ATARI800

Atari800 was written by David Firth. This emulator is fast, highly compatible, and highly portable.

Like ACE, Atari 800 is distributed as source code, and it compiles for a wide range of platforms/configurations. This emulator has been ported to MS-DOS and Windows (see link below)

David has been too busy to do much work on the Emulator lately, but other people, Perry McFarlane, Rich Lawrence, Thomas Richter, Radek Sterba and Petr Stehlik have.

Platforms: Models Emulated: All, including 5200 game system
Emulated:CTIA/GTIA, 5200, Display Lists, DLI's, P/M graphics with collision detection, fine scrolling, Printer Support, Joystick support, disk swapping, sound (now with Ron Fries' routines!!!!)
Compatibility: High, I'd estimate 80-85%
Current Version: 0.9.6
Authors: David Firth, Perry McFarlane, Rich Lawrence, Thomas Richter, Radek Sterba and Petr Stehlik.

Pros:

Has built-in monitor, Supports .XFD/.ATR files. SVGAlib mode is fast. Direct Video is faster, but doesn't always get colors right. Has H: device for reading off native filesystem. (Replaces C: ) This emulator seems to have one of the highest, compatability rate of the emulators on this page. All versions should now have full speed toggle and disk flipping capability. I consider the fact that it runs under Linux a plus.

Cons:

It's rather slow. I can't get it to run full speed on my P-233 with sound. It'll run full speed without sound. Around version 0.4.x, this emulator was very fast. I keep hoping that it'll get the speed back.
