Read the appendix-info at the} end of this document...---------------------------------------What does this 'thing' do ???----------------------------}-Uhh, actually not much. Since a whilei'm running a BBS on the ATARI 8-Bitterusing BBS-Pro! 5.0b running on anATARI 130X}E with a Black-Box and SCSIharddisks. It's using the 3.3b versionof Sparta-Dos and that's exactly thereason why i wrote th}is little util.I have 2 676Mb harddisks so i almostalways have to make 16Mb partitions onthe HD if i want to take full adv}antageof the available disk-space.Nothing special, but, to make life alittle easier i created a whole bunchof batch-files} and they are allinstalled in the root (or main)directory to acces them in an easy way,no matter in what directory i am at}that moment. The problem is (was) thatSparta-Dos only can handle a max. of127 files in a directory. So, sincei've got a l}ot of directories and somebatch-files in the root-directory, it'sfillin' up real quickly. To the point !--------------}This util only runs batchfiles, butonly that one that are installed in aspecial reserved directory, >BATCH.An example. Whe}n you start-up theprogram you can choose which batch-fileto run. Pressing 'F' will execute thefile 'BATCH_F.BAT' in the ba}tch-dir.Well, i think this is not hard tounderstand. Legal key-presses are: 0 => 9 and A => Z.They all starting} the batch-file:D:>BATCH>BATCH_x.BAT, where 'x' is thekey you pressed. There are some exceptions...RETURN will activate t}he fileSTARTUP.BAT from the ROOT-Directory,and SPACE will load the DEFAULT.BAT,also from the ROOT-Directory.DEFAULT.BAT }is a special option. Whenyou start the BAT_MENU.COM file anddid not press a key within 30 seconds,it will automaticly acti}vate theDEFAULT.BATch file. That option ishandy in my case. When i startup mycomputer it's starting up Sparta-Dosand when} loaded it will load theStartup.Bat file. That batch-file says'BAT_MENU' so every time i turn it oni automaticly get this }menu. My 'BBSbatch-file' is named: DEFAULT.BAT.In that menu i can choose what to load, like BobTerm, Term 80 or the ChaosM}usic Composer i.e, but when i justwait (or press space) it will load theBBS config and goes on-line. Real handywhen you wa}nna starting-up using ahardware-way to turn on the computerwith a timer or somethin'...Other options:--------------In }the menu are also 3 other options: '+' turns basic ON and exits; '-' turns basic OFF and exits; Control/Shift/TAB will re}boot the computer immediatly (JMP $C2C8); ESCAPE does a 'clean exit', this meansrestore all inited values before the}menu was started up, like the DisplayList and Interrupt info, the VBI info, the color-registers, etc...When you do an ill}egal keypress it willjust 'clean exit' to DOS...The BATCH-MENU program will neverchange to another directory. It willsta}y in the current directory where youare at that moment when it is called. If you want to run BobTerm by pressing'B' and it }is installed in thedirectory >COMM>BOBTERM> you'rebatchfile should like this:CWD >COMM>BOBTERMBOBTERMand the batchfile} must be named:BATCH_B.BAT and must be written to the>BATCH directory. When you press 'B'it will load >BATCH>BATCH_B.BAT a}nd inthat file resides the needed info. When the file doesn't excist, it willdo a 'clean exit'...A little dis-advantage (}or not)...----------------------------------The keyboard buffer must be enabledwhen using this util. If not, theprogram w}ill turn it on automaticly, but does NOT turn it off on exit...Since there are some programs that willnot work with a keybo}ard-buffer, youmust add 'KEY OFF' in the batch-fileyou choosen to start-up that program. The EDITOR (bat_edit.bas)------}------------------- MEMLO must be LOWER than $2000 !!!Sorry, but this program is realATARI-basic, cause i have'nt got t}heknowledge how to handle strings inassembly, and in basic this is peanuts.Just go to basic and run it. It willask the p}ath and filename where it willfind the BATch-menu com-file.Then it will ask the same for thedestination, or, the new path }andfilename to write the modified versionto. You can enter '!' to exit at thatmoment. After that (when it is loadedinto m}emory) you can edit each entryto insert you're own information thathad to be appear after each 'key'. (capital input only} at here)You can enter max. 12 characters, butit you choose an entry from the mostright row, it's recomended to use only1}1 of them, cause the last character ofthe entries O => Z will maybe not fiton your screen... You can use everykind of char}acter EXCEPT controlcharacters. If you use them, they willbe responsible for a nice effect whenthe program starts to conve}rt them fromASCII to Internal characters :-)Well, that's it i think. You can enteranything you want, 'key X' will stilll}oad the batch_X.bat file.BATCH-MENU 0.2 APPENDIX----------------------- (BAT_MNU2.COM / 1-Oct.1996)This menu does exa}ctly the same as theversion 0.1 EXCEPT... it has not ahardcoded display. Instead of that itwill load an (AT)ASCII text-fil}e fromthe >BATCH> directory when you start itup. The file name must be BATCH.TXT. (util does 'TYPE >BATCH>BATCH.TXT' to } display the info on the screen...)In this version the keyclick will bedisabled and enabled again on exit. All feature's }are as mentioned in theversion 0.1, incl. the BASIC-ON/OFF,EXIT, STARTUP.BAT and DEFAULT.BAT keys.It still activates >BATC}H>BATCH_x.BATbatch-files...Use your favourite text-editor tocreate that file and save it as anASCII text-file. You can us}e the fullscreen-wide (40 characters on 1 line).
