Files cancontain logon ?}keypresses or textto be sent over the modem. Whenever the auto typer encounterstext embedded between inverseslash charact@}ers, it willwait for the delimited text to bereceived from the modem beforecontinuing. Only the last fiveletters of any A}delimited text aresignificant. Whenever the AutoTyper encounters the Right Arrowcharacter it will simulatepressing the SB}TART key.Disk MenuLets you see the diskettedirectory, view a file, delete afile, or format a diskette. To DOSGo to DOSC} (providing DOS is ondiskette in drive 1).Answer PhoneLets two users connect twocomputers via telephone line (e.g.AtariD} Home Computer to Atari HomeComputer). The Answer Phone optionis only available for modems thatdo not need the Atari 850 E}interface(e.g. Atari 835 or 1030). WhenAnswer Phone is selected, themessage "Waiting for Connection" isdisplayed. This F}message indicatesthat the modem is waiting for acomputer tone on the telephoneline. To stop waiting, pressSTART to returG}n to the MAIN MENU.Dial PhoneDial Phone is only available withmodems that do not need the Atari850 interface (e.g. AtariH} 835 or1030). This option gives you aprompt asking for a phone number. You can type a phone number andpress return to diaI}l the number. You can also supply the name of afile on diskette that contains aphone number and perhaps some logonkeypressJ}es as well (see help forthe Auto Typer). The promptactually comes up "Phone Number:*.PHN." Pressing return at thisprompK}t lists all the files ondrive 1 containing PHN extenders(i.e. phone numbers). This is necessary to see\} textwritten under the Main Menu. use the HELP command inDiskLink, you must have a filecalled DISKLINK.HLP on a disk in% The TSCOPE Terminal Program Preliminary Documentation The TSCOPE terminal program waswritten by Joe Mill^}er [70007,546],for the members of SIG*ATARI, as a LIMITED featured program, to bridgethe gap until a more COMPLETE terminal_} program is available. Specifically, it will allow users of the 1030 ATARI modems totransfer (UPLOAD and DOWNLOAD) both`}ASCII and BINARY files to SIG*ATARI and save them to disk. ***Note*** As TSCOPE supports theCompuserve B-Protocol fortraa}nsferring files, it will NOTwork on an ATARI BBS. TSCOPE doesnot support file transfers tocassette. Booting TSCOPEb}TSCOPE should be renamed toAUTORUN.SYS. First, remove theBASIC cartridge, turn on the diskdrive and any other peripheralsc}.Then, powerup your ATARI with thisdisk in drive 1. TSCOPE commands To see a menu of availablecommands, hit td}he HELP key on XLmodels or the ATARI key on the400/800 computers. When you seethe key-combo: CON-6 that meansto hold dowe}n any of the CONsolekeys and hit the number 6. Thecommands are self explainatory. Toquit TSCOPE and go to the DOSmenu, yof}u must have a disk withDUP.SYS in D1: and simultaneouslydepress a CONsolekey, the CTRL key, and the ESC key.The BREAK keyg} sends a CTRL-C toCompuserve when online. Be carefulnot to hit the BREAK key when youmean to hit the BACKSPACE. TheCTRL-Ch} will abort MOST Compuserveoperations. Setting CIS to VIDTEX defaults While TSCOPE is not a fullversion of a Compi}userve VIDTEXterminal program, it will supportsome of the VIDTEX functions, including the UPL andDOW commands for file traj}nsfers, andthe ONLINE color graphics availableon various parts of the system. However, you must ALSO configureyour CIS terk}minal parameters tothe VIDTEXstandards. To do this, go to pageCIS-9 and follow the menus. Whenasked for a terminal type, l}pickVIDTEX. If TSCOPEwill be the ONLY terminal programyouwill use on CIS, exit DEFAULT (item6), and when prompted, choosm}e tomake this configuration PERMANENTFOR ALL FUTURE SESSIONS. If, however, you are like manyATARI users, and will be n}using otherterminal programs in addition toTSCOPE, you should do the following: 1-Follow the same procedure asabove, buo}t when exiting, select to make these terminal defaults for the CURRENT SESSION ONLY. 2-Immediately upon exiting theDEFAULp}T program, from any page ofDISPLA, type 'PRO' to get to the OKprompt. Then to define the currentterminal settings as a uniq}que file that can be invoked by a single name use the command: TER DEF VIDTEX. 3-Then, whenever you log on toCompuserve ir}n the future usingTSCOPE, when prompted for your USERID:, enter your PPN with an '*' andthe name of the terminal settings s}youwish to invoke. In our example, itmight look like this: User ID:76703,254*VIDTEX If you need assistance indefint}ing alternate terminalconfigurations as in the exampleabove, leave a message tothe SYSOPs. FILE TRANSFERS u} TSCOPE will support filetransfers ONLY on CIS using theirERROR-FREEB-Protocol. When you wish to UPLoadTO or DOWnload v}FROM Compuserve, thefollowing conventions apply: 1-Use the (S)can or (BRO)wsecommands in the XA's to determine theexact w}name of the file on CIS youwish to DOWnloadto your ATARI and save to disk. 2-To initiate the file transfer, use the commax}nd: DOW filename (wherefilename is the name of the pgm onCompuserve). 3-After the system determines youare using TSCOPE y}or any VIDTEXcompatible terminal program, it willask you for a filename to be used bythe ATARI when it saves the program.z}Enter a full, valid ATARI filespec(it does not need to be the same nameas the file on CIS) in the form:D:FILENAM.EXT 4-T{}he system will then take overand write the program directly toyour disk. You will be notified uponcompletion, or if it abo|}rted for anyreason. To UPLoad a file from your ATARIto Compuserve, you must: 1-Have the file available on yourdisk}}. 2-Use the command: UPL filename(where filename is a valid Compuservefilename up to 6 letters with a 3char. extender) ~} **Note** CIS places specialimportance upon the 3 letter extenderwhen you select a filename. If youare uploading a binary }file, you MUSTuse the extender BIN. 3-The system will ask you for thefilespec of the program as it isnamed on your disk.} 4-When you UPLoad a file to our XA's, you will be expected to providea few meaningful KEYWORDS. Enter 2-4single keys, se}parated by a space.End KEYWORD input with . 5-You will be asked to provide aSHORT description explaining yourpro}gram. Don't try to cram all theDOC into this space. The information belowdescribes ho }w to create a file calledAUTODIAL.SYS on your TSCOPE disk. This feature is especially handy forusers of the Atari 835/1030 } modems. -- Joe Miller 8 July 84 _____________________________________ } AUTODIAL.SYSTo use the auto-dial and logonfacility, you must create a file onyour TSCOPE disk with } the name'AUTODIAL.SYS'. Any text editor maybe used to do this. The format ofthe file should be: telephone nu }mber[ logon informationThe telephone number may contain upto 18 digits. The vertical barcharacter '|' may be } embedded withinthe telephone number to pause forthree seconds between digits. Youmay wish to embed other s }pecialcharacters for readability, such as'-' or ' '; only the digits 0 thru 9will actually be dialed. The leftbrac }ket ('[') should be used toterminate the telephone number. Itis used as a 'pause' character by theprogram, allowi }ng you to start theactual dialling process by pressing[RETURN] after the disk has been'booted'. If you replac }e the '['character with a [RETURN], theprogram will start the dialling andlogon sequence immediately after it }has been loaded. The logon information is the stringof characters you would normallyenter from the keyboard yours }elf togain access to the informationservice of your choice. Typically,it will contain at least a 'username'and } a 'password'. Usually, theprocess of signing on to a service isdone in a series of 'steps', with thehost service } prompting you forinformation along the way. In orderfor TSCOPE to do this for youautomatically, you wil }l need todescribe this prompting sequencewithin your AUTODIAL.SYS file. Theright bracket character (']') i }sreserved for just this purpose. Whena ']' is found within the string,TSCOPE quits sending characters, reads th }e next character in thestring, and waits until that matchesa character sent by the host service. When it finds a mat }ch, it continuessending the string. For example, ifthe information system uses thislogon sequence: USERNAME: } PASSWORD:the logon string would look like: ]:myusername ]:mypasswordThis instructs TSCOPE to look for th }efirst ':', send 'myusername', thenwait for another ':' and transmit'mypassword'.Control characters may be embedd }ed inthe logon string either by typing theactual control character (ASCII 0thru 31), or by entering thetwo-c }haracter sequence '^x'. Where'x' is the ASCII character on thekeyboard you wish to 'control'. (ie.'^C' will be tra }nsmitted as 'CTRL-C'or ASCII ETX, 03)Example AUTODIAL.SYS file:Here is an example of the entirecontents of an } AUTODIAL.SYS filewhich will dial the telephone, waitfor the answering system to respondwith a carrier signal, } send a'Control-C', wait for a ':'character, send a username, wait foranother ':', send the password, thenw }ait for a "!" character and, finallysend the command 'GO PCS-132' : 555-1234[^C]:76543,210 ]:MY*PASSWORD ]!G }O PCS-132NOTE: The EOL characters in the AUTODIAL.SYS are converted to carriage returns (ASCII 13) a }nd sent to the host service. The Compuserve ATARI S!&}IG SYSOPsare pleased to announce theavailability of a revolutionary newterminal program for all 835, 850,and 1030 modem o!'}wners. This programwas written in Deep Blue C by KenFowkes of Atari.*** DISKLINK is a highly unusualprogram, and has no!(}t yet beenthoroughly tested and documented. Butrather than delay its availability,we have decided to let each userexperim!)}ent with its operationor wait until the sysops have gainedsome familiarity with it. The authorhas provided brief documenta!*}tion, butwill not be able to reply to messagesrequesting individual help. ANYQUESTIONS REGARDING THIS PROGRAMSHOULD BE AD!+}DRESSED TO THE SIG*ATARISYSOPS WHO MAY OR MAY NOT BE ABLE TOPROVIDE HELP AT THIS TIME. If you area novice to telecommunica!,}tions, youare using this program at your ownrisk. FEATURES of DISKLINK DISKLINK is written in Deep Blue C.I!-}t is a 2 part program, including the178 sector compiled terminal program, and a 50 sector supplementalhelptext. DISKLIN!.}K supports file transfersbetween two ATARIs running thisprogram in 2 modes- ASCII text andmodified XMODEM protocol. Asdes!/}cribed in one of the DOC filesprovided by the author, it ispossible to modify AMODEM and theAMIS BBS programs to make them!0}compatable with DISKLINK. Thenecessary modifications are available in Compuserve's XA 2. SUMMARY Well,"}}DISKLINK'S FILE TRANSFER PROTOCOL DiskLink uses the well knownand widely used public domain filetransfer protocol ca52}lled XMODEM,which was developed by WardChristensen for sending filesbetween CPM systems. Unfortunatly for Atari us53}ers,the XMODEM protocol as initiallyimplemented did not includeprovisions for sending files thatare not an exact multiple54} of 128bytes in length (i.e. most Atarifiles). Fortunately for Atari users, almost all the commonimplementations of 55}XMODEM for theAtari happen to use the samegeneral approach to get aroundthis problem. They include in thelast 128-byte b56}lock of thetransmission a byte-count tellinghow much of that block containsvalid data. Both the AMODEMterminal program a57}nd the AMISbulletin board system replicate thebyte-count in all the unused bytesof the last block of thetransmission. Di58}skLink replicatesthe byte-count in the manner ofAMODEM and AMIS when sending afile. However, it uses only thelow order s59}even bits of the lastbyte of the last block indetermining the byte-count whenreceiving files. This gives itcompatibilit5:}y with Chameleon onthe one hand, and AMIS and AMODEMon the other. The down side ofthis is that DiskLink can't sendand re5;}ceive from CPM systems(where XMODEM originated!) Unfortunately, for otherreasons, DiskLink is notcompatible with the5<} currentversions of the XMODEM protocol ineither AMIS and AMODEM as they nowfunction. In order to help outnovice users, 5=}DiskLink allows twousers to type back and forth (in asomewhat halting fashion) DURINGfile transfer. This allows anexperi5>}enced user to guide a noviceuser through his or her first fewfile transfers. Or, two users cantype to each other just to5?}overcome the boredom of long filetransfers. This feature makes itnecessary for DiskLink to sendXOFF to stop the user at th5@}e otherend from typing during disk readsand writes when characters typedwould otherwise "fall on thefloor". The current 5A}version ofAMODEM (version 4.2) can'tdistinguish XOFF from SOH (whichstarts a transmission) so it"jumps the gun" and start5B}sreceiving blocks before they aresent. The current version of AMIS(version ??) can't distinguishXOFF from CAN (which abo5C}rts thefile transfer altogether) so itgives up before things even getstarted. Fortunately, both theseproblems are m5D}inor and easy tofix. Updated versions of AMODEMand AMIS are available in XA2under the names AMODEM.NEW andAMIS-1.NEW (AMI5E}S-1.NEW replacesAMIS-1.BBS -- AMIS-2.BBS remainsunchanged). Those of you whoalready have the current versionsof these pr5F}ograms (fromCompuServe) can download just thechanges (AMODEM.MOD and AMIS.MOD)and ENTER them over your existingversions t5G}o save time. Unfortunately, there are quitea few copies of both these popularprograms floating around. If youtry Di5H}skLink and like it, pleasetake the time to pass one or bothof these updated versions on toyour favorite BBS. protocol ca4q new disk. 4. Turn off your computer, insert the BASIC cartridge, put your new disk in the disk drive%J} and turn on your 1030 modem and any other peripherals con- nected to your computer, then turn yo%K}ur computer on. 5. When the "835 HANDLER" AND "READY" prompts appear type RUN "D:AMODEM42.835" 6. Re%L}ad the following for a description of AMODEM's features._____________NOTE: THE FOLLOWING IS FROM ANTICM%M}AGAZINE (JULY, 1984).AMODEM is a terminal program thatallows you to access all publicbulletin boards, as well astime-sh%N}aring services like CompuServeand The Source. It features theXMODEM protocol for easy uploadingand downloading from many %O}Atari andCP/M bulletin board systems (BBS's). XMODEM is the only way to downloadnon-ATASCII (tokenized BASIC andbinary) f%P}iles. Press [SELECT] for a list of AMODEM'sfunctions, then press the lettercorresponding to the highlightedletter in the%Q} desired function'sname. Note that this isn't alwaysthe first letter.R - Receive. Use this function todownload from an%R}other Atari or from aBBS that uses XMODEM protocol. Ifyou're downloading from an Atari BBSthat uses XMODEM, it will ask y%S}ou ifyou're using XMODEM protocol. Answer"Y", then follow these instructions. If you and a friend are transferringfiles %T}between your Atari's, youshould both be using AMODEM. Afteryou press [R], you're prompted for afile specification for the%U} file to bedownloaded. The file specificationincludes the device name and, ifapplicable, a file name. If you'reusing ca%V}ssette, you need only type"C:". After you answer the prompt, the file is opened immediately, somake sure your storage peri%W}pheral andmedia are properly prepared. Onceyou're back in terminal mode, justpress [START] (as prompted by theBBS, if ev%X}erything is OK), and therest of the download is automatic. The screen turns red, and the file isreceived in 128-byte block%Y}s. Whentransfer is complete, the file issaved, the screen turns blue, andyou're returned to terminal mode.U - Upload.T%Z}his function allows you to sendfiles to another system that usesXMODEM protocol. The procedure issimilar to that for down%[}loading (seeR above). After you press [SELECT]and [U], respond to the prompt forupload file specification, whereuponAMOD%\}EM reads the file from theperipheral. Once back in terminalmode, press [START] and the file isautomatically transmitted.&o} $ e#Q e# $` `TuN% `l^} L)`*) LE ) $ %Y g#L $`) %Q e# $_}`) [ɛ&`BJ Y 8A ` z!i{!i!l`})`Jȭ)0 4 ɛ)@ ` ) }` ) <% 1%) # #a}x E% %X`))`JLEX # #x E% XJJ)# b}1%) ! <%)0 ` <% }`J)@Lg"LE`,lHҥҩh@ؘHc} ҙ !
