Snapshot is compatible with the Rambo ram upgrade from ICD.Synopsis: d} Snapshot allows you to have two virtual computer systems in your computer at one time.NOTICE: You are e} using this at your own risk. Every attempt has been made to assure the functionality of this software. However f}, Snapshot has only been used with a very narrow range of both hardware and software. Unpredictab g}le results may occur resulting in the loss of data. Send comments, suggestions, complaints, and b h}ug reports to the BBS listed in this documentation file. If you have a problem with Snapshot, be i}sure to include the following information: Computer used, memory upgrade used, software and type j}of dos used, peripherals used, and any other info you might think useful in diagnosing the problem.Restrictio k}ns: This software may NOT be sold. It may be freely distributed as long as this documentation file accompanies l}the software._____________________________________________________________________________ Ever wish that you had instan m}taneous access to a certain utility, wordprocessor, or dos while running another program? Now you can, usingSnapshot. By si n}mply pressing shift-control-1 you can switch between twodifferent applications in just a few micro-seconds. This is ideal fo o}r bbsoperators who want to have a program like TextPro available in a momentstime, and then switch back to their bbs. And y p}ou can do this without takingthe bbs down. You have two virtual computers residing in the same system. You are limited only q}by your imagination. Well, not really. There are a fewlimitations to Snapshot. Snapshot definetly isn't compatible with r}Atari Dos 2.5 (I'm working onit...). You will probably run across programs that are incompatible withSnapshot. These incomp s}atability problems will probably be lessened withsubsequent releases of Snapshot. The way to be sure that you are using the t}most recent version of Snapshot is to call the Closer To Home BBS at419-368-4413. This is the official support bbs for Snaps u}hot. Any questions, comments, and suggestions concerning Snapshot are welcome. Just send themto the Sysop there (me), and I' v}ll be sure and give you a speedy reply._____________________________________________________________________________Directi w}ons for use of Snapshot After booting Sparta Dos, just load Snapshot as you would any othernormal .COM file. You will se x}e a short message printed telling you thatSnapshot has installed itself. You are now looking at the first of twovirtual sys y}tems living in your computer! Load something new in, like yourfavorite utility. When you have done this, press and hold shif z}t-control-1until you hear a buzzing sound coming from your speaker. This buzz is madeby Snapshot to let you know that it ha {}s accepted your request to switch tothe second system. When you hear this buzz, release the keys you arepressing or Snapsho |}t may instantly switch back to the first system. After this you will be looking at the second system's screen. It looksj }}ust like the same screen you saw right after loading Snapshot. This isbecause Snapshot made a snapshot of the computer memor ~}y (process image) andthe cpu image, and has now brought it into the foreground. Load in another program into the second }system. From now on allyou have to do to switch between the two virtual systems is press and holdshift-control-1. Note: } Snapshot may hang up if you use Sparta's BASIC ON or BASIC OFFcommands. This should be no problem since all you have to do }is hitreset to get control back again. Snapshot should still be there, and soshould the second process.___________________ }__________________________________________________________The future Watch for future developments and enhancements to S }napshot. I'll beworking to make Snapshot compatible with as much software as possible. I'mcurrently working on a way to hav }e two different Dos' loaded in at the sametime. Tom Hunt } 01/01/90_____________________________________________________________________________ }If you use and enjoy Snapshot, and are feeling generous, why not drop a buck in an envelope and mail it to:Tom Hunt1704 Tw }p.Rd.65Jeromesville, Oh44840 A dollar isn't much. But since this is shareware, what the heck? And if you arefeeling even }more generous, jot down on a note telling me what software you are using Snapshot with, and how it benefits you. } _____________________________________________________________________________FIXES AND ENHANCEMENTS:V }er. 0.51-3-90 I fixed Snapshot to work with Atari Dos 2.5. I haven't had the chance to test it out on other dos' yet. Also, } I've incluced SOFTBOOT.COM in the beta tester's package. Softboot.com allows you to have two different dos' in the computer }at once. Directions for it's use are as follows:1- Boot Atari Dos 2.5 without RAMDISK.COM or the MEM.SAV file on the disk.2 }- Load SNAPSHOT.COM from the menu.3- Initialize the second snapshot with a shift-control-1.4- Load SOFTBOOT.COM from the me }nu.5- Then Softboot asks you to put the new disk you want booted from into the drive and hit RETURN. What could be simpler? }I'm working on making it more flexible. Also, I added a second way to switch between snapshots in addition to the shift-con }trol-1 key combo. You may also use the HELP key to do this._________________________________________________________________ }____________Ver.1.0 This version is fully compatable with MyDos 4.5, Atari Dos 2.5, and Sparta Dos 3.2. By using SOFTBOOT.C }OM you will be able to have one of the Infocom games running in one snapshot. I've tested Cutthroads and Hitchhiker's Guide t }o the Galaxy with no problems. Snapshot is compatable with Atari Basic, but not Turbo Basic. It also works fine with TextPro. } With the release of version 1.0, I'm placing it into the hands of the general public. There's still work that needs to be d }one to Snapshot, but I feel that it is something that the general Atari computing public will find useful. Special thanks to } my beta testers (you know who you are). Keep dropping in on the bbs and giving me your suggestions. If you find that neithe }r the shift-control-1 or the HELP key works right with a certain application, here is a suggestion on what you can do. We are } going to patch Snapshot. DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS ON YOUR ONLY COPY OF SNAPSHOT. You risk damage to not only the program, but you } could also damage the integrity of the disk itself. Anyway, load up your file/sector editor, and look for this in the disass }embly-CMP #223 That's the hardware value of shift-control-1. Change it to any value that you feel would work good with your } application.
