[ONLY WORK ON THE DUPLICATE COPY!] Now, what you will have to do is deler}te the files called AUTORUN.SYS and HELP.DOC on your new duplicate disk, and then RENAME the file AUTORUN.BBS to AUTORUs}N.SYS. This is the handler for the AMIS program and when booted, will also run the main program for you. Using DOS,t} copy the two DOC files on the disk to your printer. (Use DOS func.'C' and just type in, AMISXM10.DOC,P: and hit Returnu}, then RING.DOC,P: if you are using the 835 or 1030 modem with this program. This will dump the contents of these filv}es to your printer for you to read. Ρ REMEMBER TO MAKE A BACK-UP COPY OF THE DISK FIw}RST! ONLY WORK WITH THE BACK-UP COPY! Programs Required are, AMISXM10.BBS AUTORUN.BBS INITBBS.BAS M}SGPACK.BAS MSGFIX.BAS* Bootdisk: Your boot disk (Load disk) willrequire the following files:AMISXM10, AUTORUN.}BBS and eitherATARI DOS 2.0 or DOSXL. RENAME theAUTORUN.BBS file to AUTORUN.SYS.Your Load disk is now ready.* Data files} required: WELC (ASCII mode Welcome) WELCAMOD (Atari Welcome message) HELP FUNC BULL OTHERBBS IN}DEX (On Drive 2) NEWU DOWNLOAD FILES (On Drive 2) These are all data files that youwill find on the AMIS disk. U}seAtariwriter, Textwizard or any othergood text editor program to make oredit these data files. Welc and Welcamod are t}he welcomemessages for ASCII and ATASCII (ATARIMODE) caller. You can use all theATARI control characters you want inthe }Welcamod data file. This is thefile Atari callers will see when theylog on the board in ATARI mode. Help, Func, and Newu} data files areall caller information files thatwill help the user with the systemsfunctions. HELP is a detailedexplanat}ion of BBS commands. FUNC isa very brief summary of these samecommands. NEWU is a file detailingsome features for the f}irst time user. OTHERBBS data file is a list of other boards (BBS'S) givinginformation about the location, hoursof oper}ation, baud rate and phonenumber. INDEX will be on drive 2 along withall of your downloads. All of yourdownload files} must carry a UDLextender to show up in the file directory of the board program.* Initializing your BBS: Format a new} disk for your messagebase and data files and write DOSto it. This will stop the disk drivefrom spinning constantly if you} havea power failure and the power comesback on while the board isunattended. Finished? Now load INITBBS, place thef}ormatted disk into drive 1 and RUNthe program. This will initialize themessage base and callers file. If youare using two }or more drives makethe message base about 300 sectors. This program creates 4 files. TheMESSAGE.DAT is the actual file whic}hwill contain your messages. The fileMESSAGE.ISM is the note and pointfile so the board may find thelocation of the mess}age. These fileswill need to be compactedperiodically. The CALLER.DAT file isalso controlled by note and point, however }it is a circular file andself-maintaining. The final file,CONFIG, holds such information as thecurrent caller number, next} messagelocation, file pointer of nextcaller, and high message number. Now that we have the message baseinitialized al}ong with the callersand config files we can start settingup the the WORK disk. Take all of thedata files you made up, Help}, Func,Newu etc... and transfer them to yourmessage base disk. This will now becalled the WORK DISK and will be putin dri}ve 1 after you have loaded inthe BBS program. Downloads will be on drive 2 alongwith the INDEX file. All downloadsMUS}T have a .UDL extender. Uploads will go to drive number1 and have a .UDL extender. Makesure you leave enough space on }thisdrive for your uploads.* Running AMIS Before you RUN the program youmight want to make some modificationsof your} own. To turn on the AUTOANSWER in the XM301 you will have toremove the REMark statement fromline 10085. You can delete li}ne 10083if you like.NOTE: IF YOU ARE USING THE 835 OR 1030 MODEM THEN DO NOT REMOVE THE REMark STATEMENT FROM} LINE 10085. IF YOU DO YOUR PROGRAM WILL LOCK-UP!!! The WAITRING screen has a linethat reads, MESSAGE SECOTRS} LEFT: toget the correct count of the sectorsleft you will have to add the numberof sectors in your MESSAGE.DAT fileto th}e number of sectors that yourDOS file takes up.For example, DOS .SYS 023 + MESSAGE.DAT 200 ___________}________ = A total of 223 sectors. Now look at line 10156 in your AMISprogram and install that figure inplace of the} zero. e.g. (223+3)-MSECTGot it? Now you will be able to seehow many sectors you have left towrite to in the message bas}e. If thisfigure gets down to around a count of10 then it is time to compact yourmessage base. Now, just one more thin}g. In line10999 you might want to replace theword (Sysop) with your own name. e.g.NAME$="Mike (Sysop)" this way whenyou l}og on by pressing the start keythe board will know who you are.Is this great or what? Ok, now lets boot up the board.}Place your LOAD disk in drive 1 and your DOWNLOAD disk in drive 2 andpower up the system. The programwill prompt you to e}nter Todays date, the day of the week (Sunday=1Saturday=7) and the currenttime (24 hour clock). It will thenprompt you wit}h "Work disk in?" Nowyou must install the WORK DISK thatyou worked so hard on into drive #1.Type 'Y' and hit .If} all goes according to plan, theboard will be up and running and thetime will be displayed on the screenalong with the num}ber of messages inthe message base and the last messagenumber. Also the name of the lastcaller. This board has a 1 hour t}ime limitfor each call and will log-off thecaller if a key is not pressed within 5 minutes.* Sysop Menu and functions.} (accessed by typing ^ or (Bk Space) at the main menu prompt.) (1-4) disk directories. This option will let you vie}w the files on whichever drive you choose. (D)elete, (L)ock (R)ename, (U)nlock Delete, lock, unlock and rename } your disk files from the SYSOP menu. Be sure to specify the D: e.g. To rename a file, select R. When asked for }a filespec, type D2:WELC.BAS,WELC.UDLFunctions with caller on line, Select= Chat Mode at any prompt. CTRL+X= Exi}t Chat mode.Function without caller on line, Start = Access to board without logging on. Hit delete b}ackspace at any prompt or a "^" for the sysop menu. This option takes you directly to the main } menu prompt. Select = Access the board by logging on as if you had called from an outside } location. You will see all files, including the welcome message, as if you were a standard calle}r. You DO still have access to the Sysop menu. Option = Access the board via the Sysop menu.NO}TE: Remember to take the phone off the hook when working on the board so that anyone that calls will get a }busy signal.MAINTENANCE: The file MSGPACK allows you tocompact your message base. It willremove all killed messages an}d offeryou the choice of saving or deletingany remaining messages. It is a goodidea to DUPLICATE your work diskbefore com}pacting the message base. You must compact your message diskwhen it is near its limit. The killfunction does NOT physicall}y erasethe message from the disk. The file MSGFIX allows you to dothe same as above but will create anew MESSAGE.ISM fi}le so you can movethe message base or repair it if itgets scrambled. It is also a good idea to duplicatethe WORK disk onc}e a week. Use DOSfunction J or a sector copier. DoNOT simply try copying the files toanother disk. One of the special }feature of thisBBS is a subroutine called PRINTTRAP.This routine prevents any controlcharacters from being sent to yourpr}inter. It is set up to check anyinformation normally sent to theprinter at both logon and logoff. Itdoes not check the m}essage base soyour callers may use graphics intheir messages. Another special feature in thisboard program is the dual }screendisplay. This allows the sysop toview the system simultaneously withthe caller. This is referred to asthe Z: DRIVER}.
