IN THE CENTER OF YOU PANEL IS YOUR SCANNER FOR LOCATING ENEMY SHIPS AND ENEMY BASES. }DIRECTLY TO THE LEFT OF YOUR SCANNER ARE TWO VERTICAL BARS WHICH ARE YOUR LASER HEAT INDICATORS. IF YOUR LASERS OVERHEAT FRO}M EXTENDED USE THEY WILL NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY. JUST STOP FIRING FOR A COUPLE SECONDS AND THEY WILL COOL DOWN QUICKLY. Applications are 1) decreasing storage space needed for b1z}ackups; and 2) allowing for the first time a standardized way of uploading and downloading whole disks to1{}/from bulletin boards. UNSCRUNCH! is designed to take the file produced by SCRUNCH! and return it 1|}to its natural condition. It produces a mirror image of the original. This version allows two drive use1}}rs to use single, double, quad, or hard disk storage for the creation and reading of the scrunched file. The boot1~} disk must, of course, be single density. NOTE: I do not advocate piracy, and sincerely hope that 1} these programs will not be used for it. Piracy hurts both the consumer (have you noticed less new stuff latel1}y?) and the programmers (less economic incentive to write new programs for a user base that will not comp1}ensate you for your efforts). Buying the software you want or need insures that there will always be som1}eone out there that is willing to spend the time and effort to make new programs. Take that away and the1}re won't be any more software. The choice is yours. USING SCRUNCH! Using SCRUNCH! is s1}imple. After the program loads, you will be prompted for the filename you want to use for the new scrunc1}hed file that is about to be created. Two drive users should specify drive two (or whatever drive number your driv1}e is set to). One drive users prefix the file name with 'D:'. In either case, follow the instructions on1} the prompts for placement of disks. The disk that you want to place the scrunched file on1} should be a freshly formatted disk. The reason for this is because if the disk you are scrunching is re1}latively full, it will take up most of the room on the disk. If you are using double density on a second drive, 1} then size is not an important consideration. USING UNSCRUNCH! Using UNSCRUNCH! isn't hard1}, either. This will probably be the program that you use the most, if your local BBS chooses to adopt th1}is format. The program will give you the option of formatting a new disk or not. Two drive users should1} place the disk that will become a boot disk in drive one and the disk that contains their source file in the 1} second drive. One drive users place the disk with the scrunched file in their drive. Follow the prompts and 1}you shouldn't have any problems with it. STEP-BY-STEP To Scrunch a file... 11}. Prepare a disk to place the scrunched file on. 2. Load SCRUNCH!. 3. ONE DRIVE: Insert source disk1} in drive. Respond to prompt with the filename you wish to use for the file to be created. 1} TWO DRIVES: Insert source disk in drive 1, and place destination disk in second drive. 1} Respond to the prompt with the destination file name you wish to use. Be sure to specifythe 1} drive number you want to use as destination. 4. ONE DRIVE: Swap disks at the prompts. 5. Tha1}t's all! Once the program finishes, you will have a scrunched file that you can store as a bac1}kup, or transfer with your modem using XMODEM or whatever protocol you use. To 1}unscrunch a file... 1. Load UNSCRUNCH!. 2. The program will inquire if you would like 1} to format your destination disk. Select either Y for yes or N for no and press RETURN. If1} you answered yes, you will format a disk before you continue. 3. ONE DRIVE: place disk with scr1}unched file on it in drive one and follow the prompts. TWO DRIVE: place formatted disk in dri1}ve 1, and your source in your other drive. Answer the prompt with the filename your scrunche1}d file has, using the 'D?:' prefix. 4. ONE DRIVE: swap disks as the prompt indicates. 1} 5. That's all there is to it. You now have an exact copy of the disk that was scrunched or1}iginally. The e9}asy helper for GOONIESscene 1 : The object is to get to the tunnel under the house. To get there you must put out the fir9}eplace by hitting the water cooler over. Send one kid to the attic by placing the chair under the opening and jumping up on i9}t and climbing up the ladder. In the attic there is a printing press, this will throw money through the window. The old woman9} will stay outside and catch the money and you can send the one goonie downstairs and put out the fir and climb down the tunn9}el. Then quickly send the goonie in the attic through the fireplace. done.scene 2 : You have to get the key to open the b9}ottom door. Send one goonie down to the bottom and put him on the crank gear and open lift the middle chamber rock. Send the 9}second goonie down to the floating ball in the chamber. Then put the second goonie right next to the door. Use the goonie on 9}the ball and send him under the pails to the ledge and grab the rail above him and get the key and send him down to the door.9} Watch out for bat flying around the cave.scene 3 : To get through this scene you must burst the pipe on the right side b9}y the tunnel. To do this you must shut two run off valves. The first is the one on on the middle left chamber and the second 9}in the top right. Just send one goonie on each valve and your through. Watch out for the the criminal at the right shooting.9}scene 4: You must remove the three boards blocking the escape tunnal at the bottom left. To do this you must send the litt9}le rocks rolling down the the cave. Send the little fat goonie to sit on the trap at the bottom. Take the tall one and use hi9}m to direct the rolling rocks. On the first level get the rock moving from right to left so it rolls against the wall and rol9}ls back. On the second level drop the rock through the trap door going left to right. The third level drop the rock going rig9}ht to left. The rock will drop though and little tunnel aside of you escape tunnel. All this must be done before the hammer d9}own at the bottom hits the bell and sends out all the bats. There is no place to hide from the bats, except the top right cor9}ner. A rock must go though the little tunnel three times to escape.Of course you know that you pull on the chain to open the9} trap doors.scene 5 : The biggie to me. You must stack the little geometric eggs that the big bird drops by the tunnel at9} the bottom left of the screen. To do this I just take the eggs and throw the egg down to the bottom right room and send a go9}onie to the top right room to pull down the bone hanging on a chain and to make the bridge and to stack the eggs up. When don9}e just send the goonies over the lave pit, you can jump it, and climb the eggs and to the next screenscene 7 : You must g9}et to the tunnel at the right of the screen but an octopus blocks your way. To get through you must drain his little lake by 9}jumping on the blue pinball like flipper. The flipper will not go down because of a locked bar underneath it. To remove this 9}you have to hang one goonie off of the bar. But the goonie cannot get to this. So you have to use the 'box' hanging from the 9}ceiling. To do this you must hang a goonie off of the hanging bone at the top of the screen then the box, or cage, whatever y9}a want to call it, will fall in the bottom stream. Then take the other goonie and plop him on top of the cage and hang him of9}f the bottom of the bar. Then take the other goonie that was hanging on the bone and make him bounce off of the right 'flippe9}r' and the little lake will drain a bit and the octopus will drop so you can proceed. Watch out for the bats again. It will t9}ake time to get to the side with the bone/flippers. But I hang off of the top rail and just run to the left and push top left9}. long one...scene 8 : ( last ) After all of that you get to the final screen. In this screen you have to get the treasu9}re at the top of the ship. The first thing you do is take the little goonie and run him down to the cabin that is almost in t9}he middle of the ship and throw the level to the right. Then take the big sped and run him through the door next to you and t9}hen to the top room to the left and through that lever and you go through the door at the top left. Then get to the bottom of9} the ship ( you and the big guy ) and send the big guy to the top and push the treasure chest at the top to the right so that9} a few coins fall off the side of the ship and the old woman will chase them and fall off. Then take the little goonie and p9}osition him on the sail mast sticking out from the main mast. When he is standing on the sail mast take the big guy and go to9} the first room whee you were in and through the lever again and the goonie will get raised to the top and then he can jump t9}o the treasure chest and you take the big guy and meet both of them on the top treasure. Navigate your way to and then landA} on it. Once you've landed, follow the directions on the screen. Press B to blast off to your new destination. The Control PA}anel:Viewing Screen-you can observe all of space around you through this screen. To see different views, come to a completeA} stop and then change your field of vision.Direction Pointer-Shows the direction you're moving. If you're moving toward a pA}lanet or moon shown on the main screen, the pointer will be up at the top of the dial. When you are moving away from an objecA}t it will be at the bottom.Planet/Moon Finder-This is the marked area in the center of the main screen. The four marked corA}ners will light up when a planet or moon comes within range.Planet/Moon Indicator-As you approach an object and it becomes B}clearer, its name and your distance from it will appear here.Power Meter-Your ship has two power levels, low and high. HighB} is best for traveling great distances. Low gives you more control and is helpful when you are maneuvering for a landing. PreB}ss 'L' to select low and 'H' for high.Speed-Watch your speed. If you go too fast you could overshoot your target. When you B}reach 300,000 km/s you jump into hyperspace.Timer-keeps track of how long it takes you to complete the mission. It doesn't B}run when your speed is 0 km/s.Using the control panel:To move in a direction-push the stick in that direction. The longerB} you hold the stick in that direction the faster you will go.To jump into hyperspace-increase your speed to 300,000 km/s. OB}nce in hyper-space, your speed is reported in gigameters per second. (1 gigameter=one million kilometers)To Slow down or StB}op-Press the space bar. In hyperspace this brings you to an immediate stop, otherwise each press of the space bar cuts your sB}peed by half.To change your field of vision-Stop the ship, press the button and move the stick left or right. NOTE: this wiB }ll not change the direction in which you are traveling. To Select power level-press 'H' for high and 'L' for low.To engageB } automatic landing system-press "A". you can land only when the planet/moon finder is blinking and beeping. To land on HalleyB }'s comet, fly into it. To blast off again press 'B'.To see the radar screen-Press 'R'Using the radar screen:Your ship iB }s located at the center of the radar screen. To zoom in push up on the stick. To zoom out pull back. To return to the controlB }s press 'R'. When you zoom out you see the entire solar system and zooming in shows a small area.Navigating:Press 'R' to B}see the radar screen. At the beginning of each mission a message appears telling you your destination. The message may specifB}y the destination or it may only give you a clue. As soon as you embark on a mission, you will see Halley's Comet on the screB}en. The ship is always moving away from the comet as the mission begins. Move away from the comet about 600,000 km. Now use tB}he radar screen to determine where your destination is and begin flying towards it. The Sun is always the brightest dot on thB}e radar. To identify a planet, count the dots away from the sun. (i.e. Earth is #3, Mars #4, etc.) Once you've located the deB}stination zoom out until it is located at the edge of the radar. Note the constellation it is next to and the distance. Use aB}n encyclopedia or a star map to help you find and locate constellations. Start flying toward your destination. Once you are B}close to a planet (20 to 30 gigameters) press the space bar to brake. Move slowly towards the constellation where your destinB}ation is located.Orbiting and Landing:Each planet or moon has two landing areas, one on the bright side and one on the daB}rk side. You must be within 100,000 km to land. Center the destination in the planet/moon finder and move toward it at low poB}wer. You will begin to orbit the destination when you are 100,000 or closer. The planet/moon finder will flash and beep when B}you are above a landing area. When you see the landing area, press 'A'. The ship will automatically land. You will see a messB}age telling you which planet or moon you've landed on and also your next destination will be described. Press any key to see B}a picture of the planet or moon you've landed on. Plan your course to your next stop, then press 'B' to take off.Final noteB}s:To re-start press START when you are not using the radar screen or when you are not landed on a planet or moon. The namesB} and records can be erased by holding down OPTION and pressing 'I'. ation[c] 1985 Mindscape, Incorporatedby Yogi of J@GUPDATE LIST.....FEBRUARY 1986----------COMMERCIAL----------TITLE....................COMPANYHERLOCK SHOLMES ADV F} ADVENTUREWRITER (CODEWRITER)FILEFAX OMNIWAREMYDOS 4 SWP MICROCOMPUTER PRODS.DOS 2.5 MAF }NUAL (FRENCH) ATARI FRANCENIBELUNGEN 2DISKS 4SIDES ARIOLASOFTLAPIS PHILOSOPHORUM ARIOLASOFTSCHRECTENSTEIN F!}AXISTHE PAYOFF ATARIKARRIERE ATARI ELEKTRONIKTURBO BASIC XL 1.5 HAPPY COMPUTERSPY VS F"}SPY II FIRST STARKARATEKA (IMMORTAL) BRODERBUNDF.R.E.E.
