Highlights from the good old days
Germany became Atari's flagship in
the European, and arguably world computer market, exemplified
by long term strategy in the form of high-value application-oriented
retail packages like the 1040STE music system (complete
with SM124 monitor, Kawai MS710 MIDI keyboard and Steinberg
"Happy Musik" software), to the 20 million
DM investment into a swish new local headquarters building.
The prolific Atari R&D department
was way ahead of its time. If only the average consumer
had a use for a Boeing passenger aircraft parts inventory,
or one of two other discs made for the CDAR504 optical
storage unit!
Well done readers who spotted the
thumbnail of the Atari ABC last month didn't match the
full-size picture. They were the ABC 386/40 (SX) and
40MHz ABC 386 DX II respectively.
