It's a BloodBath in Hell!

Story:
From outside the base you hear the carnage: guns firing, bones cracking...then silence.

Suddenly you're the last surviving marine thrust into a bloody, gore ridden under-world 50 million miles into the future.

It's Doom to the 64th power with 16-bit true color, advanced lighting effects...and some new parts of hell you'll wish we didn't include in this version.

Overview:
"Cheesy" is the word to describe the opening of this game. Cheesy music with no special effects, but it's the game that counts....and this is the game of DOOM.

.... Doom, the 3D shoot em' up virtual game of blood and gore. Called by some the most insanely popular game of all time (and I'd have to agree) has finally made it's way to the Jag. I had only played Doom on Shareware PC a few times before I borrowed this game, so I didn't really know what to expect, and what to compare it to, but from what I've seen on the Jag version, "Jagu-Doom" is incredibly cool.

The story has some fancy "intra-parallax/space dimension" words that make you think there is a point to the game, but the main goal in simply to blast and dash. You go around (literally) blowing the brains out of baddies, then jammin' to exit. You've got 7 baddies and 8 weapons to take em' out with (eat your heart out AvP). The thing that separates Doom from most games is the fact that it takes place in a first person perspective. You see through the hero's eyes...your weapon is in front of you, and you watch baddies approach you and fall.

I have to say, Doom is FAST! So fast, I could hardly keep up with it on my first tries. Though, after a while you discover how brilliantly well composed the buttons are set-up. Doom takes full advantage of the Jags 17 buttons, and never becomes confusing. In the PC version, I never used strafe and/or run, but now I find myself backpedaling and side-stepping all over the place. Switching weapons is much faster than AvP, and baddies are just as smooth as you are.

Though, a HUGE disappointing aspect (to me) is the fact that the game drops in frame-rate quite a number of times. When you're traveling down a crowded hallway the game is faster than ever, but if you get out into the open spaces with no baddies, then the game slloooowwssss ddooowwwnnn. Although it's the only main flaw with the graphics, it takes away from the intensity and gameplay. Too bad.

The graphics are eye pleasing, and has some of the coolest effects ever. I've heard the resolution was dropped big time, but I didn't notice it at all. If I had never heard about the drop in res, than I wouldn't have noticed...though, I also hear there was a tremendous boost in color, and I didn't notice that either....

There are a ton of satanic objects in the later levels. Bloody corpses hanging from walls, dead bodies dripping from spikes, moving skulls on the walls.... just a ton of neato things to look at. These drastically add to the games flavor.

Sound FX are simply average. Monsters sound like monsters, fire balls sound like fire, explosions sound like explosions. Nothing extra ordinary, but nothing that sounds too bad. There is no music, and that *really* bites. I'd listen to the end of level track, and I would think of how great the game would have been enhanced if the music had been implemented. But is wasn't. And that really, really bites. Music would've been awesome.

Overall, Doom is total enjoyment. My friends love tearing through a room of Imps with the chainsaw. Great graphics, decent sound FX, and awesome playability make Jagu-Doom a stellar game and a wonderful showcase title. Ain't it cool?

Graphics- 9 1/2
Good graphics. Awesome color and texture with a lot of neato things to look at. Walls and baddies *do* get pixelized, but not too much. Everything look great.
Sound- 7
OK sound FX...and NO music. Man, music would've rocked, but it didn't happen. Oh well, I should stop whining, what we have here is pretty cool.
Control-9 1/2
At first there is a -small- learning curve, but it's quickly over come. Easy access to buttons, with an incredible control set-up. The pad won't let you down.
Power-9
Well, it usually works out fine, but there is a drastic drop in frame rate when your in a big, wide space. Though, when you're jammin' down an infested corridor and it really counts, the Jag ain't gonna let you down.
Fun Factor-9 1/2
The game is a total blast, and my friends all love it. I haven't tried net-working yet, but it sounds awesome.
Overall-90%
