Page }six is not used so programs like the CX85 handler may use this area of memory. If there is not enough memory a me}ssage saying as much will appear and you will have to reboot If using DTXM, DTMPP, DTSX212 and you have a P:R:} or 850 interface please do not boot them, cause the handlers are built in. If you do boot them it will raise lomem and} you might not have enough memory to run DeTerm. Booting with DOS 2.0 or 2.5: 1> construct a boot disk containing} DOS files (including RAMDISK.COM, if appropriate), and DeTerm. Rename the DeTerm file AUTORUN.SYS 2> Boot your co}mputer (modem on) with the disk in D1: IMPORTANT-> HOLD DOWN THE OPTION KEY to disable Basic (XL/XE ... 800 users, remo}ve the Basic cartridge.) Booting with SpartaDOS: 1> rename DeTerm, DETERM.COM. 2> boot the computer (modem} on), put your DeTerm disk in D1: and go to DOS. You can run DeTerm from the command line or from a batch file. Disa}ble basic before running. NOTE:DeTerm works with TDLINE ON and KEY ON. AUX FILES DeTerm a}ttempts to load some auxiliary files from D1: when it loads (no harm if they're not there.) These are: LIST.BAT - }simply contains the name of your default 'phone list', followed by a RETURN. (Phone lists are created within DeTerm ...} see below.) The name in LIST.BAT MUST BE A FULL FILESPEC, including the drive number. You can create LIST.BAT file by }typing in the following basic program and running it: 100 DIM A$(30):A$="D1:PHONE.LST":REM or whatever name you li}ke. 110 OPEN #1,8,0,"D1:LIST.BAT":REM open file 120 PRINT #1;A$:REM print the name 130 CLOSE #1:REM done! 140 E}ND Another way to create the LIST.BAt file using your Dos's copy routine , copy from E: to D:LIST.BAT, type } D:PHONE.LST (press RETURN) hold down on the control key and press '3'. In the above examples, after DeTerm }boots it will read LIST.BAT to find the name of your list file, then load that file into the appropriate buffer. MOD}EM.BAT - is a 'setup' file that allows you to send commands directly to your modem before running DeTerm (consult your }modem documentation to see what commands you can send.) Again, each command or string of commands must end with an Atar}i RETURN character. To create a MODEM.BAT file type in the following basic program and run it: 100 DIM A$(30) } 110 OPEN #1,8,0,"D1:MODEM.BAT" 120 A$="ATX2":REM select extended result codes 130 PRINT #1;A$:REM Send to file 1}40 A$="ATS11=60":REM Speed tone dial up a bit 150 PRINT #1;A$:REM Send to file 160 CLOSE #1:REM done! 170 END }Or again using your Dos's copy routine, copy from E: to D:MODEM.BAT and type: ATX2 (press RETURN) ATS11=60 (pre}ss RETURN) hold down on the control key and press '3'. In the above examples, after DeTerm boots it reads MODEM.}BAT and sends the commands: ATX2 (return) ATS11=60 (return) to your modem, just as if you'd typed them in you}rself. DEFAULTS Loads user defaults, set previously (see ETC. below.) MENU NAVIGATION } DeTerm uses an ST-like interface which includes extensive use of Windows and Drop Down Menus. The first thing} you'll notice is the menu line at the top of the screen, which contains the following: Online R:Dev Modem Disk }Etc Quit RUNNING A MENU Whenever the Menu Line is displayed, you can Run a menu (display the com}mands in the menu) in a couple of ways: Cycle the bar cursor through the choices by pressing the OPTION or SELECT }keys, as well as any of the 'arrow' keys (without pressing the control key.) When you get to the menu you wish to acces}s, press either START or RETURN. OR press the FIRST LETTER of the Menu you wish to run (no RETURN necessary.) I}n both cases, the menu window under the header will open, and you'll see the supported commands. SELECT}ING A MENU OPTION Once the commands are displayed, you again have a couple of options to run a specific command: } Use an 'arrow' key to cycle the cursor through the commands. When you reach the command you want, press RETURN or the} START key. Type the FIRST LETTER of the command (no RETURN is necessary.) The command will be executed, and, in } most cases, you'll be returned to the drop down menu. MENU GLOBAL In all menus, a couple of 'g}lobal' commands will prove useful: 1-9 pressing a number will display the directory of the drive specified. You c}an stop a directory display by pressing SELECT. Q - Quit .. this will close the menu, and return you to the me}nu line. ESC - Pressing the ESCAPE key causes an immediate jump to terminal mode. INPUT CONVENTIONS } When inputting text into a DeTerm window (eg. phone number, file name, etc.) the regular Atari edit keys (Backs}pace, Insert, Delete, etc.) are supported. For most input operations, use the SELECT key to cancel the operatio}n and return to the menu currently running. When any Y/N (Yes/No) prompt appears pressing SELECT is treated by DeTerm} as a NO. WHAT'S IN THE DROP DOWN MENUS??? Here are specifics on each command, organized according to th}e Menu Header. -ONLINE- Term Go to terminal, return to main menu by pressing SELECT. (remembe}r, you can also exit to terminal mode with the ESCAPE key) Up Up Load a file using Xmodem or Xmodem CRC. You are } not asked which checksum method to use, why? Well because this routine lets the other end switch it into either Xmodem } or xmodem CRC. Down Down Load a file using xmodem or Xmodem CRC, you will be ask which type of checksum method to } use. If you use Xmodem CRC this routine will try four time (once every ten seconds) to switch the sender to CRC, if no } response after the fourth try it defaults back to standard Xmodem. Both Xmodem routines are available at all times } (even when not connected). It is up to you to decide if you wish to setup the transfer after or before you notify the }host computer of what you will be doing. After you input the file name to be used on your Atari you'll be returned to }terminal mode (unless you abort by not entering a file name or pressing the SELECT key) with the 'xmodem' window open. }Press START when you wish to begin. You can abort either Up Load or Down Load by pressing SELECT while in termina}l mode or during transfer. Capture Capture text received over the modem to a disk file. If you pick this option }with data already in the buffer, you'll be asked if you would like to clear the buffer. If you say no, current buffer d}ata will be included in the file. You'll be returned to Terminal Mode with 'capture on' (the screen border is light }blue when capturing.) You can turn capture ON and OFF by pressing the OPTION key (border is black when no capture is in} effect.). When data buffer is full the capture routine sends a control S to the host computer (which means pause), wa}its to make sure in fact it did, saves data in buffer and zeros the counter, then sends a control Q (resume command). I}f a disk error occurs while buffer is being saved the resume command is not sent the counter is not zeroed, and capt}ure is toggled off. This will give you a chance to correct the error, open a new capture file (if you wish) and continu}e capturing. You will have to send the resume command (control Q) once back in terminal mode. IMPORTANT-> If you are} Capturing and hit SELECT to display the menu line, current buffer contents will be saved to the specified file AND THE} FILE WILL BE CLOSED. If you wish to continue capturing after this, you must repeat the Capture command, specifying a} new file name. Send Send text, with no error checking, directly from a disk file to the host computer. Use this f}or 'dumb up loads' of text (eg. sending messages.) After specifying the file name, and delay rate (number of jiffies to} wait between chrs sent), you'll be returned to terminal mode. Press START to begin the Send. You can quit by pressing } OPTION. File Save data in buffer to disk View Used to review text. If you have data in the buffer, that's u }sed. If the buffer is empty, then you'll be prompted for a file name to look at. In both cases, text is displayed!} 18 lines at a time. When the 'Press Any Key' prompt appears you may abort View by pressing the Select key then any o"}ther key. Print Data in the buffer is sent to printer, if buffer is empty then you are asked for a file name to be#} printed. Zero Clear buffer -R:DEV- Baud Set Baud rate. Mpp 300,400$},450 XM301/1030 300 Hayes or compatible 300,1200,2400. Trans Set translation (Atari,Ascii). Duple%}x Set Duplex to either Full or Half. If the host computer your are connected to does not echo keys you type then use&} Half Duplex, else use Full Duplex Parity Set Parity to No,Even,Odd,Set. A bit out dated but put it in anyway. '}Hangup Put the phone on hook. CRX Set carrier detect On or Off Off->Use Hayes result codes. On ->Do not use(} Hayes result codes. There are two ways to tell if a connection is made, one is by matching Hayes results codes (eg CO)}NNECT, NO CARRIER). The second by testing the sense value in memory location 747, if bit three is set then a carrier is*} present. I like the first method the best but have found not all modems are fully Hayes compatible so added the seco+}nd. If a carrier is present and you dial a number the state of CRX is ignored and the result code method is used. ,}To cycle through the settings for Baud, Trans, Duplex, Parity, and CRX press OPTION or the left arrow key. Press START -}or RETURN to accept a setting. If you quit by pressing SELECT, values are unchanged. -MOD.}EM- Dial Dial a number from the keyboard. The number entered will be redialed until a connection. Abort by pressi/}ng SELECT either while number is being dialed or while waiting for a connection. Mode Sets the dial mode, Tone or 0}Pulse. Cycle thru settings by pressing the Option key or the left arrow key, press the Start or Return key to accept 1}setting. If you use the Select key to abort the dial mode is unchanged. Wait Number of seconds to wait for a con2}nection before redialing or moving on to another number. Answer Send an ATA command to modem and then wait for a c3}onnection. Orginate Send an ATD command to modem and then wait for a connection. List This accesses your list4} of phone numbers. DeTerm has two types of lists, a dial list for BBS's or friends with a terminal, and a City List t5}o dial cities while on PC Pursuit. Cycle through entries on the list by pressing the up or down arrow keys, again no ne6}ed to press the control key. Two commands are not listed on the 'list menu' but are supported. These are: C 7} Dial entry that the cursor is currently on. Space Mark number that the cursor is currently on. If the number 8}is already marked then space unmarks it. Scan Dial all marked numbers in the list. If no numbers are marked, then 9}the sequence starts with the number currently under the cursor, followed, if no connection is made, by the other :} numbers on the list. Add Add an entry to the current phone list. (see fields, below) Edit Edit the current ;}entry. To keep any field in the entry the same, just hit RETURN. Note: When in Add Or Edit you can copy a field fr<}om LAST accepted entry by pressing control-c. Delete Delete current entry. Read Load a list. You can load eit=}her Phone or City lists. DeTerm will adjust automatic ally. Write Save the current list to disk. If creating a '>}boot' list, use the same name as used in LIST.BAT. New Zap the current list. Print Send the current list to t?}he printer. City (PC Pursuit) List features: The City list has one more function: ID. This is where you enter y@}our PC Pursuit Id and Password. You MUST enter a Password and an ID with EACH city file. Make sure you SAVE the file A}so next time you load it there will be no need to renter your Password or Id. Note:Sometimes PC Pursuit gets confuseB}d when calling cities ,if this happens break your connection and call back. One More Note:All this talk of calling citiC}es I hope you remember you have to dial your local access number first so you can connect to PC Pursuit. PHOD}NE LIST (BBS) Fields: Name: name the entry whatever you want. Area: Area code (no need if calling local numbersE}) Number: phone number. If the first number is a '1' the area code above is included when the number is dialedF}. Of course if the area code is blank it is ignored. Baud: Baud rate. (Not required for PC pursuit) Trans: TrG}anslation Mode (ASCII or ATASCII) The strings in the following fields are sent directly over the modem by pressing H}control-shift-key when in terminal mode: password (U) macro#1 (1) macro#2 (2) macro#3 (3) macro#4 I}(4) Note: if you require macros longer than the allowed field length, you can 'paste' them together with a '+' sigJ}n. For example: Password:I have a long+ Macro1:password so I use+ Macro2:3 entries! Macro3:separate MacK}ro4:also separate When in terminal mode and the command to send the password is given the password is sent to the moL}dem along with macro1 and macro2. If the command to send macro1 is given then just macro1 and macro2 are sent to the M}modem.
