Battlemorph - REVIEW

A sequel to the Jaguar's original 'pack-in' game - Cybermorph. Who said sequels weren't as good (or better!) than the original?

With its awesome opening movie to the introduction of new objectives, new aliens, spectacular animation - especially underwater, Battlemorph really showcases the Jaguar much more than Cybermorph ever did.

Your missions are more than just roaming around the planets picking up pods. These are actually concrete missions which involve taking out power plants, radars and the like. One of the neatest aspects of Battlemorph is the ability to dive underwater and do some searching. The effects here are simply outstanding, almost to the point where you feel compelled to check your TV monitor for water spots.

Another nice touch is the different music that's associated with missions including flying above or below ground, as well as underwater. These tracks fit perfectly.

An unusual twist is the ability to fly through tunnels whether over land or hidden underneath rivers. All these new additions really make the game shine. New obstacles and aliens also inhabit the game adding more to the playability that's already present.

However, there are a few snags, although these are a matter of perspective. For one, when one collects the rapid-fire power up, the speed wasn't what I expected - it's just a tad too slow. Secondly, although the music is beautifully done, it does get repetitive especially during a long game session - almost to the point of hindering game play.

The final but most annoying snag occurs when your game basically halts cold due to the fact that it can't read your CD. The game responds that it's unable to read the disc and suggests you clean it. My understanding is that this is a bug and that by setting MOVIES to OFF, should resolve the problem. Incidentally, this problem occurs after the second/third set of planets.
