Sprite Painter V1.35

Documentation file

Sprite Painter is a tool for creating and editing sprites for Commodore 64. It has all features that are required for a comfortable work, including Windows GUI mouse (yeaahhh! C64 + Amiga mouse, or original C1351! Who have this kind of hardware?:) ), Windows standard file requesters, etc.

The main dialog box (main window) consists of workspace, thumbnail viewer, color selectors, some tools and options buttons. Thumbnail view is used to select an appropriate 24*21 (or 12*21 multicolor) sprite for working on it. When You select it, it is copied to workspace, and You can begin editing. The program is capable to edit multisprites with dimension of 4*4 single sprite. Just click on a thumb view to select any sprite You want to exhange with the actual workspace.

The "Commodore palette" is used to select an appropriate color for drawing pen or background for the sprite. First select a drawing color from the "Colors" box, and change it to any of the colors in the "Commodore palette", just clicking on it.

"Clear" tool clears only the pixels in the actual workspace, leaving all colors untouchable.

"Undo" undoes the last operation You did.

Scrollers are used to move actual workarea's pixels one step up, down, left and right.

"Grid" turns grid on/off in the workarea.

"Multicolor" is one of the main functions; using this, the actual sprite becomes a lo-res multi-color, with an original VIC chip data representation. (00, 01, 10, 11 pixels).

The menu options "New" clears all thumbnails, the main workarea, and resets the colors.

The options "Open", "Save", "Save As..." are for opening and saving thumbnails (all 16 sprites) in an own, sprite painter format.

"Load Buffer" and "Save Buffer" are using sprite painter's own format for saving and loading only the actual sprite's datas (workarea)

"Export Buffer" menu option exports the actual sprite's datas for a Commodore 64, in its VIC chip format (63 Bytes). This is the output of this program.
