swamps, for the land is very fertile there. At the same time, though, many past adventures have been killed near here, and so, have left quite a lot of treasures and whatnot.Almost every adventurer has heard the rumor that there is a secret entrance to the dungeon lying somewhere in the forest, although no one has lived to verify this. The lost doorways supposedly lead to a hidden part of the dungeon that holds the most valuable of treasures. Many an adventure are still in search of these ancient doors and the treasures to which they'll lead. All in alGl, entering the forest can be one of the quickest paths to riches - or death. The forest contains an incredible amount of treasEure, as well as some of the more dangerous obstacles an adventurer will find. You will have to weigh the situation wisely. It Zis highly suggested that you be well-equipped before treading upon these forsaken lands.qHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ[\]^_`abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyǛThe Combat System in ZenobiaYou will soon find that combat tends to be a frequent occurrence. The combat system of Zenobia is designed to mirror, with some degree of fidelity, the nature of medieval combat. Hundreds of things might happen in a battle: your weapon might break; you might slip in a puddle of blood or trip over a fallen body; a shield might splinter; you might put an arrow right into the eye socket of an otherwise nearly invulnerable beast. However, systems which attempt to allow for a huge number of possibilities are tedious at best and, because they almost necessarily overemphasize such unusual occurrences, are statistically as inaccurate as simpler systems. Many hours have gone into designing a system which, while simpler than some, is as accurate as any and far more authentic than most. Although you cannot, in Zenobia, succeed in chopping your own leg off (which a particularly clumsy person might in fact manage), a great many variables of equipment, strength, coordination, skill, practice, etc. are involved in determining the outcome of any particular battle. The combat found in the World is indeed involved in a great number of complexities. The Arena:The arena is where you will be able to challenge other citizens to the death! The entrance is in found in on the main streets of the city. Upon entering, you will have a selection of various options available to you:[O] Outcomes: This list is direct from the town crier and lists the recent outcomes of any challenges. Only the last 25 fights will be shown.[S] Scan: Lists users that you will be able to fight. Only those citizens that are eligible will be shown here. The criteria for fight eligibility:Citizen must be alive. The citizen must have entered the city at least onGce to choose his profession and attributes.Citizen cannot be in the dungeon or forest, for if he is, you must go in and look fWor him. If you find him, only then can you fight him.If the citizen has taken up lodging, you must be experienced enough to draw him out, otherwise you can't fight him. Also, note that you will not be allowed to challenge citizens that you out-experience by more than eight levels. You'll have to pick on someone your own size.[P] Program Thyself: While you're away from the city, other citizens may challenge you to enter the fighting pit. If this happens, the computer will fight for you. Use this option to customize your fighting style so that the computer will just how you want him to fight.[M] Mercenaries: A famous fighter named Artos has opened up a shop within the Arena. Artos allows you to look over his mercenaries and hire any of them to attack other citizens. Having a citizen attacked by a mercenary is an easy way of wounding or killing them without putting yourself in danger. In addition to getting the satisfaction of having your victim attacked, all winning mercenaries will search the body of their body for valuables and return them to you. Of course, hiring a successful mercenary is very advantagous. Artos realizes this, and so charges a hefty price for his services.[F] Fight Pit: This option allows you to select whom you want to take to the fight pit. Only eligible citizens and outsiders from other lands will be accepted.[A] Arena Fight: Choose this option to challenge another citizen to the Fighting Arena. The other commands are your standard commands that are found throughout the World of Zenobia. You are only allowed to fight twice per day, and once per call. This counter is reset at midnight of each day. This was done to prevent very experienced people from abusing those less fortunate ones. Anyway, you should rest after a fight! The Fighting Pit:After selecting someone to fight, the two of you will be brought to the pit, where you will battle to the death or a surrender. You should watch your stats carefully throughout the fight, or you may find yourself exhausted and unable to continue.. at which point your opponent will surely attack you. There are three basic fighting moves that you wiGll be able to make. They are: [A] Normal Attack, [T] Thrust, and [P] Parry. A normal attack is a single swing or blow of your iweapon, whereas a thrust is an all-out attack. A thrust increases your chances to hit and damage your foe, but it also makes you more vulnerable. A thrust also costs substantially more fatigue.A parry helps shield you against an attack while conserving fatigue. It allows you to rest without letting down your guard. This is a good technique to get rid of some of that fatigue.ǛAside from the basic fighting moves, there are also more options available to you:[Y] Your Stats: Allows you to monitor your stats while in battle. It does not take up a turn.[V] View Opponent: Allows you to view your foe's stats, while not taking up a turn.[I] Inventory: Lists the items that you're carrying.[S] Surrender: Allows you to surrender to your opponent. If the situation looks dim, and you're certain that you're going to be killed, then choose this option. Although you will lose, and your opponent will search you and take any gold that you may be carrying as well as any armor he wants, you will be allowed to live and continue with your adventure. Surrendering to a mercenary is a rather foolish move; however, in that he will still search your body and give anything he finds to his employer.[C] Cast: Allows you to cast a spell. remember, that if your citizen's magical abilities are not great, the spell most likely will not be successful. However, if you choose your attributes wisely, this will be a valuable feature indeed.[D] Dart: Allows you to fire a dart into your opponent. Keep in mind that simply throwing a dart at your opponent will not yield the best results. In fact, you're unlikely to hit him without something to fire the dart.A good supply of Nectar, Elixers, and healing salves is valuable in the fighting arena. You'll need them! All computer-controlled opponents automatically use them when needed (if they have any, that is..)The winner of the fight will search his opponent, stealing any money in his purse and gaining valuable experience points. In addition to that, if the loser's armor is better than that of the winner, the winner will exchange them, taking the better one.Arena Fights:An Arena Fight is divideCX{|}~{ǛMarket SquareThis is the center of where you will be doing most of your equipment purchases, sales, and other money transactions. There are several shops available to you, many of which will be visited quite frequently.BargainingAlmost all items for sale in the Market Square are up for bargaining. The price given for an item is only an asking price; you may attempt to buy it for a cheaper price simply by making an offer lower than the shopkeeper's price. He will either accept it, or return with a new amount. It is possible to obtain an item for substantially less than the initial price. If your offers are too low, you will insult the shopkeeper and he may even raise the price! Furthermore, if you persist in quibbling over every single gold piece, he will tire of it, and demand more... or even throw you out of his shop! You must be careful of that. Remember that some attributes make your citizen a better bargainer. The Weapons Shop and the ArmoryThere are a number of items available to buy in each of these shops. The cheapest item is usually the least effective, while the more costly ones do a better job (most of the time); however, your strength limits how large an item you can carry, and your dexterity affects how well you can use it.When you enter the city for the first time (or re-roll your citizen) you will be equipped with only your hands as weapons and only your skin as armor. This will not serve you well at all (not to mention the embarrassment of being caught naked by other citizEens) so you should work on getting something more effective. Also, you should note that you will be allowed to carry only one weapon, and wear only one piece of armor at any given time. If you would like to buy a new item (maybe a more effective one) then after buying it, the shopkeeper will give you 80% of the cost of your old item. If you buy an item, you should get enough use out of it to warrant this loss. Of course, you can't sell your hands or your skin (aww..)The Towne SupplyThe Towne Supply offers, at a high price, items that are needed for most journeys. The shop offers four items for the general public to buy, thou more may be available to you as you rise the ladder of Zenobian culture.Items that can be found in the Supply:Torches: these are used in the dungeon and anywhere else you might need artificial light. Moving in the dark is always risky, and likely to bring its share of danger.Darts: the Supply sells small fletched darts darkly stained with a common poison. The benefits of these are unknown to you until you discover them.Keys: the keys sold in the Supply are especially designed to fit virtually any lock, though they break after only their first usage. They're likely to be useful in the dungeons, indeed.Special box: there is one special item, which is simply an indistinctive box. This box holds any number of things: from gold, to gems, to treasures, to nothing but air. After buying it, you will be able to open it and find out what the contents are. The shopkeeper, having a rather devious gambling addiction, has added this item to his Supply as to offer his idea of a game of chance. The BankǛYou have two places to keep your gold: in your purse (which is carried with you at all times) and the Bank. If you are gone, and are attacked by another citizen, and you lose, the gold in your purse may be stolen. All gold that you keep in the Bank is safe from being taken in this way; however, the banks of this day are not that secure, so there is a heavy chance of being robbed by thieves. It is suggested that some of your gold be kept both with you and in the bank at all times. The banks, seeing thaGt they started losing people because of all the robberies, now offer 3% interest per day on all gold kept there. Interest is added at midnight of each Zenobian day.The GroceryOne of your main concerns is with your supply of rations. If you drop too low you will have to conserve, and thus will be weaker. If you run out, and cannot find any in time, you will die of starvation. This is unpleasant and so messy for the city keepers to clean up.. try to avoid this, thanks.LodgingOne of the many hazards when you are away, is the chance of being attacked by other citizens. One way to try and prevent this is to take up lodging when you are away. The guards at the Inn doors are powerful enough to keep most people away; however, they can be over- taken by stronger, more experienced people. If this happens, you will be dragged out of the Inn and attacked. The cost of lodging is steep, but then, the benefits are high! The EmporiumThe competition within the Market Square is fierce, and has driven many small shoppes away. In response to this, a small group of merchants have started their own Emporium of shops. Within the Emporium can be found the Apothecaries, the healshop, a small magic shop, and a fortune teller. The shopkeepers here are very poor and can not afford to bargain with most people. The GuildFnord the guildmaster has prospered throughout the years of Zenobian history so much as to have opened his own Guild. Fnord will buy and sell just about anything he can obtain. He is known for Sbeing a cheapskate, so don't expect to see reasonable prices or offers from him!n`a|22NBREAFCERRGTCJPWRECSUBICCPC25NAMESTATPWSLCHNDPPWNNFKYOUBIxy !()0179 @A HI OQ WY _ahipqxy !')/189@AHIOQWY`ahipq xy!" #$% !&'E / B A6# BIQ/6-@)U`u6-Ad B4(G7(W( cc Examine citizensu( cc Find a citizenf ( cc Scan citizens@( cc Initialize worldf(! cc View computer fightersb ( cc Add a fighterD( cc Compact fighter fileb( cc Go to a module6-D6-6ii%A#'A+/A37A;OB 0B ASWA[_A coAAsAP6- C6-6-A A6-\( 6-6-@ G{1(庠 ; B>(A(P4A\6-A 9< 6-A:, )!AP( B2 A=C< AG[XY Bp(6.o 667$+"AS,H&6.7$@BF&@JP<$@T,0 BP6"H6.
