The remainderof the files a}re for your use withthe LETTERHEAD DESIGNER and serveas demos for the program. One thing your dot-matrix printercan do  }is to draw custom designedlogos or personalised monograms. This type of printing is called dotgraphics, and usually requir }es thelogo to be first drawn on graphpaper. The graph paper is dividedinto rows of eight vertical squaresfollowed by a l }ot of calculationsto convert each eight-square columninto a decimal value. Between oneand two thousand calculations arec }ommon for this type of programming. This program allows you to drawthe logo shape on the screen, andthen your Atari does  }all the hardwork for you! A range of drawingtools are provided to assist ingetting lines straight and circlesround, and }the completed logo canhave text added to make aletterhead. You can print thecomplete letterhead or just thelogo. The }logo graphic can be saved todisk for later retrieval forediting, or making the letterhead,and the letterhead can be stored}also, but cannot be edited once ithas been processed. The program is written in TURBOBASIC because of the speedadvant}age.INSTRUCTIONS============ Run the program and a choice ofprinter types will be given. Ihave kept to standard pr}intercommands and expect compatibilitywith all printers. If your printeris not listed, choose 4 -compatibles. (My Super }5 P1090seems to be the only one that doesnot have true Epson compatibility).Enter your choice. THE MAIN MENU ------}------- After choosing the printer, amenu of six choices is displayed.1. Print Letterhead Choose this to print y}our letterhead. A prompt to check the printer is given followed by printing. Program returns to the men}u. Will not operate if no data is available to print.2. Save Letterhead to Disk Choose this to save your } processed letterhead. Will not operate if no processed data is available. Use standard filename rules to} save data, but DO NOT add an extender - this will be done by the program.3. Save Graphic to Disk Choo}se this to save your logo graphic, even if it is incomplete. It is not necessary to have processed lette}rhead data to save a graphic. As above, use standard filename rules and omit the extender.4. Edit graphic} Choose this after loading a graphic, in order to add to it, change it or process it into a letterhead. W}ill not operate after loading a letterhead - letterheads cannot be edited!5. Load Data Choose this to} recover files from disk. You will be asked for a search for graphic or letterhead files. If no files a}re present on the disk, a bell sounds with a message and the program returns to the menu. If files are presen}t a list of them is displayed, and a choice of file number is made. If a graphic is loaded, the program  }proceeds to the drawing screen. If a letterhead is loaded, the program returns to the menu.6. Create Graphi!}c Choose this to begin a new graphic (and hence, letterhead). The drawing screen (in Graphics 6) "}displays a box with a scale down the left vertical axis. All drawing is done within this box, and a little #} flashing cursor is seen in its upper left corner. A set of drawing options is displayed in two rows below $}the box. Drawing options explained: --------------------------St-Move.. Use the joystick to movethe flashing curso%}r. Use the arrowkeys for fine control.Bt-Draw.. Press the fire button todraw lines. (Note: I haven't usedPM graphics &}for the cursor, so youhave to be careful not to eraselines when passing over them!)C-Circles.. Press C to drawcircles. '} Follow instructions whichappear on the bottom text row. Move horizontally from the centrewhen setting the size of thecir(}cle. Choose from circles andellipses, filled or outlines,vertical or horizontal ellipses. Position circles anywhere, they)}will not extend out of the box.D-Copy.. Duplicate areas of thedrawing by pressing D. Followinstructions displayed on th*}e textline.F-Fill.. Press F to fill an areawith colour. Follow instructions. As there is no UNDO command, makesure the+} area is fully enclosed, toprevent colour leaking out andspoiling your work!W-Text.. Write anywhere in the boxby pressin,}g W and following theinstructions which appear in thetext line. Use upper and lowercase, normal or inverse andgraphics (-}control) characters. Press RETURN when typing isfinished.M-Mirror.. Same as D, but reversesthe image laterally. Press M.} andfollow instructions.B-Box.. Press B to draw a box. Thebox can be filled or outline only. Instructions are displayed/} in thetext line.T-Triangle.. Press T for triangles,which can be filled or outline,upright or inverted. Instructionsar0}e displayed in the text line.L-Line.. Pressing L allowscontinuous drawing of lines. Position the cursor at thebeginning 1}of the first line andpress L. Then move to the end ofthe line and press L again. Voila -a line. Now move to the position2}you want the line to extend to andpress L. Continue till the linedrawing is completed and pressRETURN to exit line mode.3} Asalways, instructions are displayed.E-Rub.. To erase sections of yourwork, press E and follow theinstructions. This 4}commandbasically causes a rectangular areato be filled with backgroundcolour, erasing whatever was there.Two other comma5}nds are available,both function keys: OPTION.. Pressing OPTION exits thedrawing screen, saves the drawingin memory, and 6}displays the mainmenu. From here the graphic can besaved to disk, for later editing,completing or processing. START.. P7}ressing the START keyinitiates letterhead processing. All decimal data for the graphic iscalculated, and the data placed i8}nstrings for printing. (This iswhere the computer uses theinformation you entered at thebeginning about your printer.) O9}npressing START, you will be askedto position the cursor at the RIGHTTOP EDGE of the graphic. Theresulting logo will con:}sist ofall data to the left of the cursor.This edge position does not have tobe the RIGHT TOP EDGE of thedrawing box. T;}he graphic is divided verticallyinto ten lines - (printing willtake ten passes of the print-head),and the line number whic<}h has beenprocessed is displayed in the textline so that you can see how thingsare going. After processing theten lines,=} you are able to instructthe computer how to finish theletterhead - align the logo centreor left, add text or not, and add>} aline separating the letterhead fromthe body of the letter. All this last part (text inputetc.) is prompt driven, andh?}opefully is self-explanatory. Onething to watch, though, is whentyping the text, don't exceed theallowable line length (t@}hat longline you type on) or you will losesome typed data, and perhaps causeother problems. All the text isprinted in ElA}ite mode (96characters per line), and can besingle or double width. After text input, the programreturns to the main menB}u. You cannow print and/or save yourcompleted letterhead. Hot Tip!! When the graphic isfinished, prior to processing tC}heletterhead, press OPTION (menu),save the graphic, press 4 (edit)then START to process. That way,if you are not happy wD}ith theoutcome, it is simple to re-loadthe graphic, edit it and repeat theprocessing step. Actually, afterpressing OPTIOE}N from the drawingscreen, the graphic is always inmemory, and can be edited byselecting 4 from the menu withoutre-loadingF}. Well, that's it! If you have evercomposed a logo on graph paper andthen converted all that binary todecimal, (I once dG}id one on a24-pin printer requiring over 3500data points) you should appreciatethe time saving of this program.
