Hover Strike - REVIEW

This game reminds me of an old, old arcade game made by Atari entitled BattleZone. Of course, game technology has advanced in those 10+ years.

As with most 'mission-oriented' games, you choose a mission from the selection screen, and are given a brief objective for that mission. Then you're tossed in and all hell breaks loose.

Hover Strike is indeed an interesting and entertaining game to play. You 'float' over different types of terrain, blasting at different targets in order to reach your objective. Your arsenal isn't something to sneeze at either: You get a blaster, missles, guided-missles(these are fun), mortars, and flares(for night missions). During gameplay, you must make sure your shield and energy levels do not deplete and if they do get low, there are powerups scattered throughout the planet. Weapon powerups are also available.

Each enemy has their own personality if you will, and as you progress through the game, you're introduced to even more menacing attackers. This is especially true during Night missions, where your field of vision is severely restricted.

A two-player session is most definitely a treat! One player assumes navigational control of the tank, while the other is in charge of weapons. Communication between both players is essential in order to survive the harder levels.

Hover Strike has great graphics and animation, Playability and game control is above average. Music on the other hand leaves room for improvement. Sound effects are present and add to the realism of the game. Overall, HS is a decent game to play solo, but, when combined with another person, can become an enjoyable all-nighter marathon.
