››Friend of the Frob!›› For those of you who remember the Frob for the Apple, and what it does with a certain item of Atari hardware, this is for you.›› Several years ago a company called VSS, Inc. developed a device for the Atari 8-bits that bridged the gap between the the Atari computers and the Atari 2600 game system. The READS 2600 enables an Atari 8-bit user to develop games for Ataris highly successful 2600 (aka VCS). The READS 2600 is a "Black Box" that connects to the Atari 800 through its four joystick ports. From the box runs a cable connects to a 2600 cartridge adapter plugged into the cartridge port of the 2600. The system allows the user to explore the 2600 and develop software, and lets you store your programs on an Atari disk drive. It not only allows the user to develop standard 4K games, but also the bank select 8K option as well. An optional EPROM programmer also lets you create prototype cartridges for the 2600.›› The complete package includes the 8K ROM emulator, Atari 800 connector cable, Atari 2600 cartridge adapter and the connecting cable for it, full documetation, and software programs for transferring your programs to the 2600.›› The cost of this package is $795.00, with accessories ranging in price from $5.50 to $295.00.››› Information from the "Eye On" department of "Videogaming Illustrated", page 76, November, 1983.›› File by Don Rogers, Feb. 13, 1988.››
