We are the only Australian Company sti }ll supporting the Atari 8-Bit Computers, and will continue to support the Atari range of Computers if you support us. Small } Companies such as Sunsoft Systems cannot afford to spend large sums of money on Advertisements especially when sales are li }mited due to piracy. (We placed a full page Advertisement in a U.K. Magazine a couple of Years ago which resulted in One Sa }le!!). We decided recently rather than Fold Up Sunsoft Systems which has been running at a loss for some time, to try One la }st time before giving up. As a last resort we have released Megaterm for distribution under a Shareware Type System. Megate }rm is NOT FREE or PUBLIC DOMAIN SOFTWARE but a COPYRIGHT PROGRAM and as such is protected by International Copyright Laws. }Non-Registered users of Megaterm are granted a limited licence to use Megaterm for a period of Thirty Days after which time }they must either send the Registration Fee of $20 to Sunsoft Systems or erase their copy of Megaterm. You may give }a copy of Megaterm to your friends for trial use or place Megaterm on bulletin Boards which do not charge for Downloading fi }les. Megaterm may only be distributed unmodified and the full documentation must be included with the copy. No fee, charge }or other compensation may be accepted or requested by anyone who distibutes Megaterm. Distributors of public domain or user } supported software are NOT PERMITTED to distribute Megaterm. Under no circumstances may Megaterm be distributed with any ot }her Product The easiest way to pay your Registration Fee is by Mastercard or Visa. Simply fill out the Registration }Form and post to Sunsoft Systems. (airmail please) Please Don't rely on other users to send their Registration forms. This }method of distribution allows quality software to continue to be available for the Atari 8-Bit Computers but will only work }if you give your support! On receiving your payment Sunsoft Systems will post by Airmail (delivery approx 10 days Australia } to U.S.A.) the Latest Version of Megaterm and Documentation on Disk, plus a Personal letter of thanks from the Authors of }Megaterm. A Printed Manual will be sent to all registered users, regardless of the date of registration, when available (sub }ject to a favourable response). The current version of Megaterm supports the 850 Interface, P:R:Connection and R-Verter typ }e Interfaces. I beleive the SX-212 Modem contains an R-Verter type Interface for Direct Connection to the 8-Bit Computers. }Megaterm should work with this Modem. (if not please advise us, and we will ensure it does). An "T" Handler version of Megat }erm suitable for the XM-301 and similar Modems will be produced if the response is satisfactory. 23r }d October 1988 Ver (2.0) Please send to: Mr John Nicholls Sunsoft Systems 13 Tulip Lane, } Buderim 4556 Queensland Australia Or to: Mr Warren Hami }lton Sunsoft Systems 150 Bonney Ave Clayfield 4011 Brisba }ne Queensland Australia Please Send: ____ Megaterm Disk @ $20.00 ea $______ } Payment by: ( ) Mastercard ( ) Visa ( ) other Card #: _______________________________ Exp. It will also distinguish between an 85 '}0 type device and an R-Verter type device by making a status call. The Sunsoft Systems interface is an R-Verter type device (}. The programme will initially display the type of interface present. (Note - If an 850 type device is not detected Megaterm )} assumes an R-Verter type device is present and displays the message R-Verter) If you have an 850 type device and the messa *}ge R-Verter appears it will be necessary to ensure that the 850 interface is turned on (or in the case of an P:R:Connection +} plugged in) then reboot the system. To reboot the system ensure that the Megaterm disk is inserted in the Disk drive then tu ,}rn the Computer off for a few seconds then back on. This programme will work with an intelligent modem or dumb modem -} with the decision being made by the connect time in the status window. If the connect time is zero, the programme assumes .}a dumb modem. If that value is non zero an intelligent modem is presumed to be connected. Both the 850 and P:R: conn /}ector are able to toggle the DTR (Data Terminal Ready) line of the RS232 plug and affect the dialling or hanging up ability 0}of an intelligent modem. This is not true of a R-Verter type interface (including the Sunsoft Systems interface) and the DT 1}R line must always be set high on an intelligent modem when using this type of interface. This objective may be achieved by 2} setting a DIP switch on the modem or by going to terminal mode with the programme and sending the modem a command to set th 3}e DTR line high. It depends upon the type of modem which you have. All the modern modems use the latter procedure and once 4}set the non volatile memory of the modem remembers the setting. You won't have to do it again unless you have a battery fai 5}lure on the modem. Because the DTR line cannot be toggled with an R-Verter device, the command Hang Up Phone will no 6}t work when you are on line to a bulletin board. You must log off by usually typing BYE causing the modem to detect loss of 7} carrier and revert to command mode and hang up the phone itself. A quick and dirty solution to this problem (if it is one) 8}is to switch the modem power off and then turn it back on. This has the effect of loss of carrier and the modem will revert 9} to command mode and hang up the phone. Please read your intelligent modem manual carefully. Now to the programme. T :}he programme has broadly two screens, the menu and the terminal screen. The menu page has a unique windowing environment con ;}sisting of five separate windows STATUS, XFER, PHONE, BUFFER and DOS. You may move from window to window by pressing the or or by use of a joystick plugged into port 1. The windows wrap left to right and vice versa. Ea =}ch window upon opening contains a command bar which is your means of selection of an option. The bars can be moved by use o >}f or or by use of a joystick. Each command bar toggles a value or initiates an action and produ ?}ction of these effects is enacted by either pressing the key or pressing the trigger button of the joystick. @} In the menu page there are some keystrokes available which do not influence the options displayed upon this scr A}een. They are as follows: (1) Ram - Displays freeram (2) Online Cost or Time Displayed (3) decrea B}se the screen colour and intensity. (4) increase the screen colour and intensity. (5) decrease the C} text intensity. (6) increase the text intensity. (7)

increase the window colour and intensity. D} (8) decrease the window colour and intensity. (9) <1> to <8> or Shift <1> to <8> provide a disk directory of t E}he drive numbered. Megaterm allows the use of Disk Directory Masks. If you wish to view all the files on a Disk just press F}Return at the Prompt MSK D1:, to view all the Files with the Extender .OBJ type D1:*.OBJ. If you are using Spartados pressi G}ng <1> to <8> gives the long listing and Shift <1> to <8> gives the short Dos 2 type listing. In the disk directory page, yo H}u may obtain another directory for any drive by hitting the appropriately numbered key <1> to <8>. If you press you w I}ill exit to the menu. (10) Force terminal mode and put a Hayes compatible modem into command mode. This command pla J}ces the DTR line high which may be necessary with some types of Hayes compatible modems. (11) Goto terminal mode. Thi K}s command does not change the state of the DTR line. TERMINAL DISCUSSION The ter L}minal screen has a single line at the top which provides information and messages to the user. The usual configuration start M}ing from the left is FREERAM, CAPTURE or LENGTH which gives the number of bytes left in the buffer or the length of the fil N}e currently in memory and the condition of the capture buffer (on or off). The next information is the elapsed time or the O}cost of connection in dollars and cents. The last panel of this line contains the Translation mode and baud rate also whethe P}r you are in full or half duplex (F or H). This panel may also contain messages of importance to the user.
