Who we are ?
We (Stefan and Matthias) are two students of the University of Technologie Aachen. Our great hobbies are these fine old Atari 8 bit machines.
The msc harddisk-interface
Looking for a nice project to deal with, in summer of 1994 we started the development of an IDE-harddisk-interface for the XL-series.
It tooks nearly one year to have a fine hardware-solution working properly with different types of harddisks and computers.
Then it tooks one more year to get a usable and comfortable software for installation and setup. Here you can have a look at it (57 kB jpg).
The features of the interface
- real device for the parallel-port of the Atari XL-Series
- up to 240 partitions per harddisk supported
- emulates D1: until D9: of disk devices (access to 9 partitions at one time)
- full bootable from any partition (with standard XL-OS)
- write protectition capability
- supports master/slave configuration
- more than 30 KB/s file access with SPARTA-DOS 3.2 gx (reading)
- more than 10 KB/s file access with SPARTA-DOS 3.2 gx (writing)
- access of ATAPI-CDROM with additional software
- access of IDE-ZIP drives within driver version 1.17
