The shipment of DRAM chips fro9<}m Tiwan is long overdue. Jack needs those chips so he can finish building enough of our favorite computers in time to supply 9=}the U.S. market. At the same time a rival computer manufacturer is shipping thousands of his brand of computers to Europe. Th9>}is could upset Jack's market there. For our favorite brand of computer to survive, Jack must get the chips soon and those oth9?}er computers must not get to Europe. This is Big Business. We all know that Business is War and War is .. Well, its a dirty j9@}ob but someone has to do it. Can YOU help?Its really pretty simple. Guide your fleet of ships into the harbor at San Franci9A}sco Bay. You'll be in charge of five ships. There is the Cargoship full of DRAM chips, a fuel Tanker, a Submarine, a Destroye9B}r, and a Battleship. I did mention that this is War didn't I? The other guys have the same ships in their fleet so those gun 9C}ships are important. The other guys are shipping their computers out of the same harbor and they will stop at nothing to keep9D} you from getting into the harbor. Don't let them win. You must sink all their ships before they sink yours. Remember, Jack i9E}s counting on you.Good Luck Captain!After loading the program you will be presented with a menu. Use the SELECT/OPTION ke9F}ys to change the settings to your liking.The first two choices are the players. There are always two players. They can be e9G}ither human or computer. Player 1 uses Joystick 1 and Player #2 uses Joystick 2.The next choice is Time of day. During the 9H}day you can see what you have hit. In the evening you can only tell that you hit a ship but not what kind of ship it is. At n9I}ight... Well you'll be in the dark but listen for your shells to hit.Next set the number of shots per turn. You can have fr9J}om 1 to 5. If you select 5 you will lose a shot for each one of your ships that gets sunk.The handicap applies only to play9K}er #2. Set from 0 to 5, Player #2 will get this number of extra shots per turn.These settings will now stay from game to ga9L}me unless changed by the SELECT/OPTION keys.**Once everything is set, press START or move either joystick to begin play. Us9M}e you joystick to position your guns on the grid and press the fire button to shoot. After your turn the tally of "hits" on e9N}ach ship is shown at the right. A (-1) indicates that ship has been sunk. When all five of either player's ships have been s9O}unk the computer will announce the winner and display the location of all the ships on grid #1. Pressing either fire button a9P}lternates the display between grid #1 and grid #2.Hits required to sink each ship.Battleship 5Cargoship 4Destroyer 9Q} 4Submarine 3Tanker 2Press START or move either stick to play again. You may also press START during a game to res9R}tart from scratch.nker 2Press START or move either stick to play again. designed to make your ATARI woN}rk for you. Record format is LEFT UP TO YOU, not dictated by the program. Menu driven "ONE KEY" commands make it easy for youN} to get started right away. Although you could probably use this program without any instructions, you should review this docN}umentation in order to become familiar with some of the not so obvious features that will help you to get the most out of SeaN}rch System II.RequirementsAny 8-bit ATARI Computer with BASIC and at least 48K. One disk drive (any density). Printer (opN}tional).Getting startedWhen Search System II is RUN you will be presented with the Main Menu.Main MenuThe Main Menu sN}creen presents you with information and command selections. Commands are entered by typing the first letter of the desired seN}lection. The first letter of each selection is displayed in inverse video. If you make a selection and change your mind, don'N}t panic. Just press RETURN until you have come back to the main menu and your data will not be lost or altered. Following is N}a detailed description of each menu item in the order that they appear.Q: Quick Search.This allows you to search the "curN}rent file" for any combination of from 1 to 38 characters. A "LIMIT" of from 1 to 10 characters may then be entered to narrowN} the Search. Both groups of characters must be found in the same record to obtain a match. If the "LIMIT" is not to be used, N}just press RETURN at the ENTER SEARCH LIMIT prompt. Any and all characters are valid. If a match is found the whole record coN}ntaining the match will be printed to the screen. A sub-menu will then appear at the top of the screen. Your choices will nowN} be:P: Print this record. Be sure your printer is on and press "P". The displayed record will be printed (see note) and youN} will be returned to the sub-menu.NOTE: Since files can be made up of any characters, including inverse video and the speciN}al ATARI characters your printer must be able to cope with them if you use them in your records.E: Edit this record. The cuN}rsor will be placed on the first character of the displayed record. You may now edit the record using any of the ATARI edit fN}unctions. ex. Backspace, Insert, and Type over. Line length can be changed, Lines can be added or deleted, and the record sizN}e will automatically adjust. If a line is to be left as is, just press RETURN when the cursor is anywhere on that line. PressN}ing RETURN on an empty line ends the record at that point and returns you to the Search Menu.D: Delete this record. You wilN}l be asked to confirm this choice, then that record will be deleted from the file in memory.M: Menu Typing M or ESCAPE willN} return you directly to the main menu.S: Search Typing S or any key other than those listed above will cause the search toN} pick up where it left off. A match may be found in several records and they will all be found and displayed with the sub-menN}u as the search continues.P: Print FileThere are two printing formats available to you.(1) If ASCII Sort is OFF then thN}e file will be printed starting from the first record and continuing till the last record has been printed or the printing prN}ocess is aborted.(2) If ASCII Sort is ON you will be asked for a starting character. You may choose any character or just pN}ress RETURN for a default character of 0 (ASCII 33). The records will now be sorted by their first character and printed in N}order beginning starting character you selected. Printing will continue till the last record in the sort has been printed or N}the printing process is aborted.As each record is printed it is echoed to the screen. Printing may be paused by pressing anN}y key. Resume printing by pressing any key or press ESCAPE to abort the printing process and return to the Main Menu.V: VieN}w FileView File works exactly the same as Print File except that the records are sent to the screen only and not to the priN}nter. The display may be paused or aborted just like in the printing mode. It may also be sped up by holding down the space bL}
