Issue 153 sees the final Atari cross-platform
column in Computer Shopper (UK edition).
The November issue of Computer Shopper (UK),
issue 153, features the final Atari cross-platform column.
Maurice Collins (the columnist) opens with the statement...
"The Atari market is dead in
the water, with just the faintest hint of a wake begin
it."
Not particularly cheerful I must say
but he has a point!? I cannot personally remember how
long the Atari column has featured in Computer Shopper,
but I wouldn't be surprised if it was from issue #1.
If anyone happens to know, then please do get in touch!
Maurice explains that over the past
few months he has found it "almost impossible"
to find software to write about, a huge comparison to
ten years ago when the three ST newsstand magazines
(ST Format, ST Review and ST User) were selling over
100,000 copies a month! To but it bluntly, those were
the days...
He goes on to talk about his journey
from owning his first ST and jokes about what if Atari
had... no I won't spoil it for you. Maurice acknowledges
(and I agree) that many users are now in fact
Atari emulation users running their Atari software using
Gemulator or WinSTon and makes a few informative points
on emulation. The column is wrapped by Maurice listing
a few useful contacts (which I have duplicated below).
Suffice to say, the article is certainly
worth a read and adding to your collection. Maurice
is long standing Atari enthusiast and writer with many
years experience (he used to also write for ST Review
and Atari World ya'know). I'm sure his column will be
greatly missed, I know I will. On behalf of Atari users
past and present, Maurice Collins - thank you!

your thanks to Maurice Collins, he can be contacted

Since this article was published, MyAtari
has been e-mailed by AndyD informing us that first issue
of Computer Shopper did indeed feature a ST column.
