It may not be sold in any way except with the expressed written consent of the author.}INTRODUCTION"Pryzm" is a new product that allows you to display 256 colors on a screen at the same time. The resolution }is exactly the same as that of a Graphics 9/11 screen. Basically, Pryzm works by flipping between a color screen and a lumin}ance screen very quickly, so that the end effect is 16 colors with 16 luminances, for 256 colors. For best results, whenever} you use Pryzm, turn the color up high enough so the colors are extremely bright. You may also have to turn up the brightnes}s up a tad. On my color monitor, I like to turn the color up to full blast, and increase the brightness a bit.OPERATIONU}nder Spartados, simply load PZMSLIDE.COM by typing the filename. Under Dos 2 and compatibles, use the L command from the Dos} menu.Once PZMSLIDE loads, it will prompt you for the drive from which to load. Insert your data disk, and press the appro}priate key. If there are no pictures on the disk, PZMSLIDE will simply exit to the prompt again. Otherwise, the pictures wi}ll be loaded, and displayed on the screen. Pressing any key except for Escape will 'advance' the picture; pressing Escape wi}ll return you to the prompt. Once PZMSLIDE has exhausted all the pictures on the disk, it will start again with the first pi}cture. If you need to quit PZMSLIDE, press Escape from the drive prompt. on the disk, it will start again with the first piJ$ ShihiHHȱȱ`8Hh` J$E…¦ J$`LJ$` [$}"Ff ee&8L|$ [$_Wń児0 &&86.ń児8}儅充FfFf8L|$ $` Fj` &`p B V8l ]% Vhhlq%HHJJJJ}hh`hhlq% `iDiE`Hhs%`Hh`Hh`Hh` %IHiDiE B t%HI} B t%`ԆՄ ؠ0ȑ8)ȑ`HhL&0L&II襢 &iȑȩ-`H % &hL%H} % E&hL% %Lx& %L& %Lx& %L&L& %L&L& %L& %L& %L& %L& %L& %L% %L& %L% %L&}ȩ$&*i0:iȑ`s% LFĆ>%>Ć5%/E)ԵH膇hCI4}H/ g+`L- W g+{ g+`L- $-}IL-8+++L-+IL .+i++L .Ѝ++iЩ g++iЩ g++iЩ g++} g+ - $ $ee[4 + - 7% $ee}[< +d- $ $ee[X +d- 7%- - $} $ee[` + - 7% $ee[h +d-} $ $ee[ +d- 7%- - $ $ee}[ + - 7% $ee[ +`L00 n-L0Error-0 &0 & (L}0Press any key to continue0 &IL00IL 1 -`L1 $11JJJJ11 7%1+IL^1+ }Y+X111 )+IL1+Y+X111 )`L111+IL1+Y+X11 *1+IL1+ }Y+X11 * 11 1`L1 $11JJJJ11 7%1+ILC2+Y+X111 )11 } )+ILs2+Y+X111 )11 )`L|2 $t2mw2\mx2t2 $ee g+ }mw2\mx2t2 $ee g+mw2\mx2t2 $ee< g+ mw2\ }mx2t2 $ee$ g+!mw2\mx2t2 $ee< g+"mw2\mx2}t2 $ee g+#mw2\mx2t2 $ee g+mt2iv2u}2 $-e g+`LR4N4N4 $e\e +`L44m+Xi4 g++`4L48+}+m+Xi z+44` $L4 $4Щ g+Щ g+4L544L54+JJJJ4+ 7%}4+84+(+ $+e+eX +(+ $+e+e^ ++}+++O+L5+ $4 $e++ 1+L5+++ +L7(+ $}+e+e(+ $ee(+ $+e+e( +(+ $}+e+e(+ $ee(+ $+e+e( ++L 644 y}2 ,x)LK74LK7844x)Lf74Lf74x)L74L7844x)L74L7}4IL8 (++I+L74L7844+I*L74L74+I-L84L8844+I=L84L8}4 4 $1eЩ g+4 $m444++ -(+ $+e+e}4 $ড ++IC+IL#7(+ $+e+eX +(+ $}+e+e^ + ,4 $m44 O4 O4 O44`9L9 9I 9IL9 $u9}+ +v9u9 1x9x9Mw9L9`9v999u9 1y999y9Mx9L9L:9I 9IL :99L:L98}9|99v999u9 1y989999y9Mx9LO:Lp:9I 9ILm:99Lp:L":9i{99|99IL}: (+++IL:`~9u9}99}9 1y9y9Mx9L=9}9 1y99I 9IL;y9Mx9L;9i}9 1z}9z9Mx9L;u9 4v9 4{9 4|9 49 49 4}9 49 49iw9}9 9ILr; (+++IL};` 49}9 4~9}9 499 499 4|9 4{9 4v9 4u99}9 1y98}9}9~9~9y9Mx9L;L<}9I} ~9IL<~9}9L++#}+0L >8++x)L&>+OL&>+x)LM>+++0LM>8++x)Lh>+ɿLh>+IL> $}(++I+L>+++0L>8+++I*L>+OL>++I-L>+++0L>8+++I=L>+ɿL>+%}+++ -++ y2+++ y2+++ y2 +IL= O4 O4 O4 -`LL]?Y?+++&}+ y2+++++x)L?+L?8++x)L?+OL?+x)L?+L?8++x)'}L?+ɿL?+ILz@ (++I+L/@+L/@8+++I*LF@+OLF@++I-Lc@+Lc@8+++I=(}Lz@+ɿLz@+Y?++ -++ y2+IR +IL?+Y?+++ 1 O4 O4++ y2)}++++++`LL@@Ȍ@@@@L*AЩ g+@@LA`L/A+A++++ y2+++++x)*}LyA+LyA8++x)LA+OLA+x)LA+LA8++x)LA+ɿLA+ILLB (+}++I+LB+LB8+++I*LB+OLB++I-L5B+L5B8+++I=LLB+ɿLLB++A++ -,}++ y2LB++A+++ 1+IX +ILXA O4`LB )LB& ͠Ԡ B-} &LC' 砈 B &LC C &LCC B Box ()C) &LgC C .} Color ChangeCM &LC% D 譼 Directory ()Cq &LC E Toggle Edit ModeC &LC# H /} Horiz. It may be freely distributed as long as this notice is included. However, this pQ}roduct may not be sold in any way, without the expressed, written consent of the author. This does not exclude connect chargR}es for online services such as GEnie and Compuserve, nor does it prevent User Groups from making a nominal charge for club diS}skettes.STARTUPAlthough you may be able to use PRYZM ARTIST without reference to this documentation, it is highly recommeT}nded that you do so anyway.PRYZM ARTIST (PA), can be operated entirely from the keyboard, but you may find that a joystick U}will make things more convenient. To load PA, simply use SDX's X command, or type the file name from SpartaDos. In Dos 2 (aV}nd compatibles), just load it from the menu. When you first load PA, the help screen will be displayed. Pressing any key wiW}ll get out of the help screen, and pressing ? will display it again. Notice that to save space, commands of similar type havX}e been grouped together. Commands in inverse correspond to the function description also in inverse. At the drawing screen,Y} you will see a blue cursor, and an information bar at the right side of the screen. You can use the joystick to control theZ} cursor, or use the cursor keys (without pressing Control). The information bar will display your current X and Y coordinate[}s, as well as the color number you are currently using. Pressing SELECT and OPTION will move the information bar left and ri\}ght, respectively. (The bar can be moved out of sight to the left.)COMMANDSBox: When you push B or F, the cursor will t]}urn green, pointing to the upper left corner of your box. Using the joystick or the cursor keys, you can drag out the lower ^}right corner. When you are satisfied, press the trigger, or push Return, and the box or square will be drawn in the current _}color. The Box command draws a rectangle, but the Filled command will also fill it in.Color Change: When you push C, a pa`}lette will appear wherever your cursor is, and another cursor will show you what color you are currently using. With the joya}stick or cursor keys (remember, without pressing Control), you can change the current color. Moving up and down will change b}the hue; moving left and right will change the luminance. Note how the information bar changes according to the color. Whenc} you are satisfied, press C, Return, or the trigger. (If you use the trigger to exit, be careful not to hold it too long, ord} you will draw onto the screen as well.)Directory: Press D, and the screen will clear. Type in the complete directory pate}h, and press Return. When you are satisfied, press any key to resume drawing. You may use Control-1 to pause the listing.f}Toggle Edit Mode: In PA, there are three different edit modes. First is Normal Mode, which simply means that whenever you dg}raw onto the 'canvas', you replace the underlying color. Second is the Hue-Edit-Only mode. This means that when you draw, oq}B{PRYZM PZMBPRZMDEMOACTBPRZMDEMOBASB!PRZMDEMOOBJBPZMSLIDECOMB PZMSLIDETXTBaPZPREARTCOMBGOPZPREARTTXTBPZPRELIMTXTBREADME TXTBJDOS SYSB*DUP SYSnly the hue of the pixel is changed, the luminance stays the same. Finally, in Luminance-Edit-Only mode, only the luminance r}is altered, not the hue. When using the Color Change Command, you still have full access to all 256 colors, but only the hues} or luminance will be used. This is especially useful for adding color to Graphics 9 screens, which are usually greyscale. t}The color of the cursor will reflect the mode you are in. Normal editing yields a blue cursor, Hue-Only gives a red cursor, u}and Luminance-Only shows a white cursor.Pixel Average: Pressing H will direct PA to perform a pixel average horizontally. v} Pressing V will perform vertical averaging. The effect isn't very breathtaking, but it can smoothen your picture slightly. w} When invoked, a second cursor will zip across the screen, showing you approximately where it is working on. If you have to x}stop it, simply press any key, and the averaging will discontinue at the end of a row or column. These functions can be usedy} in conjuction to the Edit only modes--you can average only the luminance or the hue.Load/Save: When you press L or S for z}these commands, the screen will clear, and you will be prompted for the full filename of the file to be loaded/saved. Rememb{}er to include the device, and any necessary pathnames. (In this preliminary version, Save is not supported.)Paint Fill: T|}o fill with the current color, position the cursor to the starting point of fill, and press P. If the point is already color}}ed with the current color, it will not continue. I designed this command to imitate the pouring of a liquid, filling upwards~}. Sometimes, it may take one or two fills to fully fill the area. Again, this command can be used with the edit modes. Dur}ing the fill, the cursor will blink periodically; when it is done, the cursor will return to its natural color. If you need }to break out of the fill, simply press any key.Rays/Extending: Rays is used to draw lines, by connecting two points. When} you press R, another cursor will appear, pull it to the endpoint of your line. Press the trigger to draw it, or use R or Re}turn. Remember that you can use the cursor keys too, and that the edit modes still apply. The X command is similar, but whe}n you perform it, all lines drawn will be from a fixed center. Position your cursor to the fixed point of your choice, then }press X. Now, extend the endpoint cursor, and draw as many rays as you want. When you are done, press X or Return.Trigger} Latch: When you press T, you toggle the trigger latch function. This makes the trigger seem as if it was held down continu}ally. To use this, press T, then position your cursor, and press the trigger. Now, the trigger is latched, and you no longe}r need to hold it down. When you are done, press T again to turn it off. This is especially useful with the Extending rays }function, or just for drawing with greater precision. (Note: Do not use this with Color Change, instead, disable it first. } Or better yet, use the color cycle keys.)Quit: Pressing Control-Q will instantly perform a Warmstart, and exit to Dos. I}f location 580 contains a one, then the computer will perform a Coldstart, so be careful.Load/Save Gr.9/11: These function}s will load and save, Graphics 9 and 11 screens. Simply type in the full filename as before. When you load a Gr.9 or Gr.11 }screen, the other screen will still be present; i.e., if you load in a Gr.9 screen, its Gr.11 complement from the old screen }will still be present. Be warned, that with the save functions, (of this and normal .PZM pictures), if you run out of space }on the disk, PA will not be able to detect it. It is wise that you check the directory before you save. (These four command}s are not implemented in this preliminary version. Pressing these keys will yield a buzz, as will S for the Save command.)}Cycle colors: Sometimes, it is too troublesome to use the Color Change Command, so you can use these keys to cycle through t}he luminances, or hues. Notice that these keys are simply the cursor keys performed with Shift.Lighten/Darken: You may no}tice that Gr.9 screens sometimes appear lighter, so you can use these two functions to darken or lighten the luminance. It w}ill not affect the hue, no matter what edit mode you are in. When you darken, all colors that already have luminance of 0, s}tay that way--all other colors decrease one. The same applies for lightening, towards colors with luminance 15.Clear: Thi}s function is invoked by pressing Shift-<. This command clears, again, depending on the edit mode you are in. For example, }you may only clear out the luminances, or hues.CLOSINGYou may have noticed that PA is designed to help you add color to y}our Graphics 9 pictures. I admit that not all pictures will work well with color, but some can turn out well. (Tip: To hid}e color changes, do it under high luminances.)With a donation of $15, I will send you the full Pryzm package, which include}s modules for programming in Basic, Action!, and TBXL, Full Pryzm Artist program, Source code for Pryzm Artist, source code f}or Pryzm, a tutorial on programming in Pryzm, and much more. The resolution is exactly the same as tha!}t of a Graphics 9/11 screen. Basically, Pryzm works by flipping between a color screen and a luminance screen very quickly, !}so that the end effect is 16 colors with 16 luminances, for 256 colors. For best results, whenever you use Pryzm, turn the c!}olor up high enough so the colors are extremely bright.
