CHOOSING THE PROPER SKILL LEVEL _______________________________ "Surf's Up!"} has three different skill levels. To choose skill levels use either option key or press the joystick up when DEMO is} running: SURFER: The beginner level. BEACH BUM:The intermediate level. HOT DOG:The expert level. When the game i}s over,or the DEMO is running, use either the start button or the fire button to start play. SCOREBOARD} __________ The scoreboard is very easy to understand. SCORE: the current score of the game you} are playing. you receive an additional life (board)for ever 20,000 points, five lives being } the maximun. BOARDS: The number of additional lives SPEED CLOCK: The speed clock is only us}ed on the tilted view (top view),and indicates the speed that you } have gained. BONUS: This shows how many prizes you have picked up. 1. CATCHING A WAVE ____}___________ To catch a knarley wave you must paddle over the waves before they crest and ride down the back side suc}essfully.Sounds easy, but you also have must avoid the octopus which is trying to knock you off the board PRIZES _}_____ The prizes bob up and down in the water, and to pick them up,just run over them. Each prize is worth 100 points}. For every seven prizes picked up,you receive an extra life and 1000 points. STICK MOVEMENT ______________ It i}s important to learn and practice the joystick movements: RIGHT: This will speed up the surfer. LEFT: This w}ill stop the surfer from paddling. UP: This movement has no use. DOWN: This will make the surfer go dee}per in the water on the back side of the wave. 2. RIDING THE WAVE _______________ To ride th}e wave back to shore, you must gain speed by getting your hair in the white of the wave. Be sure not to stay in too l}ong, or the wave will suck you in. You must also avoid perilous rocks, hungry sharks, angry turtles, and whirlpools. To} pick up the prizes you must gain enough speed on the wave to move out to them. STICK MOVEMENT ______________ } RIGHT: If enough speed is gained then you will move faster than the wave towards the shore. LE}FT: This will make you go at double speed backwards into the waves. UP: This will allow you to go up } the wave diagonally. DOWN: This will cause you to go down the wave diagonally. Warning: ONCE YOU ARE OUT OF }SPEED, THE WAVE WILL PULL YOU BACK! SPEED CLOCK ___________ Use the speed clock to see how long you have been in} the white of the wave. These colors correspond to a forward speed if the stick is in the left position. GREEN: Yo}u will move slowly forward. ORANGE:you will move faster forward YELLOW: You move 'still faster' } forward. RED: You will move quickly forward. THE FARTHER YOU GO OUT, THE FASTER THE CLOCK COUNTS TO ZERO.} 3. KNARLEY WAVE ____________ To ride the knarley wave to shore, you must avoid the lighting} bolts and land on the beach of your choice. To scroll the beaches, move the surfer right and left. When the wave cre}sts, you must be far down on the wave. If you hit a tree when you land on the beach, you will loose a life and no bonus} will be given. STICK MOVEMENT ______________ RIGHT: This will move the surfer right on the wave. LEFT}: This will move the surfer left on the wave. UP: This has no use. DOWN: This will move the surfer lowe}r on the wave.
