Each player in turn calls out a grid reference hopi.}ng to strike at their opponents ships and eventually hoping to go on to win the game. The grid can be of any size with letter.}s of the alphabet along one axis and numerals along the other axis so that each square on the grid can be referenced by a let.}ter and a number. The program uses a 9x9 grid (or chart) referenced with letters of the alphabet marking the horizontal axis.} and numerals marking the vertical axis. The game is played by ONE player against the computer with your ships being randomly.} placed upon your grid. START is pressed to begin the game, with the starter (either yourself or the computer) being chosen a.}t random. The game continues until all of your ships or all of the computers ships have been hit. The game commences with the.} following ships on both sides.... 5 Submarines 4 Cruisers 3 Frigates 2 Destroyers 1.} Air craft carrierTHE SCREENThe screen is basically divided into 3 sections, the top section being the main screen area.} which displays the grids in blue. The central section consisting of a single green line contains all prompts and is where yo.}ur co-ordinates are entered. The bottom section coloured brown and consisting of two lines records the remaining ships.TH. }E TWO GRIDSThe program defines two screens, one containing your grid (and ships) and the other containing the computers gri.!}d. The program flips between the 2 screens as necessary recording all hits and misses on the appropriate grid. The two grids ."}are designed slightly differently to enable each grid to be easily recognised. All hits are recorded in inverse on the approp.#}riate grid, you don't of coarse know where the computers ships are placed, until you hit them that is and all misses are reco.$}rded as an oval blob.PLAYING THE GAMEWhen entering your co-ordinates you are presented with your enemies shipping chart.%} (the computers grid) and your co-ordinates are entered by first selecting a letter from A to I followed by a numeral from 1 .&}to 9. If you try to enter a previously entered co-ordinate, then the repeated entry will be erased and another entry prompted.'} for. After entering the numeral, you hear the sound of your gun fire after which your strike is recorded upon your enemies c.(}hart either as a hit or as a miss. The program then flips to your shipping chart after which your enemy (the computer) fires .)}back and again the strike is recorded, but upon your chart this time. After your enemies strike, the co-ordinates are noted o.*}n screen and if a hit has been achieved, your ship will be heard to explode. Whether the enemy (the computer) has registered .+}a hit or a miss, a key must be pressed in order to continue with entering your next co-ordinates which allows you time to stu.,}dy your shipping chart before the program flips back to your enemies chart. Whenever a hit is achieved, the bottom section of.-} the appropriate chart recording the remaining ships is amended accordingly.SOUND EFFECTSWhenever you are prompted to e..}nter your co-ordinates, you may if you wish toggle the sound effects on/off by pressing ESCAPE. When the sound effects are tu./}rned off, apart from a hit being shown in inverse in the usual way upon the grid, a hit is also indicated by highlighting the.0} background colour of the appropriate chart. This makes a hit more obvious which may otherwise be overlooked without the soun.1}d effects, the background colour of the chart being restored to normal for its next presentation.overlooked without the soun,b0FFNMILNNN1LN5327MZNPN163N1N1N2TNNPMN102N25DN20NUNCLUNN1WDCKANMIXN2NDSHN523}N1WN6NMAN25DLSCORMINSECN14SCNPFMN4NN10RN10N55N5428CCHDLIVBIN163CLUNUN1 24}@@@ @(( A B2y l @22A8@@25}@ @@@BhdA$AV<A@@@@ b !226} "A#x $% &@%'@( )@P*@+A,H-@`.@/@0AU1P27}2345AHA67A89@: ;@<=@@>@ ?A@A`28}AABAYCBBDXXEXXFn;;G**HIJ !!!!|29}ΠǠҠ͠Ӡ|!!| WRITTEN BY JOHN FOSKETT |(!!|VERSION II DECEMBER 1996|2!!|ƠϠҠԠנՠǠ|<!!2:}F AP堛Z; A06.6-B:," (-1( ; @d4 -2;}4($ghRE-ENTER NAME ghPLAYn\ 6-F:," A "-1( R6-?:C:,}AH:@:7,,%A`,< D-2A}(6-P:H:,$,%(7<,4*AP"*"AP$67<,.7<, 67<,.*$ 9-@P&B:,'/(A2B}NAGRAM FOR 5-9(",( --%((>:@:7,,%@2,6;2&$6-?:C:,<,)22C}76-?:C:,<,; @렛J8 -&(PLEASE ENTER YOUR ANSWER.( ?4-8(TB -"(P2D}RESSghFOR A CLUE(6-2 A084B A`^ 0 AhK6-?:C:,<,6-?:C:,<,# - APK6-?:C:2E},:,067<,.>:,( "-%&(>:,(67<,.>:, A J"A&*! upon solving anagrams for which you:} are awarded a score and if good enough, is entered into the Hi-score table stored on the disk. You are given a total of 18 a:}nagrams to solve, 6 seven letter words, 5 eight letter words, 4 nine letter words and 3 ten letter words. You are allowed ONE:} clue per anagram which is obtained by pressing ESCAPE which reveals the correct position of one of the characters in the wor:}d but you loose points for each clue requested. The penalty deducted from your score for requesting clues applies even if you:} get the anagram wrong. You are allowed time (about 6 minutes) to solve the anagrams afterwhich your final score is deducted :}accordingly, dropping towards zero in about half an hour depending upon your scoring rate. If you really can't solve a partic:}ular anagram, you may reject it to save time by entering any character and pressing RETURN. The RETURN key is disabled when t:}here is a blank entry which helps to prevent accidental rejection of the anagrams. When the program is run, the Hi-score tab:}le stored on the disk is read and displayed on the screen together with a prompt to press START to continue. The Hi-score tab:}le accommodates upto 20 names along with their associated scores and is displayed in 2 columns. If the disk does not contain :}a Hi-score table (file name ANAGRAM.TAB) then the program will write a new blank table to the disk and display this instead. :}Upon pressing START to continue, you are prompted to enter your name using at least 3 characters and a maximum of 10. If less:} than 3 characters are entered, the entry is cleared and another entry requested. After entering a name, START is pressed to :}continue or OPTION is pressed to re-enter the name. Upon pressing START, the main screen is presented and the first anagram g:}iven, the time begins at this point. After solving (or attempting to solve) all 18 anagrams, your final score is displayed al:}ong with your name, the total number of clues you required and the overall time taken in minutes and seconds. If your score i:}s less than or equal to the last entry in the Hi-score table, then you will not qualify for entry into the table. If your sco:}re does qualify for entry into the Hi-score table, then your name and score will appear in the correct position and everybody:} below will be moved down one place in the usual way, the last entry dropping out of the table altogether. The Hi-score table:} on the disk is automatically updated whenever a score qualifies for entry.g out of the table altogether. The Hi-score table8L} } Lll L"! L"! VL"! l Lq!! If the ball crosses the line behind your bat, then a miss is registered or in other words,Ko} a goal is scored against you. To score a goal you must get the ball past the moving obstacles, avoiding the stationary obstaKp}cles, all of which will return the ball to you. You must be alert at all times, anticipating the balls bounce, you have no tiKq}me to rest, one mistake allowing the ball to get behind your bat and you are in trouble. There is a timing bar at the bottomKr} of the screen along which a marker travels slowly from right to left displaying the elapsed game time. When the marker reachKs}es the left hand end of the timing bar, the game is over and the final score is displayed on screen. At any time during play,Kt} OPTION may be pressed for early exit, ending the game play before the timing marker reaches the end of the timing bar.The Ku}game is played using a joystick in port 1 and START is pressed to begin the game. The game continues until either the game tiKv}me elapses or OPTION is pressed for early exit. The ball is served from the goal line automatically towards your bat which yKw}ou must strike otherwise the ball will cross the line behind your bat and a miss will be registered, that is a goal scored agKx}ainst you. The angle at which the ball leaves the bat is dependent upon the position of the joystick at the time, no matter wKy}hat angle the ball was travelling which allows you to choose the balls direction when hit. If the joystick was central at theKz} time the ball is hit, then the direction the ball will leave the bat is a direct reflection, in other words, a normal bounceK{}. Every now and then, the moving obstacles change their movement pattern which prevents you from settling into a rythm and keK|}eps you on your toes.the moving obstacles change their movement pattern which prevents you from settling into a rythm and keH
