THE ICON SHOP. An outstanding Print Shop Graphic editor/creator with many advanced features5}. Refer to the accompanying instructions for details. (by Gregg Tavares, via the Genesee Atari Group in Flint, MI; G.A.G. Di5}sk #149)2. PACKTOOL.EXE. Compacts ("scrunches") or uncompacts ("unscrunches") Print Shop Graphics images (which are in DOS5} file format) for fast modem transfer or convenient "theme" storage. In ACTION. (by Dave Oblad, via G.A.G. Disk #97)3. PS5}PIC.EXE. Converts Print Shop Screen Magic Images (the full screen type, not the small Graphic images) to DOS disk format. A5}lso, PSPIC allows you to overlay this picture with mutiple Print Shop Graphics images. Read the following "DOC" file for det5}ails. (Ver 3.0 by M.G. Collins 10/85, via G.A.G. Disk #149)4. SHOPTOOL.EXE. Use to view or to convert Print Shop Graphic 5}images to DOS file format (or vice-versa). In ACTION. (by Dave Oblad, via CompuServe)5. DOCREADR.EXE. Displays or prints 5}out text documentation files. You're using it now! (by Jim Thompson via ANTIC PD)6. DOS.SYS/DUP.SYS. Atari DOS 2.0 with 5}a modified DOS.SYS file to support the Icon Shop.CONTENTS (Back Side):1. ARTSHOP.BAS. Converts Micro-Painter pictures t5}o Print Shop Screen Magic images and vice-versa. Also formats disks (both types), renames, deletes, prints file listings of 5}images on Print Shop type data disks. (by Forrest A. Blood, JACS, from the JACG Library)2. BASICON.OBJ/BASICOFF.OBJ. Use 5}to enable/disable the BASIC Language on XL/XE computers. Binary Load (DOS Option L) from DOS.3. DOCUMENT.ATN. A BASIC pro5}gram which prints out "DOC" files in a similiar fashion (ie, to screen or printer) as the DOCREADR.EXE program above. Allows5} user selection of the file to be printed/viewed. (by Tom Pazel, JACG)4. FLIPPER2.OBJ. Use with DOS file formatted Print 5}Shop Graphics images to flip, inverse, overlay letters and make other modifications to the picture. Built-in documentation i5}nstructions. NOTE: The Graphics' filename must have a ".PSF" extender. Also, when prompted for a filename (during loads or s5}aves), be sure to type in the complete filespec, e.g., "D:MYPIC.PSF". In compiled BASIC. (by Jim Steele of G.A.G. via Disk 5}#116)5. PSFCONV.BAS. A BASIC program that will convert saved Print Shop Screens to DOS file format. (NOTE: Do not use with5} Print Shop Graphic images/pictures!) Created files are 63 sectors long. A preformatted DOS disk is required. (by Mike McC5}uen, from ANALOG #38, Jan 86, pg 95)6. PSFLOAD.BAS. A BASIC screen load subroutine for use with pictures created with PSFC5}ONV.BAS, above. (by Mike McCuen, from ANALOG #38, Jan 86, pg 95)7. PSPRINT.OBJ. Prints out to an Epson/Star (or compatibl5}e) printer a listing (the picture + name) of all Print Shop Graphic images contained on that disk. Up to 70 pictures are con5}viently printed on each page - each in the proper highth/width ratio! Thus, the contents of a "packed" disk will require onl5}y 2 pages. Compiled BASIC and VERY slow, but worth the wait! (by Rick Harroun, via G.A.G. Disk #124)8. PSUTIL.BAS. A BAS6}IC utility for Print Shop Graphic images on Print Shop data disks only. Use to view, rename, alphabetize (and make a 5 colum6}n filename print out), or just print out 20 graphic images per page using Epson, Gemini or Prowriter type printers. Refer to 6}the following DOCs for details. (by Tom Pazel, JACG; JC mods)9.PS2VIS.BAS. Converts a Print Shop Graphic image into "VISU6}ALIZER" format as a normal DOS type file. Use joystick to position the image anywhere on the 1760 byte VISUALIZER screen. (6}by Tom Pazel, JACG)10. SHOPRINT.OBJ. Use to print out listings of the contents of Print Shop Graphic disks using Epson/com6}patible printers. Similiar to PSPRINT.OBJ, above, except the printed pictures are larger sized and slightly elongated. Two 6}printout sizes available, however. (by unknown, via CompuServe)11. Atari DOS 2.5. The DUP.SYS and RAMDISK.COM files are a6}lso included.NOTES: 1. For best results, please "BOOT" the front side of this disk with BASIC disabled (e.g., turn on y6}our computer while pressing OPTION; 400/800 users remove cartridge). 2. If you have a printer, you are encouraged to make 6 }printed copies of all documentation files (this file is named DOC.000; the others are: DOC.001, DOC.002, etc.) for convenient6 } and immediate use as required. 3. Some of these documentation files were written by the S*P*A*C*E Librarian based upon li6 }mited use of the subject program. Therefore, certain program features may be omitted, incorrect or not fully explained. You6 }r corrections, additions or enhanced programs would be, as always, greatly appreciated! Thanks for supporting S*P*A*C*E!194{3 FREE SECTORS1L*;IL; q7L*;IL'; 9L*;L:Lf:``D:B JKIHiDiELV`L=$LTHE ICON SHOP by Gregg Tavares==============================(Doc fn: DOC.001, Feb 27,'87) THE ICON SHOP is a full f:}eatured utility which will allow you to easily create or edit Graphics images for use with The Print Shop and related program:}s. Its general operation will be relatively easy and straight-forward for most users. The following information should prov:}ide most of the essential details required to make effective use of THE ICON SHOP.DISPLAY. The screen is divided into fou:}r major sections: 1) Graphic area. The main portion of the screen. Print Shop Graphics images are loaded/created/edited:}/saved from or to this area. 2) Mode & Brush Command Icon area. This is what the PACKTOOL program does. It was written for Print Shop users who wanted to effic>4}iently transfer these small Print Shop Graphic files over modems. Because these files are short and usually grouped in large>5} quantities; it normally takes an inordinate amount of time to upload them. One of the advantages of PACKTOOL is that it all>6}ows you to store a large number of files on one disk in "packages" that can be grouped into categories like "cartoons" or "le>7}tterheads".CREATING A "PACKED" File.If you have no Print Shop Graphics that are already in DOS file format, then use the>8} SHOPTOOL program (fn: SHOPTOOL.EXE on this disk) to create your DOS file formatted Print Shop Graphics from the existing Pri>9}nt Shop data disk. This may take a while if you have a large number to convert - You may also have to place them on two disk>:}s.Go to DOS and Binary Load PACKTOOL.EXE. Then, simply follow the prompts to create the "packed" file."UN-PACKING" a "P>;}ACKED" file.Follow these instructions exactly!1. Because you can not have more than 64 files on one disk, you will proba><}bly need to store yoqr !Pded disk and use the second side for the Print Shop formated files.2. Copy the "PACK" files to one or more of the disks. >>}If you wish, you may also copy the SHOPTOOL and PACKTOOL programs to both disks.3. Now load PACKTOOL from DOS. You will n>?}ow see a title screen and be instructed to press START. Put one of your disks with the "PACK" files in the drive. Follow th>@}e prompts to "unpack" your Print Shop files. The program will "unpack" the files into Atari format files. To be able to use>A} them with Print Shop you must first convert these files into Print Shop format.4. Get out your Print Shop program and boo>B}t it up. At the menu prompt go to the Graphics Editor section. Now, press "CNTR-S" (save file). You will be asked if you n>C}eed to make a Print Shop Formated disk. Take out your Print Shop disk and put in the disk you want to save your files to. (>D}I recommend the back side of the Atari disk. Now choose "yes" and press RETURN. You now have a Print Shop formated disk!5>E}. The next step is to re-boot the disk with SHOPTOOL on it and load it from DOS. At this time you can view the pictures on >F}the Atari formated disk using the "view picture fi$i@K@ RH ompts in SHOPTOOL. You will have to make a lot of disk swaps, but the end result is a disk full of great Print Shop files.>H}OOL.EXE by Dave Oblad, 1985================================(Doc fn: DOC.002, Jan 20, 1987)Because Atari disk forma<PSPIC by Mike Collins=====================(Doc fn: DOC.003, Jan 20, 1987)SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS: ATARI 400/800/XL/XE BJ} 48K Ram Disk Drive Print Shop, by BroderbundINTRODUCTION. PSPIC is a graphics utility written in ACTION!. ItsBK} purpose is to give you access to Print Shop's fancy hi-resolution text and graphics. PSPIC will load a Print Shop SCREEN MABL}GIC file into memory as a graphics mode 8 screen. It will then let you overlay Print Shop GRAPHIC files anywhere on that scrBM}een. The resulting screen can then be saved as a 62 sector picture file, which can be accessed by any standard graphics utilBN}ity such as Graphics Master, Koala Pad, MIcroPainter, etc..USING PSPIC. Files can be loaded from Print Shop Data disksBO} or from Print Shop GRAPHICS LIBRARY disks. Insert a disk which contains Print Shop files into drive 1 and press 'L'(load). BP} You will see the first filename in the directory. Use the space bar to step through the files. As the filenames are printeBQ}d on the screen, the file type (Screen Magic/Graphic) will be indicated. When you see the file you want, press .BR}LOADING SCREEN MAGIC FILES. When you load a Screen Magic file, the screen will be cleared and the picture will be loaded BS}into memory. Press any key to go back to the main menu.LOADING PRINT SHOP GRAPHIC FILES. When you load a Print Shop GBT}raphic file, the following things will happen. 1. You will be asked for the X and Y coordinates which will be used to placeBU} the graphic on the screen. Typing in response to either prompt will set that coordinate to zero. 2. If you havBV}e already loaded one or more files into memory, you will see the following prompt: "Clear or Existing screen?"TypinBW}g 'C' will erase the screen in memory while typing 'E' will not. 3. If you respond with 'E', you will see another prompt.BX} "Overlay(Y/N)?"Responding with 'N' will erase the area under the graphic when the graphic is loaded. Typing 'Y' wilBY}l not. 4. The graphic will be placed on the screen at the specified coordinates. Press any key to return to the main menu.BZ}SAVING FILES. To save a screen, type 'S' from the main menu. Make sure you have a disk that has been formatted with B[}Atari DOS in drive 1. The name of the last file you have loaded will be printed on the screen. You can enter a new filenameB\} or type to use the name of the last file loaded. CAUTION! Print Shop file names may contain characters which are B]}not allowed in Atari filenames. Make sure to delete any such characters. I hope you enjoy using this program. If you hB^}ave any questions or comments, please leave me a message on CompuServe. Mike, CompuServe ID # [74005,475]0/XL/XE @tlidation (into a single file) and greatly enhanced version of The PRINT SHOP Graphics Library Utilities program from the May F`}1986 JACG disk of the same name. The following instructions by Tom Pazel have been edited to reflect the program changes. AFa}ll modifications were by Jim Chapman of S*P*A*C*E, May '87.INTRODUCTION.--------$-/H(&0p3 "!C) I+3m functions not easily available with THE PRINT SHOP. These include: 1. Obtain a printed list of the names of the graphicFc}s on a PRINT SHOP disk. 2. Change the name of any Graphic. 3. Produce a print of each of the pictures on a PRINT SHOPFd} disk, 20 pictures to a page, with their names centered under each. 4. Single keypress viewing of any of the pictures on Fe}the disk.LOADING THE PROGRAM------- --- -------Boot the disk (back side) in drive 1 with BASIC installed (activated), aFf}s you would any other disk. From the MENU press the appropriate key to run PSUTIL.BAS.The initial screen (title screen) alFg}lows you to select your printer type, either Epson (or compatible), Gemini 10 (or 10X/SG10), or Prowriter (or compatible). UFh}se the SELECT key to choose the appropriate printer and then press START. The screen will blank, then the Main Menu will appFi}ear.MAIN MENU---- ----The Main Menu consists of selecting which of the 4 functions listed above you desire or allows exFj}iting to the disk MENU program. Press 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 as desired. Do not press RETURN. If 1-4 were pressed you will be askFk}ed to insert a PRINT SHOP Graphics Library disk into drive 1 and press RETURN when ready. At this point, the program scans tFl}he disk for all the names of the graphics and then sorts them into alphabetic order in memory.NOTES: 1. You may press EFm}SCape to exit from any option/operation selected. In most instances you will be returned back to the Main Menu. 2. You noFn}w have the option of not having to re-load & re-alphabetize the directory when any option is selected. This greatly speeds mFo}ulitple operations on the same Print Shop Graphics Library disk. Be warned, however, that no subsequent checks are made to iFp}nsure that the same disk remains in drive 1 - so please don't accidently change disks!Option 1 - Graphics List-------- Fq}-------------When you select option 1, the names of all the graphics stored on the disk are printed, in alphabetical order,Fr} to either the screen or to your printer. Printer output will be 5 names across the page. If your printer is not on/connectFs}ed, the program will wait until it is. When the list is done printing, you will be presented with the Main Menu.Option 2 Ft}- Graphic Rename-------- --------------Option 2 provides the ability to change the name of any of the graphics on the diFu}sk. You will be asked to enter the name of the graphic to rename (it's current name). If you are unsure of the exact spelliFv}ng of the name, you may press RETURN only and all names will be displayed to the screen, up to 20 at a time. Enter the name Fw}EXACTLY as it appears (from this list, Option 1, or on the PRINT SHOP display) and press RETURN. The name you enter will be Fx}"validated" to ensure that the graphic is on the disk.NOTE: Be sure that the graphics disk in drive 1 is NOT write protecteFy}d at this time. Renaming a graphic involves writing new information to the disk. You will then be prompted for the name youFz} want to give it (it's new name). Enter up to 16 alphabetic/numeric characters and press RETURN. In a few seconds, the renaF{}me will take place and you will be presented with the Main Menu.Option 3 - Graphics Print-------- --------------This F|}option provides the powerful capability of printing all of the graphics on the disk automatically, in alphabetical order. (AF}}s you might imagine, it is the most complicated logic in the program). The paper should be positioned near the top of form bF~}efore selecting this option, as there is no prompt to do this after it is selected. It is further suggested that you hardwarF}e coldstart (turn off, then on) your printer at this time. This should ensure proper results. The program will print the grF}aphics out 4 across and 5 down giving 20 graphics on a page. The names of the graphics currently being printed will be displF}ayed on the screen. The name of each graphic will also be printed (centered) underneath it. The time needed to complete thisF} task is about 20-30 seconds per graphic. With a disk of 100 pictures, therefore, figure about 35-50 minutes of printing depF}ending on the speed of your printer. This sounds like a long time, and it is, but you shouldn't have to do it but once or twF}ice on the same disk. When the printing is (finally) done, you will be presented with the Main Menu.Option 4 - Graphic DiF}splay-------- ---------------This is a real handy way to get a look at what those graphics look like without having to kF}now all their names. You will be shown a screen with a box in the middle, the name of the first graphic towards the bottom, F}and 3 prompts at the very bottom of the screen. The prompts tell you just about everything you need to know to continue. ThF}e OPTION key will return you to the Main Menu. The SELECT key will advance you to the next graphic on the disk. The START kF}ey will display the named graphic inside the box. Thus, by simply alternately pressing and releasing SELECT and START, you cF}an view every graphic on the disk. You can bypass any graphic(s) by using the SELECT key. You will notice that HOLDING THE F}occurs - ReBoot to fix. 2. The DOS.SYS file has been specially modified for this program. Therefore it must also be trans:}ferred to any new disk onto which the above Icon Shop files are to be placed. Accomplish this by renaming it to "DOS", move :}to new disk, rename back to "DOS.SYS").====================(Doc fn: DOC.001, Feb 27,'87) THE ICON SHOP is a full f8)ng S*P*A*C*E...K #63 PRINT SHOP UTILITIESWelcome to S*P*A*C*E DISK #63, PRINT SHOP UTILITIES, Created Februar4SELECT KEY DOWN DOES NOTHING. The key must be released to make it function. Since moving through the names in this manner iF}s (purposely) slow, you can move faster by holding down both SELECT and START. This will advance through the names much moreF} quickly.Final Notes----- -----This program is written in ATARI BASIC and machine language. The program code is not prF}otected in any way so that you can see how things work or make modifications if you wish. There are so many different printeF}rs on the market that it was impossible to support them all. Epson and Prowriter are the most common types and that is why IF} wrote for them.I hope you find the program useful for keeping track of all those graphics for one of the best programs writF}ten for the ATARI computer.==============================(Doc fn: DOC.004, May 1, 1987)CREDITS: PSUTIL.BAS is a consoDART SHOP by Forrest A.Blood IV - JACS=====================================(Doc fn: DOC.005, May 1, 1987)Art Shop, extendJ}s the usefulness of Print Shop by adding several features such as converting back and forth between Print Shop's SCREEN MAGICJ} files (which are stored with "Print Shop" DOS) and Datasoft's Micro-Painter [or compatible] files (which are stored with AtaJ}ri DOS 2.0S). Art Shop also provides you with a method of manipulating Print Shop data by deleting files, renaming files, lisJ}ting file names on a printer and formatting disks.By giving you the flexibility to convert pictures between Print Shop and J}Micro-Painter, the value of each program is considerably enhanced. Some new possibilities include: 1) Add colors anJ}d patterns to your Screen Magic files, by loading the converted picture into Micro Illustrator. 2) Superimpose captionsJ} onto pictures you've already created with Micro-Painter, by loading the converted picture into Print Shop. 3) Add captJ}ions to digitized pictures you've stored with Computer Eyes video acquisition system, by loading them into Print Shop. The fiJ}nal image could then printed on transfer paper and ironed onto a T-shirt! 4) Create colorful title screen sequences forJ} movies you record with your VCR, by turning Print Shop files into Micro-Painter files. These screens could then be displayedJ} or further manipulated by another graphics program. How to Use Art Shop-------------------Art Shop was designed to be vJ}ery user-friendly. Menu's are used extensively in this program. The program automatically checks for the correct type of diskJ} (Print Shop or DOS format) before reading from or writing to the disk. Any errors will be displayed briefly, and the programJ} will restart itself. Most of the prompts can be entered with a single key press - the (RETURN) key is not needed except whenJ} answering Yes/No questions. After RUNning the program, you should be staring at the main menu with eight choices. Enter a nJ}umber between 1 and 8. If 8 is entered, the program ends and returns you back to BASIC's READY prompt.1) DELETE PRINT SHOPJ} FILE-------------------------After this selection is made, you are prompted to enter the type of Print Shop file to deleteJ}. Screen Magic files consist of an entire Graphics 8 screen and require 61 sectors on the disk. Graphic's are the images usedJ} on cards, banners and signs - they require only 5 disk sectors. After you have entered 1 or 2, you are asked to enter the dJ}rive which contains the Print Shop data disk. The disk is immediately checked to verify it is a Print Shop disk. If the driveJ} was not available, or if (RETURN) was hit instead of a drive number, the program simply reRUNs itself. If the disk drive didJ} not contain a Print Shop disk, you are again asked for the source drive number.A directory of all the Print Shop files (ofJ} the type you previously selected) is now displayed. Select the file you want to delete by pressing the corresponding letter J}[Uppercase, non-inverse letters only]. If more than 18 files exist on the disk, then you may press (RETURN) to view the remaiJ}ning names. Your selection is displayed and you are asked to confirm your choice. If you want to delete the file, hit 'Y' folJ}lowed by the (RETURN) key. The file is read and the directory information is erased. Once 'OPERATION COMPLETED' is displayed,J} you are free to swap disks. The program will automatically reRUN itself after it has completed this function, or after you rJ}esponded with 'N'.Since the program is basically self-documenting, I will just briefly explain the remaining six options. PJ}lease remember to not remove the disk from the drive until 'OPERATION COMPLETE' or an error message is displayed.2) PRINT J}SHOP ==> MICRO-PAINTER-------------------------------Converts Print Shop Screen Magic files to Micro-Painter. After answeriJ}ng several questions, you will be prompted for a destination file name. You must use file names which are legal under Atari DJ}OS 2.0S. If no file name is entered - only (RETURN) is pressed, then the source file name is also used for the destination fiJ}le name.Disk swapping instructions will be displayed, and the picture is loaded directly into screen memory. After the toneJ} has sounded, you may insert your DOS formatted disk and hit (RETURN). The picture is saved and you are returned to the main J}menu.3) MICRO-PAINTER ==> PRINT SHOP-------------------------------Converts Micro-Painter pictures to Print Shop Screen J}Magic files. The procedure is similar to the above operation. You are allowed to use the same file name for a Screen Magic fiJ}le and a Graphic file - they are identified seperately on the disk. If you entered the same file name as one already existingJ} on the destination disk, then the old file is automatically replaced with the new one.4) FORMAT MICRO-PAINTER DISK------J}----------------------This option simply formats a standard DOS disk in drive 1.5) FORMAT PRINT SHOP DISK---------------J}----------This is a quick way of formatting a Print Shop data disk without powering down and booting up Print Shop.6) LISJ}T PRINT SHOP DIRECTORY----------------------------This function lists all the Screen Magic or Graphic file names to the priJ}nter. If you want to simply view the directory, then select option 7. When you are prompted for a new file name, then just hiJ}t (RETURN).7) RENAME PRINT SHOP FILE-------------------------This selection will allow you to rename any Print Shop fileJ}.SIDENOTES---------Art Shop is very well protected against user errors, although the (BREAK) key will still interrupt tJ}he program. I didn't trap out this key in case some of you wanted to step through or modify this program. If you want to expeJ}riment with this program, I suggest preparing a test disk to work with. This program directly reads from and writes to the diJ}sk without the aid of DOS. One error in this program will almost guarantee a scrambled disk. When using selection 2 [Print SJ}hop to Micro-Painter], if you don't enter a DESTINATION file name, the source file name is used WITHOUT the '.MIC' extension.J} Under selection 3 [Micro-Painter to Print Shop], only the Micro-Painter files with the '.MIC' extension are displayed. This J}means if you convert a Print Shop file into a Micro-Painter file and don't enter a destination filename, then you can't conveJ}rt it back without first adding '.MIC'.Since the Print Shop's Screen Magic files are all displayed in full-screen Graphics J}8, no color information is needed [or saved] with the picture. When you convert this picture into Micro-Painter format (4 colJ}or) then color information is useful. Since a few graphics programs need this color information, I simply added your Atari's J}default colors onto the picture. You may want to substitute your own colors into lines 500 and 510 (PEEK 708,709,710 and 712)J}.Good luck and enjoy.HSEATTLE-PUGET SOUND ATARI COMPUTERENTHUS- IASTS Disk #63PR.SHOP UtilitysUpdated:May01,87Librarian - Jim Chapman
