Eat Dirt--Rally Style!

Type: 3/4 view driving/racing
Players: 1 to 8 alternating

Description:
Fueled by a nitro-burning 64-bit graphics engine, Power Drive Rally delivers the sights, sounds and the chaotic intensity of pure rally racing. You'll actually see the skid marks and the icicles fly as you tear across the Italian countryside. Hear the gears grind and your navigator sneer as you rip through the Arizona desert. Feel the heart palpitations and the adrenaline overload as you bury the needle along the dust-choked African plains.

It's dirty. It's ugly. It's uncomprimising Rally racing-----Jaguar style!

Overview:
Power Drive Rally by Rage Software is one of the few games Jaguar owners can boast as being an excellent racing game for their system. Overall, the game is put together extremely well. There are no rough edges or anything else that would make you think the game was hurried...Attention to detail was paid, and it shows...Everything is nicely smoothed out.

The variety in the tracks is very good. You'll race against the timer or an opponent. 3, 4, and 5 lap races in any of the many race types. One cool part about the game is the Skills Tests...Whenever you finish up one country, you'll be faced with the challenge of completing one of these before you can move on to the next country. These add a great variety to the game and allow you to do something besides the usual lap race.

There are a variety of power-ups scattered throughout the tracks. These will help ya get cash, stop the timer, or put some distance between yourself and that guy with the artificial intellegence chip in his head...

Graphically, the game is solid. Nothing to really make ya jump back, but the graphics do shine and the artwork is really well done. The scenery is nice and varied. You might even catch a dead antilope laying there with it's guts hangin' out....lotsa detail. The cars have a nice rendered look to them....as you turn the car looks to be light sourced. Nice foreground effects such as rain, snow, sand...etc. that include a few layers of parallax in 'em. Flip up dirt and watch the snow fly around as you powerslide through and icy corner. The graphics when you're not in the game are very nice and look to have time a great deal of time spent on 'em. The graphics are in there indeed.

Soundwise, it's above average. The engine sounds are a bit cheesy, but you won't mind. Your partner is constanltly shouting out directions....it doesn't bother ya 'cause his voice kinda hangs in the background....Although if ya wanna really hear him, you'll find yourself turning the music down a bit. Ahh yes, music...

The music is a toss-up. While some of the tracks are well done, there are others (arizona to name one) that'll make ya wanna turn the music off or down. Other tunes (such as Corsica) are very cool and give ya the racing feel.

The control is perfect! This game features some bad "A" control dynamics. The feeling ya get when racing is a very realistic one...As the scenery changes, and the conditions change, you'll get new control dynamics. In snow you'll slide around....In sand, you'll have a hard time to get going when off-road.....It is all very cool to have in the game.

This game was accepted pretty well among the gaming mags, and I see why.

'If I had to use one word to describe the game, it'd be "Solid".'
