We know that you are anxious to get right into the program and play around, so this first section will be brief. Everything is menu driven and using a mouse is highly recommended. First, some requirements: 1. Your PC Xformer executable files (.EXE) MUST start with the letters 'XF' and end with the extension ".EXE". 2. You MUST put your virtual disk files and/or induvidual Atari files (files uploaded from a BBS, for instance) in the directory that this shell program is running from, or one of it's subdirectories. A virtual disk file MUST have an extension of ".XFD" or ".ATR". 3. If you try to run a version of PC Xformer from the shell that is before the 3.X series, the switches (found in the OPTIONS/RUN OPTIONS menu) will cause the PC Xformer to fail to load the virtual disks you have selected. If you are using the 2.X series of PC Xformer, make certian that all of the Command Line switches are off (no 'X' in the box) 4. As much as possible, use the shell program when you wish to Copy, Rename or Delete Virtual Disk files. All files can have an information file associated with it and if you use DOS for this, these info files won't be taken care of properly. Before you run the shell, copy any/all PC Xformer .EXE files into the directory as well as any virtual disk files you wish to use. When you first run the shell, got to the OPTIONS/RUN OPTIONS menu and select a PC Xformer .EXE file from the list available (double-click on it) and if you are using one of the 3.X series or PC Xformer, you may select the options at the top of the box. Then got to the OPTIONS/VIEW OPTIONS menu and type "*.XFD" in the Filter box and click on the DISPLAY FILES and DISPLAY INFO check boxes to activate these features. There are two kinds of files that this shell program uses: Virtual Disk files or Atari files. Virtual Disk files are files that contain an entire Atari disk's information in 1 file. Atari files are individual files that have been moved to the PC, via BBS, modem or some other method. Each virtual disk file can have an information file associated with it. This information can be whatever you wish to write about that virtual disk. You may enter up to 2500 characters for each disk. Many commands and menu items have one character that is shown in white. These can be activated by holding down the ALT key and pressing the letter that is in white. The menu bar at the top of the screen can be accessed the same way. You will be returned to the shell program after you have exited from the PC Xformer with all of your selections intact, provided that you run the PC Xformer from the shell program (RUN/RUN EMULATOR from the menu bar)
