Cybermorph

Atari ATD Now (pack-in)

Game Description

Cybermorph was the first game to arrive for the Jaguar, as it was released as a pack-in game. This game sort of opened up a bit of a new genre for the Jaguar, as these search and chase games became popular with many Jaguar owners (ex. Battlemorph, Cybermorph, Hover Strike, Hover Strike UL, I War, ect.). Your mission is to go over fifty planets and rescue all of the pods in each of the levels.

Graphics

The Polygon graphics are very smooth, as the ship is done very nicely as are most of your enemies. There is a very decent range of colors used, not a overwhelming amount, but still not bad. Really my only complaint is the lack of backround graphics for most of the game (other than mountains), it would have been nice to see a wider range of backround graphics.

Sound

The effects are very clean and crisp for the most part, with quality effects of approaching missles and enemy engines. There is not much in the way of music though. There is intro music, but no in-game music. That does not really take away from the game, but quality in-game music like its predecessor has, Battlemorph would have enhanced the game.

Gameplay

The gameplay is very smooth and responsive. The tough part though about reviewing this game, is with the fact being Battlemorph has been out which is a great sequel, and it improves upon everything. So this game has to take being compared to a newer original that is improved. So anyways, the gameplay is very good, and everything is very precise, though Battlemorph still managed to improve quite a bit upon this games play (which is why Battlemorph is one of my favorites.

Overall

Cybermorph was a outstanding first effort for the Jaguar. I played this game quite a bit and it took me a long time to complete. You will certainly get your money out of this one (if you like these type of games, like I do, and its a pack-in). There is not much flashy in the way of graphics and sounds, but still this game was quite a effort for a first effort.
