President's Corner
by Michael Current
December, 1998

I was driving to the November SPACE meeting planning on volunteering for the Secretary position, but you elected me President! It was a real surprise to me, but I'll try do to my best.

The results of the November Annual Meeting elections were as follows:

Elected Officers-
President: Michael Current
Vice-President: Greg Leitner
Treasurer: Greg Leitner

Volunteer Positions-
Secretary: Mike Weist
Disk Librarian: Glen Kirschenmann
Membership Chairman: Glen Kirschenmann
Newsletter Editor: Michael Schmidt

Thanks to everyone taking leadership roles in SPACE, with this much continued interest we'll be around for a long time to come.

Since the last meeting I've put our Club Bylaws up onto our web site at http://www.library.carleton.edu/space/. The version we found in November was dated 2/12/93. One goal I'd like to accomplish over the next year will be to bring the Bylaws up to date to reflect our current practice. I learned a lot of interesting things reading the Bylaws!

I have in mind several "show-and-tell" items to bring along at the December meeting, including: the World of Atari 1998 video (maybe someone wants to borrow it?), the first PoolDisk CD-ROM (contains only PD/shareware/freeware, maybe Glen want to borrow it?), the Autumn 98 issue of Page 6 Publishing's New Atari User magazine, and a special issue of the ABBUC Magazine from Germany--brush up on your German skills!

I'll be returning from Seattle on Friday December I 1th, so if all goes well I'll be in on time and I'll see you at the SPACE Christmas Party at 7:30!

Greg
Treasurer's Report
by Greg Leitner
December, 1998

We had a good turnout for the November meeting. I don't know if it was because of the elections or the auction that made this month a well-attended meeting.

I was a little, no very much disappointed in the bidding for our auction items. It seems that because a couple of members bid all the time the other members just give up or don't bid at all. I think some of us feet like it's useless to try and compete in the bidding when the same people always end up with the winning bid.

I would like to try something different next month. I will set up a table after the December- meeting and Christmas dinner with a few items that I would normally hold for the next auction. I will have these items marked at a very reasonable price and you won't have to bid against anyone to buy the them. By having this table set up after the dinner I would be sure that every member present will have a fair shot at these items. As far as what these items will be, here is a little hint. Some of the items at the last auction will be represented as well as more 8-bit items this time.

I think part of the problem with the last auction was that there was too much ST stuff and we don't have enough current members interested in the ST. Another problem I think we have is that all of us have saturated ourselves with enough Atari hardware and software to last us the rest of our lives as well as our offspring's.

The November auction only brought in $117.00 on over 50 items auctioned. The good news was that it was all profit at this time. One condition I made to the family that donated these items was that if we made at least $200.00 we would split it and give them half. Because they wanted this all done before they close the Estate we won't make the $200.00 amount unless I sell a lot at the December meeting. If we don't make the limit then I was told not to worry about. the money and just consider it a donation from Ray Melzer's Estate. I would still feel bad about this because they gave us a lot of good stuff.

Along with the auction sales we also had four membership renewals and DOM sales of $28.00. The total revenue for the month was $225.00 and our only expense was two months BBS bill of $20.00. We gained $205.00 in our 'treasury and it has now grown to $1031.03 which is the highest total since I joined the Club over ten years ago. With the items I still possess for future auctions we have a pretty secure financial position going into 1999.

Congratulations to Mike Current, our new President. I think Mike, is the best thing that has happened to the Club in many years and we are real lucky to have him for our President. If you want to verify that just check out the Atari SPACE page on the net and read about Mike's accomplishments and history.

Thanks and congratulation to our new Secretary, Mike Weiss, who will take on his position beginning in January, 1999. Thanks also to our out-going Secretary, Brian Little, for his added enthusiasm and help in running the meetings and auctions.

Thanks also to Glen, and Mike Schmidt for continuing their duties as DOM chairman and Newsletter Editor respectively. I will continue as Treasurer and also as Vice-President and I look forward to the new year and working with Mike Current.

Don't forget the XMAS party in December. It will be a pot luck like old times and we want everyone to come and have a good time. Remember to bring something for all to share. I hope Mike Weiss gets the list in this newsletter so that you know what to choose to bring. I will bring the beverages and Mike says he will bring the turkey again and after that I don't know what else others are bringing. It always works out so just come and have a good time and don't forget, I will have some good things to sell after the Dinner. See you all in December.

After the demise of Michael Schoedel, realise that all of us can not live forever. I own several copyrights to Atari 8-bit (over 300 with BBS Express! Pro) all modules ect. What I would like at my age of 60 would be someone intrested in not paying the $3,000.00 plus for these rights and all the time involved to create the software, but someone younger with the enegery to continue the project of keeping the Atari 8-bit alive.

The program, source code from what I have received from Keith Ledbetter until the presant day, all inbeteween what I have will be furnished for the price of $400.00..Not negociable, comes with manual text on disk file or via the internet, with all node numbers registered text file, and text doc, manuals are on ibm word perfect 5.0..but can be converted. interested offers reply e-mail.

I also own Hard Back and restore. Paid $500.00 for it, comes with source code and manual docs on computer format..source on disk manual on disk. Make offer.

DK-Utilites for the Black Box and MIO and BBS Express! Professional command modules..make offer..

Life is short may someone younger meet the challange..

I have some other stuff if interested in persuing items ask via e-mail.

Hi everyone, just wanted to let you all know that we released the Pooldisk Too cdrom as of October 24th. The ABBUC's yearly meeting (JHV) was the trigger to release the cdrom. We've spend some time to make the sleeves of the cdrom attractive as well this time. Anyway, as of now you can order a copy of this 2 disk cdrom set if you want for just $20, and that includes shipping to anywhere on this planet.

You'll get approximately 5,000 .ATR disks for this, a lot of pictures, scans of covers, some internet related thingies, an electronic version of Mapping the Atari, pc programs, st programs, and a lot more. Both disks are almost completely filled. Remember all the material on these disks are pd freeware or shareware, or put on there with permission of the copyright owners. You won't find any illegal programs on it. For some of the material, we have been granted the right to put it on the CD, with the restriction that the stuff is not be copied further, so for personal use only. Anyway, enough of this legal stuff.

If you like a copy, send a money order or a check drawn on an US bank for an amount of $20 to:

Ernest R. Schreurs
Kempenlandstraat 8
5211 VN Den Bosch
The Netherlands

Please include a note telling us the shipping address. If you have any questions, feel free to send email to ernest@wxs.nl or send a letter to the above address.

Thank you.
