They're building military installations in preparation for a full scale assa }ult on the earth. They're searching for precious minerals that they believe are abundant in our oceans. Your objective is to }destroy as many of these surface installations as possible. If you can slow down the progress of the enemy, we on earth will }gain valuable time to prepare for the onslaught. This feature is useful }if the phone rings while you're in the middle of a record game. 13THE HIGH SCORE 16The HIGH SCORE is shown on all display }s until you turn off the computer. 106031PLAYING MOON MARAUDER 30 1370OBJECTIVE 16Once you've started the }game (either by pressing the START key or the red button on Joystick 1), the screen will change to the "READY" display and th }en to the "ACTION" display (these displays are discussed below).Your goal is to destroy as many enemy surface installations } as possible without losing all of your fighters. You're especially interested in destroying the fuel towers since all the fu }el in the towers will be deposited in your fuel tank. You destroy the targets with your photons, which are controlled by the }red joystick button. You may guide the path of a photon with your joystick once it's fired, but you may not fire more than on }e photon at a time.You must also destroy the enemy fighters and guided missiles before they destroy you. Also, you must con }trol the altitude of your fighter so that you don't crash into the mountain ranges or surface targets. 13THE "READY" DISPL }AY 16The READY display appears at the start of each level of play and each time you lose a fighter. The READY display incl }udes the following: 19(1) The score area - this section is shown at the top of all displays. It includes: 22* The player }'s score* The high score for the current play session* The number of tallies (targets destroyed)* The latitude and longitu }de (position) of yourfighter 24 19(2) Your fighter - it's included in this display to help you orient yourself for the up }coming battle.(3) Number of fighters remaining - located in the lower left-hand corner, a ship is removed each time the RE }ADY display appears, so you always know how many you have left (does not include the current fighter). You begin the game wit }h four fighters. For each 10,000 points you score, you receive another fighter. The maximum number of fighters is five.(4) } The fuel gauge - located at the bottom of the display, this indicator moves from right (full) to left (empty). If you're run }ning low on fuel, get as much altitude as possible because your ship will glide for a few seconds after your fuel is depleted }. If you can locate and destroy a fuel tower during the glide time you won't crash and lose a fighter.(5) The altimeter - }located in the lower right-hand corner, this indicator shows the altitude of your ship. At the beginning of each round, your }ship is at 50% altitude. When you drop below 50% altitude, the gauge turns yellow. Also, to help you maneuver your ship, note } the movement of your fighter's shadow. When you are flying at minimum altitude, the yellow on the gauge disappears (so does }the shadow beneath you) and the gauge is dark blue. This is the only time you can crash into mountain ranges and surface targ }ets. When you reach maximum altitude, the gauge disappears (it's all light blue) and your shadow doesn't move any further awa }y from you. At this altitude you can't destroy the surface targets because you're out of target range. 16The READY display } remains on the screen for three seconds. 13THE "ACTION" DISPLAY 16All the items on the READY display above are part of }the ACTION display, but now you're ship is positioned over the surface of the moon. At first, you may not see the enemy surfa }ce installations because the moon is large and the enemy is clever (he randomly scatters his forces so that he is less vulner }able to attack).You won't expend any energy until you move the joystick. If you don't move, you aren't attacked, you can't }fire, and you don't lose any fuel until you are ready to go ahead with your mission. This allows you to pause between rounds }without using the SPACE BAR.Once you begin to move, you have to know what you're shooting at. Table 1 describes each target } and explains where each is vulnerable. Most surface targets are worth ten times as many points if they're destroyed on the h }orizon. The only exceptions are the space ports which were built below the surface of the moon and therefore can't be seen fr }om a distance. 1370----------------------------------------------------------COMMUNICATION STATIONS------------------ }----A Communication Station looks like a satellite dish. It is vulnerable no matter where it is hit. A Communication Station } is worth 10 points when destroyed (100 points if destroyed on the horizon).SPACE PORT----------A Space Port consists of }a pair of star cruisers and a Terminal Building. Your photon must hit one of the two star cruisers parked at the Space Port t }o score 20 points. Since Space Ports are below ground, you cannot destroy them on the horizon.LASER CANNON------------The } Laser Cannon looks like a large military gun. Your photon must hit the energy generator (the base) or the tip of the cannon }in order to destroy it. The cannons were designed to shoot at the earth and will not destroy you. Destroying a Laser Cannon w }ill earn 30 points (300 points if destroyed on the horizon). MUNNITIONS FACTORY------------------A munnitions factory can } be identified by the smoke stack and flag which protrude from the top of the building. These targets must be hit either in t }he main building or at the top of the smoke stack (which will ignite the exhaust gas from the plant). A munnitions factory is } worth 40 points (400 if destroyed on the horizon).SURFACE TO AIR MISSILES-----------------------A Surface to Air Missile } looks like a rocket ship ready to launch (which it is). It is vulnerable no matter where it is hit. When your ship is flying } quickly, you only have a 90% chance of destroying the missile if you aim for the narrow payload section of the rocket.FUEL } TOWER----------The Fuel Tower consists of a pair of yellow tanks suspended above the ground by two blue legs. The Fuel Tow }ers MUST be destroyed to replenish your fuel. They contain less fuel as the game progresses but since there usually are more }of them, there should be an adequate supply of fuel. The Fuel Towers must be hit in one of the two tank sections to earn 60 p }oints (600 points if destroyed on the horizon).GUIDED MISSILES---------------The Guided Missiles are actually in-flight S }urface to Air Missiles. They will attack more quickly if you try to fly away from them. Destroying a Guided Missile will earn } you 500 points.ENEMY FIGHTERS--------------The next four enemy vessels are all referred to as enemy fighters in the text } portion of the users manual. All four ships will attempt to destroy you with their photons. These ships also use elusive tac }tics when they are attacked. Destroying an enemy fighter will earn you 1000 points. 16SPACE PROBE-----------The Space Pro }be looks like a flying saucer with a pair of antenna.HOVER CRAFT-----------The Hover Craft looks like a ball with a pair }of wings.WARRIOR SHIP------------The Warrior Ship looks like an oval flying saucer.BATTLE STAR-----------The Battle S }tar looks like a Warrior Ship except that it has two appendages protruding from the top of the vessel. 10MOUNTAIN RANGES-- }-------------Mountain Ranges consist of two or more yellow wavy lines. On the horizon they can be more easily identified as }mountains. The Mountain Ranges cannot be destroyed. If you are flying at minimum altitude (no shadow, no gauge) you may crash } into them and lose your ship.DEBRIS------The Debris looks like a blue hole (shaped like a star) in the surface of the mo !}on. The Debris replaces the explosions caused by your photons after the fire burns out. You c $}an fly in any direction except backwards (toward the bottom of the screen). When you move your joystick towards you, the ship %} gains altitude. When you move your joystick away from you, your ship loses altitude (dives). When you move the joystick left &} or right your ship remains at a constant altitude. However, when you move diagonally, you change altitude again. Also, when '}you release your joystick, your ship coasts to minimum speed. To speed up, you must continue to hold your joystick in the dir (}ection you want to go.Press the red joystick button to fire your photons. You may only fire one photon at a time. When a ph )}oton is heading for a target, you may guide it for a direct hit; however, you may miss your target if you try to maneuver you *}r ship too quickly (after firing) and send the photon off course. 13GUIDED MISSILES 16The guided missiles always approa +}ch you horizontally from the left or right. They pursue you more rapidly if you try to fly away from them. 13ENEMY FIGHTER ,}S 16The enemy fighters approach you from all directions. They fire their photons to try and destroy your fighter. They als -}o pursue you more rapidly if you try to fly away from them. 13LATITUDE AND LONGITUDE 16Located in the upper right-hand .}corner of the display, these indicators show the coordinates (position) of your fighter relative to the moon's surface. They' /}re useful when you're searching for one of the last targets of a particular game level. Also, you may use the earth as a refe 0}rence point since it is positioned at the center of the horizon. 13SCORING 16The current player's score and the high sc 1}ore appear in the upper left-hand corner of all displays. This saves time in se :}eking out your targets.(2) Don't be too concerned with destroying the targets on the horizon. You'll destroy them occasion ;}ally anyway without necessarily aiming for them.(3) Don't destroy the fuel towers too quickly. If you continue to destroy <}fuel towers when your tank is already full, you gain bonus points but you may run out of fuel before you've completed the lev =}el.(4) Don't engage the enemy fighters or guided missiles in mountainous regions since your photons cannot penetrate them. >} When an enemy ship approaches, pilot your fighter to an open area and then destroy the oncoming enemy craft.(5) Try not t ?}o fly away from enemy ships since they approach more quickly when your back is turned. The only exception is when a mountain @}range is between you and your target. In this case, fly away from the enemy ship until it crosses over the mountain range. Th A}en turn and destroy it with your photons.(6) When engaging in battle with enemy fighters, it's better to increase your alt B}itude so that you don't crash unintentionally (sometimes you're so taken up with destroying a fighter that you don't realize C}that you're diving your ship right into a mountain range).(7) When searching for targets, it is better to fly diagonally.
