For those not familiar withthis fine game, let me just say thatit involves a small, no}ot-too-stronglittle man who must push severalobjects around the screen until thoseobjects are in their appointp}Gedplaces. You must use a joystick tocontrol his movements (up, down, left, right.) In order to move theobject, q}q you must have the man justadjacent to the object. Whileholding the fire button down, movethe stick in the dir}rection the objectis to move. This game looks a lotsimpler than it is, as you'lldiscover. The game comes withs}Y twelvelevels, and you can create your ownwith its built-in construction set. Please] anotee that the game'sdocut}mentation is in German, and thatseveral screen features are alsowritten in German. "Bitte Warten,"means, "Please u}Wait." You should beable to figure out the others. We have received condolence messages from the world-around -- from Interne{}t. Genie, the New Nest BBS, America on Line, and Fido Net. ALEX lived Atari! Yet, he made time for dinners and ba|}rbecues for its members and their spouses. He worried about the health and welfare of our members from near a}}nd from afar--and kept us informed in his newsletters. He appreciated all endeavors of each and every member to~}Ǜ educate and inform his fellow colleagues of new and upcoming programs and uses of their 8-bit Atari } with its components. He even permitted two of my children to demonstrate programs at meetings. Such was his r}espect for the young and upcoming Atari users! Yes, He lived Atari! He endlessly searched for new programs, be }they from computer magazines or from our world-wide membership. (He loved to revise some, too!) We thank members f}Grom the LONG ISLAND ATARI USERS GROUP who paid their respects at the funeral parlor and at the funeral. The OL'HA}CKERS ATARI USERS GROUP is presenting a plaque to ALEX'S wife, MARIE, in order to demonstrate our devotion and appr}eciation to this unique, appreciated, and mourned man. We also mourn the passing of our fellow member, Will}iam Sminkey, from El Toro, California. He, at his own expense, sent a printer to Octavian Grecu, a member in Romania}. I am proud to witness such wonderful dedication and generosity within our organization. THE OL'HACKERS wish }to thank members from the LEHEIGH VALLEY ATARI USERS GROUP and the LONG ISLAND ATARI USERS GROUP who attended our July }meeting. At the August meeting, I suggested that the members and their spouses spend a week-end at a resort, perhap}s in the Poconos or in the Catskills, so that we can all get to know each other better. I have been a member of OL'} HACKERS since May, 1987 and vice president and membership chairman for the last few years. My three children, ages}, 18, 13, and 11 love the Atari. It has taught them reading and typing at a very early age. JOSEF LEBER is o}ur new vice president. Good luck to him! We will continue the OL' HACKERS as before--always open to help and}C suggestions from our dedicated fellow members! Bye for now! h#j}j o=o=o=o=o= BMINUTES OF THE JULY 1996 MEETINGO `GENERAL MEETING:m m}-}Ǜ JACK GEDALIUS opened our JULY meeting by thanking ALAN SHARKIS for having the local members over to his house for a} demonstration tying ATARI with IBM and the Internet. He gave us a delicious lunch, a beautiful spread and we all } appeciate it. We thank him very much for it. We had a plaque made up in honor of ALEX PIGNATO. Jack and RO}N FETZER worked on it. The plaque was passed around. REPORTS: RON gave the treasury report as being in the black. }ALAN reported there is now a Web page on the Internet which is bringing back old issues of ANTIC Magazine. He prom}Gised support to members who wish to access the Internet with their 8-bits. Another thing Alan stated is that at }present he has received only one other newsletter from another group and was wondering if any of them were still go}ing to Alex's address. These newsletters help us out in writing our own newsletter. Alex's family, while promising }to help us with club activities, has not been able to do so. HARRY TUTHILL indicated he would talk with GAIL PIGNAT}O about club equipment. Harry reports that doorprize discs are made up. There are going to be some lucky people!}Ǜ JACK asked HAROLD PEGLER if there was any new information on the library? Harold is going to start working on anothe}r catalog disc with all the latest additions; Disc #4. JACK called for a vote on a new vice president. A request }was also made for a report on correspondence. JACK has some correspondence from E- Mail, and he read just a few items}Ǜ into the minutes: From BEN POEHLAND on Internet - I am stunned by the news of Alex's sudden death. The man was pra}ctically an institution. It was Alex who held the club together. He stood with me shoulder to shoulder when we ha}d to deal with those impossible people in Ann Arbor. He stood like a rock ... and was someone I could rely on. Wi}th Alex's passing we have lost not only one leader, our leader and guiding light, but more important we have lost} an inspiration that Alex provided to the group. TOM ANDREWS - I am practically speechless, this was so unexpec}ted. The ATARI Committee has lost one of its staunch enthusiars. I have lost a good friend. I am going to miss h}im. May he be where 8-bits are plentiful and hardware never fails. And we got the same thing from the NEW NEST B}BS, and from LYLE L on the NEWNEST and from TOM HUNT on INTERNET, from W. BURGER of ABBUC, from CURTIS VENDEL} on FIDONET, from DAVE KUTLER from England, from DANE STEGMAN, from JOHN MORDOSKY and they all say basically the same}E thing. The Secretary got some correspondence as follows: GARDEN CITY ACE and VICTORIA CANADA - condolences for Alex}. They also tell who wrote this SUB ATTACK type program that we modified from the original. And I answered and t}hanked them for the information and their condolences. We got a letter in response to a letter sent to JEAN }BROKAW of PACE SETTER saying that we will continue being as close as we always were. They sent us a note saying }I hope this will not change anything. I sent a letter to LARRY TISCHBEIN who wanted information. I sent a condolenc}e letter to SYLVIA SMINKEY, and I sent a condolence letter on behalf of the club, and we got these thank you}'s from the PIGNATO family for the flowers we sent at the funeral. Someone mentioned there are people on FIDONET } who have urged that the Dragon Lord Game, they would like to know where it's available. I said we would contact the} author. RON will write to the author. A call was made by the President for the election of a new Vice President. JI}M HARRIS and JOSEF LEBER were nominated and JOSEF LEBER was elected. JACK mentoned that we have to change}5 the newsletter disc to reflect those changes.E PPOTPOURRI:` `j- AL MANNELLA as}ked about a data base for his coin collection. Fortunately JOHN HARDIE had donated surplus hardware and software }e for the club members. One of the programs was Home Filing manager which solved Al's problem.i nAlso,r vJACKz GED}ALIUS subsequently demonstrated the program for Al's benefit. ITEM: JACK suggested it would be nice for an activity} of the club to have a weekend away with our wives to a country resort -- something a little different. RON FET}ZER suggested a vote next year on this proposal. JACK offered a suggestion that we could start our meeting at 1 PM i}nstead of 11:30 AM. Discusson followed and the decision was to meet again on September 21 at the same time a}C>s usual. JACK notes that day is the first day of Fall.I [ATARI EXPERIENCE:f fw- Ala}n Shaarkis related that he saw a preview of the latest emulator called RAINBOW made by the same guy that made an emu}lator which runs on the McIntosh, however this is RAINBOW 95 and runs under Windows 95. The preview version ru}ns with a small window on the desk top. The author has promised other things in a version-to-come. So far, } it's the nicest thing Alan has ever seen in terms of what the screen looks like. It has no sound, it cannot load a}ny more than 16K under the operating system. That will change as time goes on, but it will accept ROM imag}es of the operating systems of an 800, an 800XL and eventually of a 130XE; and if you happen to have the ROM image, }r it will also emulate a 5200 game machine. The 5200 has very similar instructons to an 800 computer.v Alan }[will watch its progress because he's writing an article for LIAUG on emulation.g wDEMONSTRATIONS:} } - JACK GEDALIUS' daughter, Rebecca, demonstrated ONE ON ONE, a basketball game from ELECTRONIC} ARTS with impressive graphics. She did a very commendable job. JACK GEDALIUS gave a demonstration of HOME FILING }MANAGER, an ATARI program which will be very useful for AL MANNELLA.
