This file is a general all purpose modem communications progran}m that turns your ATARI into a very smart terminal system. It will allow file transfers using XMODEM protocol. Now o}your ATARI can access an RCPM BBS that runs under the CP/M operating system as well as all ATARI BBS systems. Many AMISp} ATARI BBS systems also support XMODEM file transfer rules. The file may be listed here with command D. AMODEM4q}2 N Then captured and LISTed to disk or cassette. Then ENTERed into your ATARI. If you are using disk you mustr} be using DOS 2.0S with the interface "booted" by the AUTORUN.SYS file that was on your DOS MASTER disk. If you dos} not have the AUTORUN.SYS file that's needed--ALSO capture the file AUTOBBS. This program when RUN will make one for t}you. When you RUN AMODEM4.2, it will go into terminal mode at which time the user should dial the BBS. When the syu}stem connects, type a few s until the BBS responds. TRANSLATION - SELECT T will toggle the translation mov}de between ATARI (No translation-ATASCII) and ASCII (Light translation). Use ATARI on ATARI Systems and ASCII on RCPMw} Systems and all others. HAYES SMARTMODEM USERS NOTE: With ATARI translation and the HAYES, everything is as usual x}except hit -M instead of for example: ATD 7893610 MENU - For ATARI Disk systems, you may}y list your Menus with SELECT M or SELECT 1 or 2 or 3 or 4. To find files or space for new files. DUPLEX - For ATAz}RI to ATARI file transfer, you will need Half Duplex Since AMODEM sends no echo. You may toggle it with SELECT P. NOT{}E; Use ATARI Mode on each end. --------------------------------- NOTE: the commands XMODEM S and XMODEM R described|} below are for RCPM boards only! On ATARI BBS systems that use XMODEM protocol transfer rules, you do the following:}} After locating the program you wish to transfer, hit key and type R to tell the ATARI to get ready to receive from XMODEM. You must then provide a FILE}SPEC to which the ATARI will save the program. This does not necessarily have to be the same name as the BBS has it s}aved as. Once back in terminal mode, type the command; XMODEM S and then RETURN at which time the XM}ODEM controller will respond with a statement that it has opened its file and is prepared to transmit to your ATARI. To} begin the procedure, press the START key and sit back and relax. The XMODEM will send the file, which can be of any ty}pe. The screen will turn RED and when the file has been downloaded, your ATARI will save it to your filespec. When }the screen turns back to BLUE, the process is complete. TO UPLOAD - Reverse the procedure by pressing the SELECT and} S keys to indicate you will Send to XMODEM the ATARI . Then type; XMODEM R and RETU}RN which will tell XMODEM to prepare a filearea under that name to store the program you are going to send TO the BBS}. To initiate the upload, press the START key and the computers will take over. Your screen will turn GREEN until the } transfer is completed. TO CAPTURE DATA - Press SELECT then C and enter a filespec. To start press the START or OPT}ION key. All data that you see on the screen will be saved to memory. You may toggle the capture on and off with the }OPTION key. When you are done, or the buffer is full, you can press; SELECT and D. This will Dump the memory to your }filespec. NOTE ABOUT ATARI You may use any legal ATARI Device and filename and type. Example; D:MYFILE.}BAS or D2:YOUR.PGM C: or P: or R2: or E: Remember that you can't send from the Printer and you may send and r}eceive using the Editor (E:). Please leave any questions on the A.M.I.S.-CHICAGO BBS at 312-789-3610 } If you would like a copy on disk sent to you via FIRST CLASS mail, send a blank disk with your name, address, etc and} 40 cents in stamps to: Larry Hitz 1 North Wacker Drive Room 214 Chi}cago,Il. 60606rograx0Y95 -.*"#$%(,+-/ީ߭^ ^ }9 O H I B V BJKDXE V䩔3 *T B VB JKDXE V Q1 }4 *Tr5 *T LL1O,3 *T13 *TLI14 *TLI1܅3 *T Q4 *TMx^ }X9H6OM J <) 84 *T <) 9< G L JL24 *T Q L66 }4 *T QL1 JL1 6: BT6L16L~2:6R DK4 *T6:HK DKh N N4 *T66: } Q4 *TL2L DKR DKDž4 *T85 *T GS0M DKS DKU5 *TL1S DKh9x G } I5 *T QLA IS DKM DK慺5 *TL1 [L J0 B V0BJNKDXE V0 N 0 N 0 N }0 NiA *T+0 B V J G` Welcome to TSCOPE! It can also be used with the 850 Interface and other modems.***Note*** As TS}COPE supports the Compuserve B-Protocol for transferring files, it will NOT work on an ATARI BBS. TSCOPE does not support fil}e transfers to cassette.SETTING UP TSCOPEIf you are getting your copy of TSCOPE from SIG*ATARI, it will be in the form }of 3 CRE files. If your copy is already in the form of an 87 sector binary file, skip to the next section. To reCREate your }copy of TSCOPE, first prepare a DESTINATION disk with just DOS.SYS and DUP.SYS. Next, with BASIC in, ENTER"D:TSCOPA.CRE". Whe}n the file is loaded into memory, place your DESTINATION diskette in drive 1, and type RUN. When this part is finished, type }NEW and then ENTER and RUN part B. Type NEW and ENTER and RUN part C. If you've followed these instructions correctly, you sh}ould have an 87 sector file.Booting TSCOPEWhether you've reCREated TSCOPE from the CRE files or gotten your copy already} in binary form from a friend, it should be renamed to AUTORUN.SYS. Remove the BASIC cartridge, turn on the disk drive and an}y other peripherals first, then powerup your ATARI with this disk in drive 1. (Note- If you are using the 850 interface, you }do NOT need the usual 1 sector AUTORUN.SYS to boot the 850. This is included in your copy of TSCOPE)TSCOPE commandsTo s}ee a menu of available commands, hit the HELP key on XL models or the ATARI key on the 400/800 computers. When you see the ke}y-combo: CON-6 that means to hold down any of the CONsole keys and hit the number 6. The commands are self explainatory. To }quit TSCOPE and go to the DOS menu, you must have a disk with DUP.SYS in D1: and simultaneously depress a CONsole key, the CT}RL key, and the ESC key. The BREAK key sends a CTRL-C to Compuserve when online. Be careful not to hit the BREAK key when you} mean to hit the BACKSPACE. The CTRL-C will abort MOST Compuserve operations.Setting CIS to VIDTEX defaultsWhile TSCOPE} is not a full version of a Compuserve VIDTEX terminal program, it will support some of the VIDTEX functions, including the U}PL and DOW commands for file transfers, and the ONLINE color graphics available on various parts of the system. However, you }must ALSO configure your CIS terminal parameters to the VIDTEX standards. To do this, go to page CIS-9 and follow the menus. }When asked for a terminal type, pick VIDTEX. If TSCOPE will be the ONLY terminal program you will use on CIS, exit DEFAULT (i}tem 6), and when prompted, choose to make this configuration PERMANENT FOR ALL FUTURE SESSIONS.If, however, you are like ma}ny ATARI users, and will be using other terminal programs in addition to TSCOPE, you should do the following: 1-Follow the} same procedure as above, but when exiting, select to make these terminal defaults for the CURRENT SESSION ONLY. 2-Immedia}tely upon exiting the DEFAULT program, from any page of DISPLA, type 'PRO' to get to the OK prompt. Then to define the curren}t terminal settings as a unique file that can be invoked by a single name use the command: TER DEF VIDTEX. 3-Then, wheneve }r you log on to Compuserve in the future using TSCOPE,when prompted for your USER ID:, enter your PPN with an '*' and the nam }e of the terminal settings you wish to invoke. In our example, it might look like this: User ID:76703,254*VIDTEX If y }ou need assistance in defining alternate terminal configurations as in the example above, leave a message to the SYSOPs.FI }LE TRANSFERSTSCOPE will support file transfers ONLY on CIS using their ERROR-FREE B-Protocol. When you wish to UPLoad TO o }r DOWnload FROM Compuserve, the following conventions apply: 1-Use the (S)can or (BRO)wse commands in the XA's to determine} the exact name of the file on CIS you wish to DOWnload to your ATARI and save to disk. 2-To initiate the file transfer, u}se the command: DOW filename (where filename is the name of the pgm on Compuserve). 3-After the system determines you are }using TSCOPE or any VIDTEX compatible terminal program, it will ask you for a filename to be used by the ATARI when it saves }the program. Enter a full, valid ATARI filespec (it does not need to be the same name as the file on CIS) in the form: D:FILE}NAM.EXT 4-The system will then take over and write the program directly to your disk. You will be notified upon completion}, or if it aborted for any reason. To UPLoad a file from your ATARI to Compuserve, you must: 1-Have the file available o}n your disk. 2-Use the command: UPL filename (where filename is a valid Compuserve filename up to 6 letters with a 3 char.} extender). **Note** CIS places special importance upon the 3 letter extender when you select a filename. If you are uploadi}ng a binary file, you MUST use the extender BIN. 3-The system will ask you for the filespec of the program as it is named }on your disk. 4-When you UPLoad a file to our XA's, you will be expected to provide a few meaningful KEYWORDS. Enter 2-4 s}ingle keys, separated by a space. End KEYWORD input with . 5-You will be asked to provide a SHORT description expl}aining your program. Don't try to cram all the DOC into this space. This is ne}cessary to see textwritten under the Main Menu.DISKLINK'S FILE TRANSFER PROTOCOL DiskLink uses the well knownand w}idely used public domain filetransfer protocol called XMODEM,which was developed by WardChristensen for sending filesbetw}een CPM systems. (See fileXMODEM.DOC for the details of thisprotocol as explained by WardChristensen himself). Unfo}rtunatly for Atari users, the XMODEM protocol as initiallyimplemented did not includeprovisions for sending files thatare }not an exact multiple of 128bytes in length (i.e. most Atarifiles). Fortunately for Atari users, almost all the commo}nimplementations of XMODEM for theAtari happen to use the samegeneral approach to get aroundthis problem. They include i}n thelast 128-byte block of thetransmission a byte-count tellinghow much of that block containsvalid data. The Chameleon}terminal emulation program(written by John Palevich)includes this byte-count (afteradding 128) as the last byte ofthe la}st block. Both the AMODEMterminal program (written by JimSteinbrecher) and the AMISbulletin board system (written byTom }Geise and modified bySteinbrecher) replicate thebyte-count in all the unused bytesof the last block of thetransmission. }DiskLink replicatesthe byte-count in the manner ofAMODEM and AMIS when sending afile. However, it uses only thelow order} seven bits of the lastbyte of the last block indetermining the byte-count whenreceiving files. This gives itcompatibil}ity with Chameleon onthe one hand, and AMIS and AMODEMon the other. The down side ofthis is that DiskLink can't sendand }receive from CPM systems(where XMODEM originated!) Unfortunately, for otherreasons, DiskLink is notcompatible with t}he currentversions of the XMODEM protocol ineither AMIS and AMODEM as they nowfunction. In order to help outnovice users}, DiskLink allows twousers to type back and forth (in asomewhat halting fashion) DURINGfile transfer. This allows anexpe}rienced user to guide a noviceuser through his or her first fewfile transfers. Or, two users cantype to each other just t}oovercome the boredom of long filetransfers. This feature makes itnecessary for DiskLink to sendXOFF to stop the user at }the otherend from typing during disk readsand writes when characters typedwould otherwise "fall on thefloor". The curren}t version ofAMODEM (version 4.2) can'tdistinguish XOFF from SOH (whichstarts a transmission) so it"jumps the gun" and sta}rtsreceiving blocks before they aresent. The current version of AMIS(version ??) can't distinguishXOFF from CAN (which a}borts thefile transfer altogether) so itgives up before things even getstarted. Fortunately, both theseproblems are} minor and easy tofix. Updated versions of AMODEMand AMIS are available in Compuservedatabase XA2 under the names AMODEM.N}EW and AMIS-1.NEW (AMIS-1.NEW replacesAMIS-1.BBS -- AMIS-2.BBS remainsunchanged). Those of you whoalready have the curren}t versionsof these programs (fromCompuServe) can download just thechanges (AMODEM.MOD and AMIS.MOD)and ENTER them over yo}ur existingversions to save time. Unfortunately, there are quitea few copies of both these popularprograms floating }around. If youtry DiskLink and like it, pleasetake the time to pass one or bothof these updated versions on toyour favor}ite BBS. using a modem that connectsto the Atari 850 interface moduleyou will have to change DISKLINK'sname to AUTORUN.S $ e#Q e# $` `TuN% `l} L)`*) LE ) $ %Y g#L $`) %Q e# $}`) [ɛ&`BJ Y 8A ` z!i{!i!l})`Jȭ)0 4 ɛ)@ ` ) }` ) <% 1%) # #}x E% %X`))`JLEX # #x E% XJJ)# }1%) ! <%)0 ` <% }`J)@Lg"LE`,lHҥҩh@ؘH} ҙ !
