I think this story would make even the most seasoned collector drool. :) Last night, after spending a while in IRC, talking to DrDemento, wagner, DavidT, and some other regulars in #classic, I decided that I would make today a day where I went looking for games. This was funny since we were all in there being kinda pessimistic about finding anything new so close after Christmas. Something told me I should go out anyway... My girlfriend and I were going to go see a movie, so I decided to stop at our local video game exchange place. They usually have a handful of atari carts, and they are always $1.00. I looked in the normal stack of them... asteroids, combats, pacmen, space invaders... phooey. I figured this might be a wasted trip, but for shits and grins I asked the guy behind the counter if he was "hiding all the good atari games" from me. Well, at this, he laughed and said that today was my lucky day... and boy was he not kidding. Some person had come in very recently with 4 big boxes full of Atari games that hadn't been set out yet. He said "You are the first person to even look at these carts..." Of course, I started drooling right away to see the stack of boxes, nearly as tall as me. Digging through the boxes, and trying not to burst out in loud cheers, here are the titles I pulled out... MAIN FINDS: ---------- Chase the Chuck Wagon - w/box/inst - looks like it has never been played and the box isn't even dented. Swordquest Waterworld - w/box/inst - the box is a bit torn, but the label on the game is near mint. Tooth Protectors ------ It is in the original styrophome case, and it also looks as if it hasn't been used. The label is beginning to become loose on the end though. OTHER FINDS: ----------- (all of these are with box and instructions) Crypts of Chaos Tron Deadly Discs Space Combat Mountain King Memory Match Circus Dodger Cars Brain Games 3-d TTT Slot Machine Journey Escape Spelling Star Trek SOS MASH Dig Dug DK Jr (7800) Stampede SQ: Earth/Fire worlds Video Chess Miniature Golf Summer/Winter Games Burgertime Kool-Aid Man Tutankham Food Fight (7800) and these loose ones: London Blitz Air Raiders (white label) Of course, the whole time I was sifting through the boxes, I was practically ready to pass out. I tried to keep my composure, as to not have the prices raised on me, the very obvious eager customer. I am still buzzed over all the great finds I made in one swoop, but sorta bummed because I doubt that I will ever have another time when I can find this much stuff... 3 URs in one day... sigh... :) Btw - just for a chuckle... they told me that they gave trade credit to the guy who brought the games in... 50 cents credit for each title.... hehehehehe -- _____________________________________________________________________ | | |_ | Robert J Batina | Also known as 'Roberto' around the net. | | |---------------------| Please take the time to check my web pages at | | | rbatina@infinet.com | http://www.infinet.com/~rbatina | | |_____________________|_______________________________________________| | |_____________________________________________________________________|
