B} _____________________________________________________________________________FIXES AND ENHANCEMENTS:VC}er. 0.51-3-90 I fixed Snapshot to work with Atari Dos 2.5. I haven't had the chance to test it out on other dos' yet. Also,D} I've incluced SOFTBOOT.COM in the beta tester's package. Softboot.com allows you to have two different dos' in the computer E}at once. Directions for it's use are as follows:1- Boot Atari Dos 2.5 without RAMDISK.COM or the MEM.SAV file on the disk.2F}- Load SNAPSHOT.COM from the menu.3- Initialize the second snapshot with a shift-control-1.4- Load SOFTBOOT.COM from the meG}nu.5- Then Softboot asks you to put the new disk you want booted from into the drive and hit RETURN. What could be simpler? H}I'm working on making it more flexible. Also, I added a second way to switch between snapshots in addition to the shift-conI}trol-1 key combo. You may also use the HELP key to do this._________________________________________________________________J}____________Ver.1.0 This version is fully compatable with MyDos 4.5, Atari Dos 2.5, and Sparta Dos 3.2. By using SOFTBOOT.CK}OM you will be able to have one of the Infocom games running in one snapshot. I've tested Cutthroads and Hitchhiker's Guide tL}o the Galaxy with no problems. Snapshot is compatable with Atari Basic, but not Turbo Basic. It also works fine with TextPro.M} With the release of version 1.0, I'm placing it into the hands of the general public. There's still work that needs to be dN}one to Snapshot, but I feel that it is something that the general Atari computing public will find useful. Special thanks toO} my beta testers (you know who you are). Keep dropping in on the bbs and giving me your suggestions. If you find that neitheP}r the shift-control-1 or the HELP key works right with a certain application, here is a suggestion on what you can do. We areQ} going to patch Snapshot. DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS ON YOUR ONLY COPY OF SNAPSHOT. You risk damage to not only the program, but youR} could also damage the integrity of the disk itself. Anyway, load up your file/sector editor, and look for this in the disassS}embly-CMP #223 That's the hardware value of shift-control-1. Change it to any value that you feel would work good with yourT} application. ------------------ -----------------* LeBreak Plus * * Written By: ** Version 2! * *Miguel A. Ortiz** 09/25/ V}89 * * (C) 1989 *------------------ ----------------- This program was written using the ACTION! Cartridge and W}RUNTIME Package. Portions of this program are (C) by OSS, Inc. & ICD, Inc. SpartaDOS, & SDX are (C) ICD, Inc. ATARI DOS is X} (C) ATARI, Inc. This program is (S)hareWare and therefore released for purposes of free distribution. This program may b Y}e sent to any BBS as long as it is transfered in it's original state. Please do not modify nor re-release under any other na Z}me. ---***DISCLAIMER***--- As of the writing of this program I have found it to be bug-free and in perfect compli [}ance with the programing rules between the different OS systems of the ATARI 8-bit. But I DO NOT take any responsibility for \} any CRASHES or errors encountered on others systems. I have tested these programs on an 800xl, 800xl with 256k, and a 130xe ]}. All with an MIO attached and an XF551 disk drive. If you use this program it is out of your own conscience if something g ^}oes wrong.-------*NOTE:*------- I had released version 1 of LeBreak Plus on 9/15/89. I had made a mistake when I comp _}iled the program which caused the system to work only with systems that used SpartaDOS X. The mistake was found in the area `}of the STARTING address of the program. I had set it in an area where DOS resides and thus when you loaded my program, it wo a}uld over write portions of the DOS, causing it to crash and do weird things. Fortunately I was able to catch this in time an b}d have fixed this ERROR/BUG. So, this version will now work with ANY DOS that is out there. I am not 100% certain if the c}programs will run under MyDOS since I do not have it. But if you happen to run it under MyDOS and it doesn't work let me kno d}w and I will make a version that does by re-allocating the program in memory. I have tested the programs found in this ARC e} file under the following systems: ALL ATARI systems with atleast 48k of memory using these DOS's. ATARI DOS 2.0/2.5/ f}3.0 SpartaDOS 2.3/3.2cd SpartaDOS X---------*History*--------- I first learned of LeBreak when I first got my mo g}dem and began to call the local ATARI BBS in Miami. I found it interesting that text files could be displayed in a sequence h}of animation. This was WAY back in 1984 and back then I was young and very stupid. I picked up a copy of LeBreak Ten which i}I used a lot in the creation of small ATASCII animation sequences which were displayed on the BBS's. One famous 'ANIMATOR' w j}as TIM. He inspired me to create the animation and to enjoy it. The only problem was that LeBreak Ten lacked speed in every k}thing it did. So I gave up on ATASCII art and began to learn how to program and decided to write my own editor. In a matter l} of a few months I had already written various text editors which allowed me to do everything LeBreak Ten did but quicker and m} more effective. Back then I was using BASIC and time went on until I decided to create another 'LeBreak' clone, but this ti n}me in ACTION!. Now, before I continue I want to say that I am still finding new things to do with ATASCII graphics and amo o}ng them was to use text editors in order to create BBS welcome screens. Ack! I hated Profesional text editors because I cou p}ldn't do any free hand 'drawing'. (Or should I say that free hand drawing was a bit harder on a Text Editor.) So with the s q}mall use of my basic programs I combined a TEXT editor with them in order to create nice looking text files. Later on in tim r}e, as BBS's began to use faster baud rates. Many SysOps began to create their files with a little pi-zaz. Scrolling text, f s}izzle, spiralling, etc.. But this became difficult and time consuming for every one. There was a need for a program to do a t}ll of this for you. Low and behold I have one just for that. Actually two.. Introducing LeBreak Plus and LeBreak Plus u}Companion. These two programs have been created for those of you who would like to or need an easy to use Text editor and Sp v}ecial effects program. Now onto the programs.---------------*What is this?*---------------- Within the ARC file you s w}hould have found this DOC and two COM files; LBPLUS.COM & LBPC.COM. You should read this document first before you go off an x}d use the programs. There are limitations to everything and you should know which refer to your system.------------*LBPLU y}S.COM*------------ If you are familiar with Lebreak Ten, then this file will look similar to the older version. All that z} this file does is allow you the ease of use of free-hand editing so that you can either, use the output file the way it is o {}r use the Companion to dazzle it with some special effects.. What I mean by free hand drawing is this: Usually when you c |}reate a welcome screen for a BBS, the final result is a straight run file, meaning no cursor movements of any kind, etc.. Bu }}t EVERYONE makes mistakes and instead of deleting everything you made wrong you can just TYPEOVER it and then later on use th ~}e SNAPSHOT option from the COMPANION in order to get a good straight run file. So, practically the LBPLUS.COM file is a si }mple text editor that will pick up cursor movements, errors, etc while you are editing. I had originally intended for the bu }ffer to be 20,000 bytes long, but in order to do some special technics I had to give up 5,000 bytes. None-the-less, 15,000 b }ytes is quite a lot and should be enough for everyone. The Menu should be self explanatory, on top of the screen you will }always have the Current file name, the free memory, and the memory taken up by the current file. NOTE:*At any time, within B }OTH programs, while you are in the Main Menu you can press 'Esc' to exit to DOS.* LOAD and SAVE do just that. Just follow } the screen prompts in order to get it done. DOS Commands will give you the basic DOS routines for Rename, Delete, Lock, & } Unlock. You can exit from the program from this menu if you so desire by pressing the '*'. VIEW will allow you to emulat }e the BAUD rates of your local BBS's so that you can adapt your animations to which ever baud rate your files will be present }ed on. Choose from 300 to 9600 baud, 9600 being the normal screen output. CLEAR Memory will do just that. EDIT will al }low you to add/create to your file. Pressing SHIFT+TAB while in the editor will bring you back to the MAIN menu. (Note: W }ith this version of LeBreak Plus you will notice that the EDITING screen is slightly different. It now has one extra line on } top which will constantly let you know how much free buffer you have and how big your file is. I find this usefull since yo }u may have a limit as to the size of the file. The first version of LeBreak Plus did not have this helpfull option.) COMP }ANION, this is the reason for loosing 5,000 bytes. Choosing this option will load up the companion from the default drive, ( }drive 1 for ATARI DOS's and SpartaDOS 2.3/3.2, for SDX it will look in which ever drive you called up LBPLUS from.), you must } make sure that these files are where they are supposed to be.-----------*Companion*----------- The reason for the com }panion is so that you can add some special effects to your files. The program runs under a menu much like LBPLUS with the di }fference in the EDIT Buffer. EDIT will bring up another menu with 7 different special effects. Each of which are self exp }lanatory. Try them out on a file and see what you can do. The Companion will recall the LBPLUS file which must be in the }default drive as well.---------*Technic*--------- The beauty of these programs is that when you call either/or the buf }fer will not be lost between the loading. Therefore if you are creating a large text file or an intricate one, you can call }up the programs at any time and no memory will be lost. You can even count on the filename to stay in memory! So what you } have here is an advanced edition of Lebreak Ten. With many helpfull and FAST routines. Enjoy!----------------*Technical }ities*---------------- Here are the yes's and no's of LeBreak Plus; LeBreak Plus WILL: 1) Run under ANY DOS. MyDOS }??? 2) Keep memory intact between the transitions of LBPLUS and LBPC. 3) Makes text editing simple. 4) Saves time }and effort. 5) Big Buffer space. 6) Work with SDX! 7) It's FREE! 8) Ideal for BBS files, etc.. LeBreak Plus WILL N }OT: 1) Allow you to exit to DOS and return without loosing your buffer. (Sorry, on my next version I will } fix that.) *I left this part here to show *the upgrades that have come along *between versions. LeBreak Plus } *will now allow you to exit to DOS *and returning to the program to *find the memory intact as long *as you us }e SpartaDOS or SDX and *you do not run any programs that *will over write these memory *locations: $2367 - $5324 } *As long as you follow these rules *then you can go in and out of *LB + without loosing anything. 2) Load ei }ther or, (LBPLUS/LBPC) if the files are not within the default drive. 3) Allow you to rename the files, (LBP }LUS/LBPC) and still work.-----------*SDX Users*----------- SpartaDOS X users can use these programs without the need }to use the 'X' directive. The programs were written using SDX and I made sure that it would work without a hitch.--------- }-*Finally!*---------- Well, that is about it for now. I hope that those of you who use this program will enjoy it and w }ill take advantage of the abilities within the program. I know many of you out there will like these programs for creating w }elcome screens, etc... If you do not like the black background color you can change it by creating a file called: LB.CNFP }lace in it the ATASCII characters whose value will equal the POKE's for the colors you want. The file MUST contain two chara }cters. The first will go into location 710 and the second into location 709. (Background and Character Luminance respective }ly.) The file MUST be in the drive for which you called LBPLUS or LBPC from! Yes you can RUN either file alone. And you }can call each other no matter which one was loaded first. I regret that users of ATARI DOS can not exit DOS and return to an } intact buffer, but I still have a LOT to learn. This may also apply to users of MyDOS. If you have ANY comments and or s }uggestions feel free to leave them to me in CompuServe and or any BBS you know I am on. If there are ANY bugs which I have o }ver looked please tell me and I will fix them for my next version. This is a (S)hareWare and therefore I will appreciate A }NY letters or donations. I will not put a PRICE on this program since I feel the users will know how much it is really worth }. If you are willing to send something do so to: Mike Ortiz 15145 S.W. 305th Terrace Homest }ead, FL. 33033 If you are on CompuServe you can get in touch with me via EasyPlex or on the message bases through my accou }nt. (S)hareWare V X X X &S``pCALENDAR by Benjamin Bartels This program was written to organize my life by keeping trackof events, birthdays, and }anniversaries thoughout the year.I've tried other calendar programs such as the public domain versionwritten in Basic. Alt}hough it was a nice program overall, it was slowand very limited. My next venture was the SYNCRON calendar program writ}ten bySynapse. Although the displays were attractive and user friendly, the program took too long to operate, used a whole }disk, and only kept two years per data disk. SYNCRON is good for keepingjournals or diaries on, but for daily memos it prov}ed to be rathercumbersome. Thus the Calendar was born. I included the features which Ineeded and also some suggestion}s from friends and colleagues. I'msure you will benefit from the program as much as I do. I didn'tbother with fancy title}s or packaging to help cut cost and passthe savings on to you. I also didn't bother with any protection schemes or deti}cateddisk formats. This will allow you to transfer the Calendar forbacking up or multiple data disks. Also the calendar d}ata may be stored on the same disk as theCalendar program, thus avoiding disk swapping. I won't harp on andon about piracy} or illeaglebackups. I'll mearly mention that it will only raise the prices offuture projects.BASIC OPERATION The C}alendar program is able to display the days for any monthand any year from 0 AD through the year 65,000 (hopefully I'll writ}e anew program by then). There are three types of messages to enterunder any day: memos, global, and time messages. T}o pick a day to enter a message on, use the curser controlkeys (even without pressing the control button). If you desire a}different month press the parenthases keys "()" (even withoutpressing the shift button). The left parenthese will decrease }themonth and the right one will increase the month. To alter theyear, use the same method with the "<>" keys. The mos}t used entries will most likely be the memos. Positionthe calendar curser on any given day and press return. A windowwill} appear over the calendar and allow you to enter any memo forthat day. Such memos would be anything from car check ups tot}rips to grandmothers house. Pressing "G" will add a global message to the calendar. Globalmessages are similar to memo}s except that the entry will appearin the same month and day for any given year. Such an entry would bebirthdays, annivers}aries, or any annual event. The third message type is a time entry, obtained by pressing"T". It looks similar to a mem}o except for the time margin on theleft side of the window. This entry will most likely be used bybusiness men (and women)} so the times range from 7:00 to 5:00(during business hours). The tab key may be used to jump to the endof the time margin} and begin a single time entry. Such entriesmay be meetings, lunch appointments, or other time relatedactivities. If }you wish to set an appointment on times that are notexactly on the hour you may want to use the following pattern. Once in}the time entry, press return until you arrive at the particular hourto change; 12:00 for example. Pressing the tab key will} positionyou just beyond the last zero. Pressing the delete/backspace keytwice will delete the two zeros in the 12:00 peri}od. Now type in 15to change the time from 12:00 to 12:15. Press another space andenter a message like "lunch with the bos}s". Of course doing thismeans you forfit the 12:00 position so beware. [RETURN]=memo add/edit G=global add/edit T}=time add/editEDIT MODE On any day, pressing the return, "G", or "T" keys willdisplay the edit window, that days mes}sage (if it exists), and sendyou into the edit mode. This mode will allow modifications oradditions to be made on any entr}y in the calendar. Most of the keysperform their normal editing function; return, del/bs, insert, clear. The escape key wi}ll terminate the editing session andsave the entry into the calendar. The option button will abort anychanges to the curre}nt entry and return you to the calendar. Thestart button will print the current message to the printer (if it isturned on)}. After a message has been entered a symbol will appear on theday you entered the message. A symbol in the center of t}he daywill indicate a memo exists. A symbol to the right indicates aglobal entry, the symbol to the left, a time entry. } [ESC]=exit message window [OPTION]=abort current message [START]=print current messageDELETING MESSAGES } To delete a message from the calendar, position the cursor overthe day you wish to delete a message from. Once positioned,}press "D" to delete a memo message. A window at the bottom of thescreen will ask "ARE YOU SURE?" verifying the operation. } Answerwith a "Y" if you wish to continue the delete or any other key willabort the deletion process. To delete a glob}al message press "K" to kill the message. Pressing an "E" will erase a time message. D=delete memo K=kill global }entry E=erase time entryLOADING AND SAVING The messages entered into the calendar are stored in memory andmust }be saved to disk before quitting the session. To save themessages in memory press the "S" key. A window will appear on the}bottom of the screen asking for a file name. Enter a filename usingthe standard naming convention; eight characters max, a}ll capitalletters, beginning with A-Z, three character extender. If you wish tochange the drive number, position the curso}r over the drive numberand enter the new number. After the name has been entered, themessages will be saved and you are re}turned to the calendar. Pressing "L" will ask for a filename to load from the disk.Use the same naming convention as wi}th the save function to retrivethe messages. S=save messages L=load messagesYOTHER DOS FUNCTIONS To look at the index (directory) of a disk, press the"I" key and enter the drive number you wish to} look at. To protect afile, press the "#" key. To unprotect a file, press the "U"key. If you wish to rename a file, pres}s "R" and enter the currentfilename to change. Then enter the filename you wish to change it to. I=index disk directo}ry #=protect file U=unprotect file R=rename filePRINTING At some point you will probably want to list }your messagesto the printer. Pressing "P" will send you to the print menu whereyou may choose to print the messages or the} actual calanderitself. If you choose the messages you will then be asked if you wantthe messages to go to the screen or t}he printer. Sending them to thescreen will allow scanning of messages without printing them. If the calander option wa}s chosen, it will skip the outputmenu and will assume you want the calander to be printed on theprinter since it is already} displayed on the screen. The next menu will ask that days you want printed; the currentyear, current month, or by user} input. If the current year ormonth option is selected, the program will continue to the nextfunction. If the user input }is chosen, you will be asked to inputthe start day. Position the calander cursor on the day, month, and year to begin the p}rinting and press return. You will then beasked for the day in which you want the printing to end. If the calander mod}e was chosen earlier, the program willbegin printing the actual calander to the printer. If the messageswere selected in t}he first menu, another menu will show whichmessages it will print or display; time, memos, or global. To turn aparticular }type on or off, position the cursor on the appropriate lineand press the left or right arrow keys. A "YES" indicates that i}twill print that message type while a "NO" will not. Pressing returnfrom this menu will begin the print or display of mess}ages. P=print messages or calander CALANDER MESSAGES --- TO PRINTER TO SCREEN BY CURRENT YEAR BY }CURRENT MONTH BY USER INPUT --- START DAY END DAY TIME MESSAGES NO MEMO MESSAGES YES } GLOBAL MESSAGES YESFIND To find a particular phrase in the message files, press "F" and awindow will appear at th}e bottom of the screen asking for your searchphrase. Enter the phrase and press return to begin the search process. Once a} match has occurred, the message containing the match willbe displayed on the screen along with a find menu at the bottom of}the screen. From here you can press the escape key to exit, return to find the next occurrence, "F" to search on a new phra}se, or"P" to print the found message to the printer. F=find phrase [RETURN]=find next occur. [ESCA}PE]=exit F=new find P=print messageHELP If you need help while in the calander press "H" to displ}ay ashort help screen. This is just a brief description of the keyboardcommands you may execute. Press any key to exit th}e help screen. If you don't like to memorize the keyboard commands from thecalander you don't have to use most of them.} Simply run the calandercurser off the bottom of the calander and you will be put in themain menu on the bottom of the scr}een. Run the curser along themenu until you land on the option of your choice, then press return. H=helpCHANGE } If you dislike the calander colors I have chosen or if you wantJulian dates instead of standard dates, press "C" to enable} thechange menu. The change menu will allow you to alter many items onthe calander and save the changes for later use. So}me of the optionsare mentioned below. C=changeCOLOR Press return on the color option and another menu will app}earallowing you to change the background, letter, and bordercolors. Position the curser on the item you wish to change and} pressreturn. The color will change every time you press return on anycolor item. When finished altering the colors, position the curser back over the "color" option} to exit the colormenu.VERIFY If you notice that every time you delete a message, the programwill ask you "ARE YOU S}URE?". You may eliminate this step by turningoff the verify. Pressing return on this option will toggle the verifyon or o}ff.MESSAGE CHARACTERS If you wish to change the symbols on the calander for memos, time messages, or globals, press re}turn on this option to displayanother menu. The first three choices allow you to alter thesymbols displayed on the calande}r. The fourth choice allows you tochange the character that creates the calander border then calanderis sent to the printe}r. Position the curser on the option you wish to change and pressreturn. Press any key that you wish to replace it with and press returnto exit the window.TAB LENGTH Pres}sing return on this option will display the current tablength. Using the left and right arrow keys you may alter the length}of the tab from zero to seven.SAVE DEFAULTS If you want these changes to be in effect the next time you runthe calan}der, put a disk with the calander program in drive one andpress return. This will create a file called "CALANDER.DEF" and w}illload the changed defaults.ESCAPE KEY The escape key will get you out of most menu operations. Pressing escape wil}l back you out and send you to the previous menuoption. It just may be the second most important key on the keyboard.WELL}, THAT'S IT I think that covers all the options. I hope you will get manyyears of use out of it while having fun skipp}ing thru all of the menus. This project was quite a challenge for me but I think I got thiswindowing thing down pat now. My} next project will hopefully be adatabase program in the same fast, simple, windowy way. If you seesome areas of improveme}nt, things you like to see, or comments ingeneral, please send me a letter so that I may improve my programs inthe future. } Thank you.BENJAMIN BARTELS33`4^L4 T*++j4!/0;10 B ^4 ,C ? 3? j?
