They are stored as standard 62-secto@}r pictures with the extender .PIC. When the blank screen appears, you can get to the Graphics menu by pressing STARTA}. The items are mostly self-explanatory. However, if you choose "circle", be aware of the fact that the radius is meB}asured from the middle point, that is, you are not choosing the two extreme sides. If you choose "Script", you can cC}hoose a different character set with item (8). This item will load a standard 8x8 9-sector font with the .FNT extenderD}. Several are on the disk. (Note: to load character sets and/or pics, after the disk directory is presented on scrE}een, use the format "D:Filename.Ext.) Choose "script" and position the cursor with the joystick. Press the trigger F}and simply start typing. Press [Esc] to get back to the joystick mode. To get out of the Script option, press [Esc],G} then press START. You can also go to and from zoom mode with SELECT, but it takes a few seconds, so don't get too H}impatient. (2) PHOTO-CONVERTER ___________________ With this program you can bring pictures, photosI}, and pages into the correct format. Why? The graphics program (#1) can only read 62-sector pictures. The editor (J}#3) can only read photos and pages. Therefore, when you make a picture (PIC) with "Graphics", you must cut out a phoK}to (PHO) with this program so that you can work with it in the "Editor". Or, you must convert a photo or page (PGE) inL}to a picture to work on it with "Graphics". Don't worry, if you play with it for a while it will make sense. To cuM}t a photo out of a picture, you load the picture first, of course. In the upper left corner will be a small blinking dN}ot (which is very hard to see, so keep looking!). With the joystick, place it at the upper left corner of your "photO}o" and press the button. Then draw a line downward (simply by moving the stick) to determine the height. Lastly, deP}termine the width by moving the stick to the right and pushing the button. A black triangle will be drawn over your Q}photo, but it will be cut out in a rectangle. Give a file name, and it will be stored with the extender .PHO. Note:R} to load photos/pics, use the format "Filename.Ext". The disk drive designation is not required. Also, to obtain proS}gram prompts, it is sometimes necessary to press either the space bar or the joystick trigger. The other operations T}of this program are mainly self- explanatory with the prompts. (3) EDITOR __________ ThisU} is where you create the pages and begin the actual work of producing text. When the title screen appears, press any V} key. The screen that then appears shows the current character mode. By holding down OPTION and pressing SPACE, youW} can rotate through the four character modes (40 normal / 40 double high / 80 normal / 80 double high). By holding SX}ELECT and pressing SPACE, you go back to the main menu. Here you can load another character set, but this does not aY}ffect the 80 character modes, because they would no longer be readable. Before writing text, it is good to "take a pZ}hoto". After loading the photo (PHO), position it with the joystick and press the trigger. Then press START to perm[}anently set it. For programming reasons, the photo must be moved once! With the photo in place, you can write a tit\}le in large letters and place small text under it, or whatever you like. Before saving the page, be sure to move the]} cursor to the bottom of the screen. Also, if you have been writing in lower case, press CAPS to get into upper case m^}ode. In this way the page will be saved in the proper 59-sector format. (4) MAGAZINE MAKER ________}___________ This program was in the first version of the package and for some reason left off of the version 2.0 sen`}t to me. I have placed it back in because I think it is very useful. It lines up the pages you create to make a reaa}l magazine 'on disk'. Just follow the prompts and give the file names of the pages when asked. It creates a program b} called AUTORUN.BAS, so if you put your "magazine" on a disk with TURBO BASIC named AUTORUN.SYS, it will load automaticc}ally and show the title you created. It also creates the REIHE file to keep track of the order of the pages. These d}occupy 25 sectors together, so be sure to have that much available on your disk. When viewing a picture, pressing Se}PACE gets you a menu. Here you can change the color and the luminance of the text and background, or leave the programf}. By pressing ESC while reading a page, you get a prompt asking for a page number. This lets you go to any page in tg}he magazine. Otherwise, you can go forward or backwards one page at a time with the right and left arrows respectiveh}ly (without CONTROL). (5) HARDCOPY 1029 _________________ This will print a 62-sector page (picturei}) on the ATARI 1029 printer. I don't have this printer, so I hope this works. In fact, I don't have a hardcopy progj}ram for 62-sector pictures for my Star SG-10 either, so I have only made magazines on disk. You can print these picturk}e files with the right program substituted for "HARDCOPY.TUR". There are several 62-sector picture dumps available inl} the public domain which should work with your printer. Picture files could also be converted to the MicroIllustratorm}/Koala Pad format with a public domain graphics file conversion program. Once you obtain a hardcopy of your picture n}files, they can then be photo copied, stapled into newsletters, and distributed. CONCLUSION o} __________ These DOCS are not complete, but I have translated all that I have been able to get in German and even ap}dded a couple of my own discoveries. There are likely more capabilities in these programs, so have fun with your expq}erimenting. I have included several fonts (FNT) on side A, and if your substituted hardcopy program takes more than 16r} sectors, you will have to remove a font or two first, because the disk is full. Note: some fonts are used in the ps}rogram itself, so you should save the font before deleting it just in case you get an ERROR 170 later and need to replat}ce it on the disk. On side B, I have put several photos (PHO), a couple of 62 sec pictures (PIC), and a few pages u}(PGE) so you can have something to practice on before starting your own magazine. AUTORUN.TUR is a mini four page mav}gazine so you can see how it works. Its in Turbo Basic, so boot side one, press [Break] at the title screen. Turn over w}the disk and RUN"D:AUTORUN.TUR". Press the right arrow key to turn the pages. I hope these DOCS are sufficient to x}get you going on this program. Experiment with it and I'm sure that once you get onto it, you will find it to be as mucy}h fun to use as I have. LAST MINUTE TIPS & WARNINGS ___________________________ * First of all, be sure to maz}ke a backup copy of your main Digital Editor program disk. * If you find yourself staring at an unchanging scr{}een, try pressing SPACE or the joystick trigger. Often this will produce another prompt, and the program will|} continue. * Before using the program, format a blank disk for use as a work disk. You will frequently have to}} save your pictures, photos, and pages, and the program disk is full both sides. * After loading/saving your data~} to/from your work disk, be sure to replace your program disk in the drive before returning to a menu, or an E}rror message will appear, your program will stop, and you will have to re-boot. Sometimes, if you are lucky, } you can just type RUN and pick up where you left off. * The program has somewhat poor Error checking, so be very} careful in your data entry! Don't depair. Once you use it a few times, you will do okay.r checking, so be veryf\]}\ ABKECBILDCOPLPQDSDHSPZGOMAIVVVVHISCTITELZZEGFEHLEVGCHBMI,, }@AU@@@ < @ }?)AA>@A@ bB!A }"A`#B `K6-@6-@'6-36-@ ?6-K6- @e&& };A,;@,;Av,PA +@$'0@A0@@((@@ }D:REIHE@$@.%") %6-@/6.7<%@,3\4+*"@ }+"(4( 8)D6-@R6-%@ \ A%6\4+*"@+"(4( 8)D6-@R6-&@ \ A%8 @@B@LC@C:,V@ }`) +@$0@)0@j9C:,U:@,%At)~'"@B6-%@ ' Ap }"@2P A '"@C6-&@ ' Ap"@'A Ap 6-@ } ApOe +'0@@ A0@SA"AUeAR@ } #A-@@#"B:,"AP-@B:,7<,4 67<,., 4* }) Ap-@@#( A0QDEMONSTRATION MAGAZINEAIN'T THIS GREAT!!!* + }"`0@"0@Page >%"@6-@% Ap6-$@ !B:,A }6-&@ 6-@ A A +@$'0@@ A0@9C:,U: }@,%A("@6-'( A Ap@EF:A,"Ap"+7( };)E A%E(F:A, %@!B:, 6-@6.7<%@, 7@<@,4D: $57 }@<@,0D:+6-%@5 A 47@<@,4:*6-&@4 A &3T4O9 + }0@>0@CAR@H( (( BackgroundM(( TextR(( Continue }readingS(( ŠΠĠW)\"@IPa"@PPf"@QA!`gM"@R(%(Reall }y ?
