DKG/VD3D Chat Transcript

Those in attendance: DV3D, DarkKnightGames, c64, DV3D, Selina Kyle, Kevin, Guy S Bad Dash, Brett, JaGmAn

DarkKnightGames: Were here

Selina Kyle: It was mentioned on J I that this
new joystick wil not need jaglink to network

VD3D: Were are here

Selina Kyle: Was that just great googly moogly
about the jaglink joystick ?

Brett: Hello, who is here from DKG. Dave?

JaGmAn: whos there from DKG and VD3D

Brett: VD3D, have you decided which platform you
are going to go with for both games? And your working
with Barry on Automaniacs right?

DarkKnightGames: This is Dave, and Adam

Selina Kyle: What network games may be made
for the jaguar

Brett: CD or Cart?

VD3D: From VD3D we have Alan Burress and Chris McDonald

DarkKnightGames: This is Dave, and Adam

VD3D: Sorry about the colors

D3D: This is Alan Burress and Chris McDonald

Selina Kyle: What is this i read on J I about no
jaglink and the new joystick ?

JaGmAn: AHH now everybody is Blue

WesSaw: greetings ;)

DarkKnightGames: The Joystick model is the
GRAVIS BLACKHAWK contoured handle, with 4 buttons, ABCD....

DarkKnightGames: Gravis gave us permission to use their
joystick for this project

Selina Kyle: most gravis have adjustable tensions,
does this one ?

WesSaw: hmmm

JaGmAn: D??

DarkKnightGames: It has a hookup at the top so you can plug
a Jag controller into it, and play co-op on Jaguar games that
werent originally intended to be co-op

WesSaw: VD3D: Nice to see you got your own Web-Page up....

DarkKnightGames: For example, in Blue Lightning, one person
could fire while the other person controlled the plane

VD3D: No the joystick has a fixed tension.

JaGmAn: so theres no keypad?

JaGmAn: o cool

DarkKnightGames: It will have a trackball
assesory coming out soon, that you can just hook up to the
joystick and use....

WesSaw: sounds kinda cool...have you actully
tried that out yet, or is it just an idea...

Brett: VD3D, how far is Automaniacs into development?

DarkKnightGames: Pictures of the Joystick will
be up tomorrow

Selina Kyle: Trackball? rotary !

JaGmAn: do you know the price of the joystick yet??

DarkKnightGames: You connect a Jag controller to it and
use that keypad.... which also gives you an advantage of
being able to have two people play a one player game at once....
or a jaglink game

VD3D: Automaniacs has not begun development at this time.

JaGmAn: rotary would be nice!

DarkKnightGames: $60.00

Brett: Oh OK, your working with Barry right?

DarkKnightGames: Yes, We ARE working withthe folks at
VD3D on the joystick

JaGmAn: where is this going to be sold? direct from DKG
or what

Selina Kyle: WIll there still be two different
joysticks available ?

VD3D: As we speak we are finalizing settings on the
prototype joystick.

DarkKnightGames: Trackballs are better than a rotary in
my opinion.... for T2K the assesory will have three
buttons.... FIRE ZAP JUMP

DarkKnightGames: Right now, if you want to order send
mail with your request to ShelShock@juno.com

DarkKnightGames: There will only be one model.... but if
you need the extra buttons, as I said you can hook up a
controller to it for any other funtion

DarkKnightGames: We have sent mail to Dave at Bits o Fun
asking him if he would like to order some.... No response
yet.... we will be shipping to stores in Germany and UK

VD3D: The joysticks will only be marked with Logos of
VD3D and DKG.

JaGmAn: Does the jag do well there?

DarkKnightGames: They will not have ATARI or JAGUAR on
them, as they are trademarks of Atari, and we would get
sued if we used them....

Brett: What type of sales figure do you expect to get
with the sticks and games? Just curious, it is tough to get
sales figures out of Telegames?

DarkKnightGames: There is going to be a trackball assesory,
that connects to the joystick

Brett: Yeah, definately be careful of all the TM junk!

DarkKnightGames: There is going to be a trackball assesory,
that connects to the joystick

JaGmAn: will it work for any other games besides T2K?

DarkKnightGames: The price, and specs for the trackball
have not been set, we cannot provide you with further
information about the Trackball than we already have

VD3D: The joystick is designed to be used with
any game that can possibly use a joystick

DarkKnightGames: The trackball will work with
all games....

DarkKnightGames: Questions now.... one at a time....

Selina Kyle: What games will you be making for the jaguar64
that will network ?

DarkKnightGames: I have a crappy browser, so I have to click
say it everytime I need to see somthing.... thats why theres
the empty posts

WesSaw: Who does the coding at DKG?

DarkKnightGames: Probably 1

Selina Kyle: there is no plans for a network link game
for the jag ?

JaGmAn: there is no refresh button?

DarkKnightGames: Were interviewing coders now.... we will
probably hire two.... I know a little C++, and Adam does
too.... Were coding it with VD3D....

WesSaw: okay

DarkKnightGames: not yet.... but were working on licensing
Native

JaGmAn: any sports possibly??

Brett: Native looks very impressive, I hope it can be
brought to the market!

JaGmAn: Me too!

DarkKnightGames: Hey, Kev.... any q's we have to go soon

WesSaw: you'll need to know assemler language, right?

Kevin: Err...can't think of any off hand

Brett: What would Native be released via DKG or VD3D or in
a joint venture.

Brett: Native looks very impressive, I hope it can be
brought to the market!

DarkKnightGames: VIA Dark Knight Games

Kevin: So, has programming been started on any of the
proposed games (Defcon 1, Automaniacs)?

WesSaw: Clay said that Native was a 48 megabyte
cart...how could you afford to release a game that big?

DarkKnightGames: We have to go.... the information on the
Joysticks, and pics will be up tonight.... be back in
20.... hopefully

Brett: OK, then would you guys be involved in the direct
release or would you find someone else to actually produce
the carts/CD's with Native?

DarkKnightGames: Wes: JAG CD

WesSaw: uh huh cool ;)

Kevin: Wouldn't they have to specially program
the game for the JagCD?

Brett: OK guys, thanks for dropping bye, best of luck
on the projects! Talk to you later!

JaGmAn: is VD3D there?

VD3D: direct release, if they will work with DKG

WesSaw: I would think they'd have to re-do the code for
Jag CD

Brett: OK, sounds good, I hope it works out! They
sound like they want Native to hit the market.

Kevin: Wouldn't they have to specially program the game
for the JagCD?

WesSaw: does the Jaguar server work with Jag
CDs or just carts?

Kevin: Doesn't Mark Santora have a JagCD dev kit? Perhaps
he would sell it or something :-)

WesSaw: has any coding begun on any of your ideas as of yet?

Dash: Are you guys taking intrest in a baseball game
so many people have been asking

Kevin: When do you expect to start coding the PC version
of Defcon 1?

JaGmAn: or any sports for that matter?

WesSaw: well...gotta go eat....(E-mail me Kev)...Laterz!

VD3D: We have considered the possibility but have not come
to any conclusion as of yet

Kevin: I think it was Dark Knight Games that was asking for
the games ideas, not VD3D

Selina Kyle: How about a network link baseball ?

VD3D: We are waiting for DKG to send the storyboard and
level design for Defcon 1

Dash: Just wondering if they took interest in all the
people posts about a baseball game i wasnt making a
suggestion

Brett: I talked to someone that mentioned longterm the
possibility of picking up unfinished games, is there anything
to that that may be true or you could elaborate on?

VD3D: We have noticed the desire but are not able to commit
at this time

VD3D: We currently have no plans to pick up unfinished games
due to our own game development

Dash: what do you plan after the games are released

Kevin: Has anyone been taking a transcript of this Q&A?
I'd like to read what I missed :-).

JaGmAn: so all of your games will be totally original?

VD3D: We have taken on new perspectives of old
classics but can only tease at this time due to self interest

Kevin: I'd just like to say that Automaniacs sounds like a
fabulous idea, and I am happy that you chose to do a
Club Drive sequl.

Brett: Just started for what it is worth!

Kevin: Make that "sequel"

Dash: Did you guys ever thinking about working on the 2000
series ex T2K,B2K,G2K,D2K

VD3D: If there are no more questions we will be signing off

VD3D: Don't thank us for Automaniacs, thank Barry

Guy S Bad: Is that kev from jagfest ?

Dash: Why would guys make a sequal to a game that got bad
ratings from everyone hopefully you can make it better

Kevin: That's me, Guy.

VD3D: That's the whole idea of a sequel, right?

Brett: I am glad you guys got together on it. How long has
Barry been on the project (as his Club Drive page has
been up or a little bit)?

Kevin: Thank Barry for me, then. Club Drive is definitely a
great and unique game.

Guy S Bad: what ever ended up with the dragon posters ?

JaGmAn: it alrealy has a bad rep.

Kevin: Club Drive is way fun! A sequel with an improved 3D
engine will absolutely rock. And, Explore Mode sounds great!

Brett: I think the Club Drive concept was superb, and from
what it sounds like Barry is going to do what should have
been one with the first one. I still had fun with Club Drive!

Dash: What do you guys think of ICD 4play etc?

Kevin: We gave the Dragon posters away...I remember one went
to Kodogor, and can't remember what happened to the other one.

VD3D: We have been with Barry for a month on both the Jag
projects and the Lynx projects

Kevin: I just bought Club Drive again after trading it away
about a year ago...I missed it :-)

Kevin: Well, I gotta run...see you guys later. Thanks for
coming, VD3D.

Brett: What are you guys working on for the Lynx?

VD3D: Refer to JI for references to the Lynx games and
visit our web site. We have to go now, thanks

Guy S Bad: anyone seen a jaguar kiosk, display unit for sale?

JaGmAn: bye VD3D thanks for comin!

Brett: OK, thanks for stopping bye!

DarkKnightGames: Were BACK

Brett: I think I am going to leave the chat as it is now.
Putting a pic on one screen wasn't I choice, I just messed
with the code. I don't want to screw up the page.

DarkKnightGames: Whats going on.... any q's

JaGmAn: hi DKG theres only 2 of us left!

JaGmAn: umm how big approximately is the joystick?

Brett: VS3D left about 20 mins ago I think so things have
calmed down.

DarkKnightGames: So you guys know.... were probably only
going to make enough Joysticks for the people, and stores
who order.... there will only be one production run

Brett: Also, will any additional codeing be necessary for
Native to be on CD?

Brett: So, how are you doing with the Joysticks sales/prebooks
wise?

JaGmAn: thanks alot guys!!

Brett: OK, thanks, I look forward to getting it!

DarkKnightGames: Go ahead and put it up

Brett: OK, thanks. I back tracked and put together a
transcript (or much of it). I'll put it towards the beginning where
you talk about the Joystick I think.

DarkKnightGames: Well weve got about 80 preorders

Brett: I think I got most of it, it'll just be fun
organizing the transcript and getting rid of things I
copied twice!

DarkKnightGames: We should get more once the pics go up

Brett: Not bad! Whats your goal, 150?

DarkKnightGames: Brett.... send me a transcript

DarkKnightGames: 140

Brett: Yeah, I think alot of peole are waiting to see
it.

JaGmAn: how many will be made?

Brett: OK, will do. It may be a day or so. The way I got it
was Kevin gave me the idea late, so I hit the back button
about 30 times getting things so I may have double copied...

DarkKnightGames: As many orders as we get will be filled.

Brett: things and all. I'll work on it tonight. Thanks for
doing the chat, I think you turned alof of people on to the
joystick!

DarkKnightGames: Even with double copies.... send it to me....
I need to know what VD3D said

JaGmAn: so if someone dosent order one they cant get one?

Brett: I'll probably get rid of all the hello and
goodbye messages too. The part where you left is fairly in order,
so I could send that to you before the night is over.

Brett: So, have you done any work on Defcon1 yet or are you
getting the Joystick in order and waiting till you hire the
additional programmers?
c64: Hello

DarkKnightGames: Were waiting to hire more programmers.... but
VD3D has programmers already.

c64: I'm glad to be getting back into Jaguar stuff. It's been
a while. Many trips, little game playing.

c64: What's the aim of Defcon 1? Are the plans for it to have
any texture maps or not?

DarkKnightGames: Gourad shading is 22% faster

Brett: How many carts/CD's will you guys need to sell to be
successful? Similar to the Joystick or..?

JaGmAn: when will more info on Defcon1 be
relesed?

c64: Any problems with the name Defcon 1? Defcon 5 is a
PlayStation game.

DarkKnightGames: No problems

JaGmAn: ???

DarkKnightGames: Info will be released later

DarkKnightGames: What did VD3D say?

: have the joystick preorder numbers been satisfied ?

Brett: Hmmm, some Automaniacs talk, elabaroation on the Native
situation mostly.

c64: Are the joysticks hand-made or machine made? I built a
joystick myself, and it came out well.

Brett: People pushed a baseball game also while you were gone.

c64: I don't know about a baseball game. Personally, I wouldn't
be likely to enjoy it.

Selina Kyle: will there be a preorder on the game and discount
for joystick buyers ?

DarkKnightGames: What did they say about Native?

Selina Kyle: yes arent you working with them

Brett: It was asked about how Native would be released if you
licensed it and they said "direct release, if they will work
with DKG"

Selina Kyle: we need more games that use the jaglink or catbox

DarkKnightGames: We might be able to license it from them... they
say if we cant get them a Jag CD dev kit in 2 months they're
dropping Native

Selina Kyle: ohh

Brett: How would that be worked if it goes through, would
Duranik finish it and you publish it or....?

c64: Wouldn't a Jag CD dev kit be hard to find? There were only
a few, right?
Selina Kyle: No plans for a jaguar game that links
?
JaGmAn: do you think you can get one?

DarkKnightGames: We have two possibilities of
getting one

DarkKnightGames: Duranik codes we publish

My thoughts: First off I want to thanks both parties for taking the time to answer our questions. This chat started at 7:15 and did not actually end until 9:45 or so (as DKG returned). It sounds like the Joystick is very close and it sounds and looks quite impressive. It has a very professional look to it and I am sure the pictures will spur on the sales of that!

Obviously it will be a while with the games as both have barely been started, but it sounds like they are headed in the right direction and I certainly look forward to both. The Native situation is very interesting as basically the last stumbling block with that is getting a CD development kit. I hope DKG can find one and then hopefully Native will become reality!

Again, I thank them as I think that cleared up several questions and I wish them all the best of luck!
