Why is this here? After all it is an Atari 5200 emulator, not a full
Atari Computer Emulator. Well, I figured that since a 5200 is practically an
Atari 8-bit internally (with a few minor changes), and since several of the
Computer emulators offer 5200 emulation, I would include any dedicated 5200
emulators that might exist.
VSS seems to have most of the features implemented. It's biggest
challange seems to be speed. It's one of the slowest of all the Atari
emulators. You'd probably need a decent Pentium to get this to run at
full speed.
Platform:MS-DOS
Models Emulated:5200
Emulated:CTIA, Display Lists, DLI's, P/M graphics with collision
detection, fine scrolling, joysticks, sound
Compatibility: Good.
Current Version: 0.79
Author: Dan
Pros:
Good emulation. Runs games that most other emulators won't (like Gyruss).
Now has sound, using Ron Fries' pokey sound library, although this hangs
on my system.
Cons:
Kind of slow. enabling frame skipping seems to slow the emulation down even
more.
